It's finally official 😍 Luxlight's first litter!
Co-bred with Malka Australian Shepherds

Miso will be bred to Helios on her next heat cycle for late fall/early winter puppies!

Miso is red factored so this will be a possible all colour litter.
I expect these puppies to be medium-high drive with the ability to do it all.
This cross is combining some amazing pedigrees - I'm very excited to see what they produce 🙂

Some info about Miso and Helios:

Miso is a high drive, fast, smart and spunky girl. She LOVES to work and it's where she finds joy in life. She is very much reserved with strangers as the breed should be, but is easily able to be handled for things like the vet, curbside health testing clinics, measuring at agility etc. and competes at large events with no issues. She has been shown a handful of times and easily stands for exam. I am hoping to get her back in the ring.
She likes other dogs and adapts her play style well to new dogs.
She has no sound sensitivities or reactivity, though as with any herding breed she needed plenty of socialization and exposure to be the well rounded dog she is today.
She is opinionated and pushy - so clear boundaries and consistent criteria are necessary for her to thrive. Overall she's a sweet girl with a great temperament. She has her first leg toward her rally excellent (RE) title on her first time in, and has her open scent detection title (SDO) which she earned easily on her first try. She also has an excellent interior component, as well as her sdda scent detection advanced special title (SD-A-SP) which means she earned all three components in the same day. She loves sprinter and earned her novice sprinter (NS) title in just 3 runs. She's training heavily in agility, and also trains in flyball. She's tried dock diving, and is shaping up to be just as versatile as her big sister and our kennel namesake, Lux, and has her versatility novice (VN) title as well 💜 I have international agility goals with her and I'm really excited for our future!

Helios is a gorgeous, good natured boy with plenty of intelligence. He is CKC major pointed and is near to finishing his championship.
He has excellent work ethic and great instinct on stock. He'll be going off for herding training soon and will be trialing next year!
He's got his rally novice (RN) title as well as his scent detection open (SDO) title. He's SPEEDY and also has his sprinter (S) title.
He came to stay with me this past week while Kaitlin was away in BC and took it all in stride and integrated into my pack seamlessly. He gets along with other intact males, baby puppies, people.. is super sweet and loves a good butt scratch. His pedigree boasts some great dogs with lovely longevity in the lines. Overall a sweet, talented boy with a bright future!

A big piece of me died with Lux. I didn't know if I'd ever want to do dogsports like agility or rally again.. A lot of the time I still have to find the strength within me to keep pushing forward and even now, many times I want to quit.
Everything we now do is a "first without Lux".

But.. seeing how much of herself Miso gives me, and the sheer joy she radiates when she's running with me, makes it a little easier 💜

She made me very proud last weekend by earning her first two Qs at the FAST (Fundy Agility & Sports Team) AAC trial! Starters Gamble and Starters Snooker 🥰

Super proud of this smart girl! She lives to work. I love her drive 💜 She got slightly distracted a few times but came right back and was focused and ready to go again! Really happy with her since she isn't even two until August 21st!

Miso earned her SDO (Scent Detection Open) title today at the River Valley Obedience & Field Trial Club CKC Scent Detection trial!

That means she found the 2 hides (pine and/or wintergreen) in her containers, interior room and exterior searches within the time limit (2 minutes for containers, 3 minutes for interior room and 4 minutes for exterior) and successfully indicated to me their locations so I could call alert!!

Super proud of this girl! She's going places 🥰
Thank you to the club and to judge Doug Teeft for a fun morning! Tomorrow she tries out excellent for the first time!

Since posting about her first CKC title, Miso has racked up even more! She's also earned her RN (Rally Novice), NS (Novice Sprinter) and her VN (Versatility Novice - Pending CKC approval)! She also earned her first 2 legs toward her rally advanced title 🙂

In SDDA she also earned her SD-A-SP (Scent Detection Advanced - Special, meaning she earned all 3 components at the same trial!)

She's tried dock diving and shows promise there as well as agility of course, but that will be a work in progress for awhile 🙂
She'll also be exposed to sheep in the next year.

She seems to be turning out to be a very versatile girl like her big sister 💜

This is bittersweet 🥲
After going back and forth I finally decided to change to Luxlight when I sent in my Reserved Kennel Name Application to the Canadian Kennel Club, and today it was approved 💜

Unfortunately I changed my page name back in April and now I have to wait until June 17th to change it again 🤪 So for now it still says AeriaLux

Miso earned her first title this past weekend - her CKC Scent Detection Novice title! She did containers in 26 seconds, interior in 14 seconds and exterior in 15 seconds! Super proud of this little worker and how focused she was.

In scent detection, the dog must locate a drop of odour (for novice in ckc it's one hide of oil of wintergreen) within a given time limit and I have to call alert when I believe she's found it!

For containers, it's 10 identical boxes set out in 2 rows of 5, and one container has the drop of odour inside. 2 minute time limit!

For interior, it's a room search, minimum 100 to a maximum of 200 square feet for novice. The odour is hidden on, under, or in an object within the room, and you have 3 minutes for the dog to search and the handler to call alert!

Exterior is an outdoor search, minimum 200 to a maximum of 400 square feet for novice. The odour is hidden somewhere within the outdoor search area, which can be left natural or have items put out to search! 4 minutes.

I love scent! It's such a fun sport. She loves it too! It gets even more fun and challenging as you move up the levels. The search areas get bigger, the hide spots get harder and other odours and also distractors (toys and/or food!) come into play!

Our next scent trial is a different venue (SDDA versus CKC) May 10-12!

At Luxlight Australian Shepherds, the goal is to produce happy, healthy, sound and drivey Australian Shepherds that can excel at anything they try, while also being great members of the family and the community.

- Aussie DNA Panel

- Advanced Cardiac via Echo (at 2, 4, 7)
- Thyroid (at 2, 4 and 6)

Agility is my focus and passion, and I compete heavily with my dogs. Miso is just starting out, and Lux had some great accomplishments in her too-short career, including making it to finals at the 2023 UKI Canadian Open National Championships and placing 5th overall in the 16" special division.

Besides agility, I dabble in just about every sport out there. We do conformation, and I have trialed quite heavily in Rally Obedience (my first Aussie, Lux, pictured below was #2 Aussie in Canada for 2020, 2021 and 2022 and #7 herding, #9 all breed in 2022) as well as Scent Detection and Frisbee. We've tried Tracking, Sprinter/Chase Ability, Rat Sports, Obedience, Herding, Flyball, Dock Diving, Canicross/Bikejoring, Disc Freestyle.. You name it and we've probably tried it!
