🌡️🐾 **Mild Weather = Ticks Are Active!** 🐾🌡️

As temperatures rise, so do the ticks! These little pests are already out and looking for their next blood meal. 🦠🚨

Before starting tick prevention, it’s best to have a **4Dx test** to check for tick-borne diseases like Lyme. Protect your pet and give yourself peace of mind!

A 4Dx test is a quick blood test that screens for serious, tick-borne diseases and heartworm before starting prevention. Here’s why it’s essential:

🦠 Detects Hidden Infections – Dogs can carry diseases like Lyme, Anaplasmosis, and Ehrlichiosis without obvious symptoms. Early detection helps with timely treatment.

💓 Checks for Heartworm – Prevention is key, but starting it without testing first can be dangerous if a dog is already infected.

✅ Ensures Safe Prevention – Some tick and heartworm preventatives kill parasites inside the body, so knowing your pet’s status ensures safe and effective treatment.

📞 Call us at **705-692-4446** to book your pet’s 4Dx test and get them started on prevention!

**St. Patrick’s Day Pet Cautions 🍀🐶🐱**

St. Paddy’s celebrations can pose hidden dangers for pets. Keep an eye out for these common holiday hazards:

☘️ **Alcohol Toxicity**
🐾 Pets may lap up unattended beer, cocktails, or other alcoholic drinks.
⚠️ Symptoms: Ataxia (wobbliness), depression, vomiting, tremors, seizures, coma.
🚨 Effects appear quickly (within 30 minutes), and inducing vomiting is usually not recommended in symptomatic pets.

☘️ **Shamrock Toxicity**
🌿 Many “shamrocks” are Oxalis spp., containing soluble oxalates that can lower calcium levels.
⚠️ Symptoms: Vomiting, weakness, panting, tremors, seizures (rare in pets).
🔍 Small ingestions are usually mild, but large amounts may require veterinary care.

**🐾 Keep drinks out of reach & avoid plant nibbling! If concerned, contact your vet or poison control.** 🍀💚

🚨 New Addition to Our Core Vaccine Bundle: Lepto Protection! 🚨

We’re updating our core vaccine bundle to include the Leptospirosis (Lepto) vaccine—because keeping your pets (and you!) safe is our top priority! 🐶💉

What is Lepto?
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that affects both dogs and humans. It spreads through contaminated water, soil, and the urine of infected wildlife (like raccoons, skunks, and rodents). Once infected, dogs can suffer from kidney and liver failure, and, in severe cases, it can be fatal.

Why is Lepto an Emerging Threat in Northern Ontario?
🌧️ Wet conditions create the perfect environment for the bacteria to thrive.
🌲 Wildlife exposure is increasing as urban areas expand into natural habitats.
🚶‍♂️ More outdoor adventures mean a higher risk for dogs exploring lakes, trails, and even backyards.

Can Humans Get Lepto?
Yes! Lepto is zoonotic, meaning it can spread from dogs to humans. People can get infected through contact with contaminated urine, making vaccination essential for your pet's health—and yours!

By adding Lepto to our core vaccines, we’re making it easier and more affordable to protect your pet from this rising threat. ✅

📅 Is your pet due for vaccines? Call us to book an appointment and keep them protected! 🩺🐕
