That blue dot means one of my patients has tested positive for Parvo, fortunately it has had some recent vaccines.

When I worked emergency down near Seattle I had a dog test positive for Parvo. They chose to euthanize. If that was not hard enough a few days later the same person brought in a full litter of puppies for the same clinical signs. They were all euthanized. The next week. Two more dogs, and two more litters. All euthanized. Turns out it was a back yard breeder. 30+ dogs dead, because they didn't want to pay for a vaccine, or stupidly thought that vaccines don't work.

Just vaccinate your dogs people

Police seeking dash cam in fatal dog incident

24-9578

North Vancouver RCMP are seeking dash cam and witnesses in a fatal collision involving a commercial vehicle and a dog.

On May 17th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. North Vancouver RCMP received a report of a dog that was run over by a commercial vehicle at the intersection of West 3rd Street and Forbes Avenue in North Vancouver. A man and their leashed dog were waiting to cross Forbes Ave. on the south side of West 3rd St. when a commercial vehicle making a turn jumped the edge of the side walk and ran over the dog. Sadly, the dog named Sweety did not survive its injuries.

The commercial vehicle failed to stop after the collision and continued south on Forbes Ave. The commercial vehicle is described as a “dump truck” style vehicle that had two dump beds as a trailer attachment.

“The owners of Sweety are devastated by the loss of their pet,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP. “Our investigation is ongoing and it is too early to tell if the driver intentionally fled the scene or if they had any knowledge of the collision at the time of incident.”

“If you were driving or walking near West 3rd Street and Forbes Avenue on May 17th, between 10:50 a.m. and 10:55 a.m. and saw the collision, then please call us at 604-985-1311 and quote file #24-9578,” said Sahak. “Police are also asking anyone with dash cam or surveillance video to come forward. Your dash cam may have captured something. Please check.”

If you clamp your dog's mouth shut when they mouth or "tap" them on the muzzle when they bark, or use your hands in any way to stop behavior, how is your dog supposed to know the next time you reach to pet them that you are just reaching to pet them and not to "tap" their muzzle?

Using these physical methods in training is one of the quickest way to teach your dog that people reaching towards them is something to avoid and they should cower or run away or that they should defend themselves against people by growling, snapping or biting, to prevent the person from touching them.

It is hot! Our officers are proactively monitoring parking lots in the Langley area. We’ve already found two dogs locked in cars where the temperatures inside were dangerously high. This can quickly become a life threatening situation.

Please leave your dogs at home or bring them into the store with you if you’re permitted.

If you see a dog locked in a car please contact us at 604.857.5055

We are getting close to running out of our shelter supply and food bank supply of food. We are hoping our community can help by donating dog/cat dry and wet food. Canadian Naturals brand, Royal Canin baby cat/kitten is extra in need. However, all brands welcome as it will fill an animal in needs belly! The pups and cats thank you!!!!

As any pro pet sitter or dog walker will tell you, running a pet-care business is NO JOKE!

Here at PSI, we always say that pet sitting isn’t for the faint of heart🖤—and on a day that typically focuses on jokes, we want to stop and thank professional pet sitters and dog walkers for the serious work they do!

⭐For any who have ever wondered, “Is pet sitting (or dog walking) a real job?” The answer is ABSOLUTELY.✔

👉Professional pet sitters and dog walkers are small-business owners—vital contributors to their communities and local economy.

👉They have a business license (where required), pay taxes, are insured, bonded, and trained in pet care and pet first aid.

👉They work year-round to ensure pet parents can have the peace of mind offered by quality, reliable pet care when long work hours or travel keep them from their beloved pets.

⭐Being a professional pet-sitting or dog-walking business owner is more than dog walks and cat cuddles.

👉Ask any professional pet sitter who has missed holidays with their families, extended pet-sitting visits to ensure an ailing pet was comforted or felt the loss of a client’s pet passing.

👉Or better yet, ask one of the hundreds of thousands of pet parents who benefit from the services of professional pet sitters and dog walkers every year.

👉Ask the pet owner who was alerted by his professional pet sitter that his dog’s behavior was unusual and recommended an emergency vet visit—saving the dog from dying from canine bloat.

👉Ask the pet parent who was able to call her pet sitter at 2 a.m. when she learns that her mother—on the other side of the country—has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition and is able to secure pet care as she rushes to the airport.

👉Ask the family whose professional pet sitter has graciously agreed to sit with them as their 15-year-old cat with late-stage chronic renal failure has to be euthanized.

Spend a day with a pro pet sitter or dog walker and you’ll know what those of us at PSI know without question:

♥Pet sitting is no joke! It’s a career…a lifestyle…a passion.♥

THANK YOU to the pet sitters and dog walkers making the world a better place for pets and their people!
