Great news from Struck Apparel!

Great news from Struck Apparel!

You may have noticed in the last few months that our packaging has a new look ! It’s so easy to get lost in amazing packaging, tags, and branding, but we forget about the impact that it has on our planet. We’re trying to minimize our footprint, so we’ve switched over to these 100% biodegradable mailers (they’re made out of corn… so cool!). They fully degrade in 6 months, so no gross plastic in our landfills!

We also have eliminated all but our main tag to help reduce unnecessary waste. Our breeches no longer come in plastic packaging, and our paper products are all 100% post consumer recycled paper. Oh, and our stickers use soy based ink too!

It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. Every little bit helps, and we’re doing our best to make awesome pants, while still trying to preserve our beautiful planet!

An interesting read. Particularly this from Dr. Sue Dyson: The shift in training styles over the years seems to be making the condition more common than it was 30 years ago. “Horses are being worked in a different way today.. Many more horses are being used for single disciplines. Many are working in arenas and not in a variety of situations. These contribute to wear and tear on the body."

Great motivation to get outside and out of the arena while we can. AJ and I have also been doing some moderate hill work for strength and conditioning. It's great to change things up so your horse's body can adapt to different demands.

Great summary of important research led by Dr. Sue Dyson on equine pain and facial expression, and implications for recognizing lameness in horses (via Fran Jurga) https://hoofcare.blogspot.ca/2017/06/sue-dyson-equine-ethogram-facial-expression-lameness-video.html

Researchers at the Animal Health Trust (AHT) Centre for Equine Studies in England have produced a practical tool to help owners, riders, and professionals recognize signs of pain by observing a horse’s facial expressions. The second part of the study was published recently, along with a new video, w...
