Tiny's Medical Fund

Tiny's Medical Fund Tiny's mission is to spread awareness about the dangers of pet obesity and how we can help our pets but then the box meowed.
(26)

Tiny first arrived at the FSPCA tapped up in a cardboard box and weighing 30.2lbs. Over the past year he has lost half his body weight and gained back his health and a loving new home. Tiny works to spread awareness about the dangers of pet obesity, the importance of proper nutrition and exercise for all pets and he is raising funds to 'pay it forward' and help other special needs pets at the FSPC

A! You can support Tiny's Weight Loss Challenge Medical Fund for Special Needs Animals at the FSPCA by purchasing one of Tiny's Ties or some of his other 'swag' on his online Etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TinysTies
You can also make a donation to Tiny's fund by calling the Fredericton SPCA (506-459-1555)

Tiny came to the Fredericton SPCA Animal Shelter on December 30th 2011. He was taped up in a cardboard box with another much smaller cat, Rapunzel, and left in the shelter lobby. At first we thought the box was full of donations of computer paper, cat treats, etc. We were shocked to see what was inside; 2 cats Tiny and Rapunzel. During his initial health check Tiny weighed in at 30.2 lbs, the largest cat we have ever seen! Concerned about his health we are putting Tiny on a diet and are hoping to inspire others. Your donations to Tiny's Weight Loss Challenge will go to a special medical fund to help special needs animals like Tiny at the Fredericton SPCA. Tiny's special canned diet food is estimated to cost $4 - $5 a day, as well he will need regular vet check-ups and could require extensive testing. Already Tiny's Fund has helped 2 senior female dogs Rita and Kya who needed spay surgeries that because of their age are more extensive and expensive surgeries, they also required some mammary gland tumor removal and post-op care at a cost of roughly $1,200 each. Your support helped us provide these amazing animals the best medical care and a second chance at the good life! Tiny's goal is to continue to raise funds and to pay if forward to other special needs animals at the FSPCA who haven't received the media attention that Tiny has! For information about how to donate please contact the Fredericton SPCA (506-459-1555) or consider purchasing something from Tiny's online store: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TinysTies

It was 10 years ago yesterday that Tiny came into our lives and changed the world for so many animals with Team Tiny making and selling ties, mug rugs, kick sticks and so much more. And all the proceeds going to help animals who needed that extra care. Tiny and adopted Mom Nancy helped Tiny lose his weight and he led a spoiled life filled up with love until he passed. Time flies and we all miss him so much.

LeeAnn Haggerty was there when he arrived and started this campaign of love and hope…here are her words from that fateful day:

Today someone walked into the shelter and dumped a box all duct tapped up in the lobby and took off. The box was meowing and upon opening there were 2 cats inside. One of the cats was a huge boy weighing 30.2 lbs! I have never seen a bigger cat in my life, poor guy can hardly walk and certainly can't groom himself. The other cat was stuck under the bigger one... Thinking of that big boy stuck in a dog crate right now. At least they were dumped inside the shelter and not on the side of a road somewhere... at least they are warm and will get the care they need now...

It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Max the cat from Shur-Gain Feeds ‘n Needs Fredericton store. He was always a staunch advocate of Tiny’ Ties and a personal greeter at the store for all our events there. He was 23 years young. He will be missed by so many people especially the staff. Thank you Max for gracing our hearts with love and meows. Tiny is waiting for you across the Rainbow bridge. ❤️❤️

Shadow is a recipient of Tiny’s Medical fund donations.

Not sure what I did to end up terrified, exhausted and in the middle of Woodstock Road. However, this is where a lovely good Samaritan found me on July 25, 2020. I was terrified. The kind lady took to me to the Fredericton SPCA to ensure I would get the much needed care I needed.

You see I only weighed 21 pounds and I should be around 50 pounds they said, so they named me Shadow because I am only a shadow of myself. The animal care team promised they would take good care of me. I was pretty thirsty so they gave me some water and food. It tasted so good. I am not sure when I had my last bit of food - it had been awhile.

They took me to see a dog doctor called a Veterinarian and was told that they were going to check me out and see if I needed any medication to get me healthy again. They tested my blood, checked me all over for fleas and worms and were really concerned about how skinny I was so they gave me some IV fluids which made me feel a lot better. I also have issues with my front feet and my leg muscles and will need extra care getting them strong again. They also said that I was pretty young, just around 10 months old, not even a year old yet.

I don’t know what I did for my previous owners to treat me this way, as I just wanted to play and give them lots of love. I didn’t know any different as I am just still a puppy. For whatever reason they didn’t feed me very much and I somehow ended up in the middle of the road exhausted and terrified.

I am now in a FSPCA foster home with a couple of other dogs learning how to be a dog, getting lots of love, food, playtime but most of all healthy again. I am going to need a lot of medical care so follow my journey and if you want to help out with my care you can donate to Tiny’s Medical Fund which is helping me get better, by sending an e-transfer to [email protected] and put in the message box “Shadow”, or you can go to our website and donate through Canadahelps or you can call us at 459-1555 and make a donation to me over the phone or in person.

So many people helped me get to a safe place and want to take care of me, but it is going to be a long journey but that is okay because I am now told all the time that I am a good dog and that makes my tail wag.

Team Tiny didn’t make it to the Brookside Spring Craft Show this year. So you will have to wait to pick up your “delicious” knitted catnip mice at the Cat Show, June 15. We will post details closer to the Event.
