Andrew and Sam have done amazing work to make our second entrance/exit come to reality! We are also extremely grateful to Marion Rigby who donated the funds for our lovely gate. It is a beautiful addition that will help connect the St. Mary's Community Garden and the Food Forest.

Is it a chicken coop? A bat house? Nope, this is a solar dehydrator! These dehydrators are perfect for the summer time as it harnesses all the sun and heat into an efficient tool. Make tea, spices, dried fruits and mushrooms there's lots of room to experiment!
The dehydrator will be here all summer for anyone wanting to use it. It's important to monitor the weather to make sure it wont rain for a few days as the humidity can affect your goods. Goods can take a couple days to a week depending on outdoor conditions so make sure to come over and check on your things frequently.

Our summer student Kayla has been working hard to bring our very own shirts to life and they are finally here! The sale/commission of these shirts are to directly support the Food Forest and its continued service to the community.

You can buy a premade shirt (20$) or bring your own to be printed (10$). You can choose between white ink or black ink depending on the colour of your shirt.

Let us know what size you need if buying a premade shirt and we can help you find the right one (Shirt colours vary!).

Look who's arrived in the Food Forest!

We have Wine Cap mushrooms popping up in our mulch after introducing them last year. They are versatile in the kitchen and high in protein! Wine Caps are also great companions to crops since they enrich the soil around them. (Be sure to use caution and carefully identify/research mushrooms you encounter as some have look-alikes).

Next, we have mint. Mint is used widely here in our herbaceous layer as it serves as pest repellent for our fruit trees and out competes tall grasses. In the forest we have Peppermint, Spearmint and Apple mint that are perfect for tea.

The first plant that produces fruit here in the Food Forest is the Haskap. Beginning in June, these antioxidant/vitamin A rich berries make their appearance. They have a taste similar to a cross between raspberries and blueberries.

Our plant beds have also started flooding with fragrant wild strawberries! They’re perfect for a sweet little snack.
