Thank you Jared for the nutriberries!! Always a hit with the birds.

I really need toys and perches (not the dowel type) rope or otherwise. I'm okay for food right now. As I posted before I can take in birds at my spacious motel room but only 2 or 3 at a time and I will be adopting them out from here. Located in Trenton, Ont.

It's been a long time coming but I'm finally able to talk about it. Flying Hope Companion Bird Rescue had a devastating fire June 8th. I lost all 15 of my birds and my dog, Hayden. I want to thank everybody for their prayers, cards, donations and more. I really want to thank everyone that donated to my GoFundMe. It's been a huge help. I also want to thank Sonyia and Nathan for taking over the page while I was in the hospital.
We will be reopening after the house is rebuilt. In the meantime the owner of the motel we are staying at has allowed me to take in 2 or 3 birds at a time for those who have birds that need rehoming. You can DM me here or call me at 613-813-4692. Thank you everybirdie.

Hello peeps.
Because of the fire we are staying at a motel in Trenton. The owner is allowing me to take in 2 or 3 birds if needed. It's a large motel room, more like an apartment, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a full kitchen so there is room. You can contact me by dm here on this page or call me at 613-813-4692 if you have a bird to rehome. Donna

Hi everyone,

I'm happy to see all of the support.

Some people have asked about alternatives to donating through Go Fund Me, their concern being that Go Fund Me takes a cut of the donations. This is true, Go Fund Me takes about 3% of the donation. Currently the only alternative is to write a cheque out to Rick Short. We may have other alternatives in the coming week if you do not wish to donate through Go Fund Me.

Please keep in mind that the easiest and safest way to donate is through Go Fund Me. It is not advised that you send any donations through sources that have not been posted by Flying Hope on this page.

Anything you'd like to send to Rick and Donna via mail can be sent to:

Thank you.

Hi everyone, Sonyia here again. We have been notified of a couple scam Go Fund Me pages going around - they have been reported and disabled. The Go Fund Me page that is listed here on our page has been verified, it is set up by Donna's family.

Nathan & I we want to Thank most of you for the good wishes & prayers. To the trolls out there who have been saying terrible things, your posts have been removed, and you will be banned from the page if you continue. JUST BE NICE, this is not the place

Update

Donna is going to be okay, but she is still recovering in the hospital. Unfortunately, all of the birds, and her dog Hayden have passed. Donna's family have created a Go Fund Me which includes some more information about the event. I am sure that any support you can give, be it financial or emotional will be appreciated.

Anybody that knows Donna will know how much the birds meant to her. Her most recent messages on the page involve a conversation with someone about rescuing animals. She said "I love what I do. My birds mean the world to me." and in a successive message "Yes, it's rewarding, but there's sad moments too."

Thank you for your support.

Dear family, friends, and Flying Hope Bird Rescue supporters, We are reaching out… Melanie Fiscaletti needs your support for Donna & Rick - Fire Relief Fund

This handsome dude is Eddie,EDDIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!! and he is STILL looking for a new place to roost. He is a Linnie, and is 7yrs old. He is a DNA'ed male. He was surrendered due to no fault of his own.
Eddie has mildly elevated liver levels. He is been to the vet, and they feel no intervention is needed. This is common with Linnies. He does however need monthly beak & nail trims. And needs to stay on a diet of pellets.
Eddie is a very social guy, and enjoys his people very much. He needs a home where he will get lots of attention, and lots of out of cage time. He will step up and cuddle, but doesn't like to be touched or stroked. He needs someone with bird experience, who can understand his cues.
Eddie comes with his cage, toys and food.
If you think you can give him a new home, please private message us - don't post here - we don't want to miss you

ADOPTED This gal is Jarvis, and she is looking for a new place to roost. She is a female lutino cockatiel, and she is around 5-7 years old. She was surrendered due to no fault of her own.
She is nervous, but is starting to give us her beautiful whistles. And when we are cleaning her cage, she is trying to jump on our arms. With some love & patience, she will be an amazing bird. She comes with cage & toys.
If you think you have a home for her, please private message us - don't post here - we don't want to miss you.

Check your bird's feet!
Parrots have small rounded raised areas of the skin on the feet called papillae.
If parrots have incorrect perches or are lacking vitamins in their diet, then the papillae can become flattened and disappear. They can also develop very painful sores that can become ulcerated.
We recommend a balanced diet with adequate vitamin levels along with multiple natural perches in their cage.

Toys and foraging items are not just fun and games. They are employment opportunities. Choosing the right toys for your parrot isn't difficult. There's a handful of considerations to put to the task. Camelot macaws Q: I make a lot of toys for Puffin, my african grey, by myself. Her favorite ones are the hanging toys that I string up with rope, but now she bites through the rope and they end up on the bottom of the cage and get “messy”, if you know what I mean. I want to use chain so she can....

DID YOU KNOW?
The saliva of mammals such as cats, dogs and even humans is dangerous to our feathered companions🤤⚠️
Our saliva, as well as the saliva of other mammals, contains what is known as ‘gram-negative bacteria’. Gram-negative bacteria is a specific type of bacteria that can cause infections throughout the body. E.coli is an example of a ‘gram-negative bacteria’. This type of bacteria can be present in our bodies and in normal amounts is harmless. Our bodies are well equipped to fight and protect against the infections caused by this type of bacteria. Parrots on the other hand do not have any gram-negative bacteria present in their systems and are not able to fight them off. 🤒
Care must be taken to avoid spreading potentially harmful bacteria to your parrot whether that is allowing them to share your utensils or trying to re-enact that scene from Lady and the Tramp. We also advise that other pets are never left unsupervised with a parrot because of the various risks involved including the spread of gram-negative bacteria that are present on their bodies and in their saliva.
Leave it to the parrots! 🦜😍

'ADOPTION PENDING This handsome dude is Cosmo, he is a 20 year old Goffins Cockatoo. He was adopted from Flying Hope in the early Fall to a wonderful couple. Over the past few months, he is showing his displeasure to his Mom who loves him dearly. He loves his Dad. He is also not enjoying the grand kids. So his parents have made the very difficult decision to find him another home who will be better for him. As we said, he LOVES men, and does not love women or children.
Cosmo loves to dance, and sings his own version on songs. He loves to cuddle with his Dad. He is not very good with smaller birds. He isn't very destructive if given lots of toys. He comes with his cage, but could use an upgrade to a bigger one.

Cosmo IS NOT at Flying Hope, he is in HAMILTON. We are helping find him a new home If you think you have the home that better suits his personality, please private message is - don't post here.
