« I’m not a good enough leader for my dog. » 💔
« It’s my fault because I’m not giving them the calm and confident leader they need. » 💔
- I hear this ALL the time from pet parents and it makes me mad. 😡
Why?
Because having calm and confident leadership WITHOUT the right knowledge, skills, strategies and tools and practice is impossible.
As dog trainers, it’s easy for us to have that kind of leadership because we understand dogs, we’ve studied their behaviour and over time, have equipped ourselves with a diverse toolkit to appropriately implement our knowledge in different situations.
You, as a pet parent, don’t have all this training and experience. So it makes no sense to expect this out of yourself. Give yourself a break.
🌟 The calm and confident leadership that you see in us (dog trainers) is the RESULT of our expertise and experience. Which you simply don’t have because it’s not your job!
You wouldn’t put yourself down because you can’t fix your kid’s broken leg by yourself…
“If only I was the calm and confident parent they needed. I should be able to fix this.”
No! You’d go to the doctor. And the doctor wouldn’t tell you: “Well, you know, it wasn’t so much the physical intervention but rather my calm and confident leadership.”
The physical intervention was necessary. And the reason the doctor was calm and confident is because he is trained and this is his field of expertise.
🐶 Same with us, dog trainers.
We can teach you the skills, strategies, proper use of tools, etc. to work with your dog. And in doing so, you will BECOME the calm and confident leader that you want to be.
Because you’ll understand your dog and know what to do in different situations to maintain control and safety.
Calm and confident leadership comes AFTER learning and implementing, not before.
Whatever is going on with your dog, stop blaming yourself and your poor leadership.

How old is too old? 👴🐶
How long is too long to see changes?
Dog training can’t “fix” everything. Management, and Compassion for the dog that’s in front of you (their personality and capacity) is always part of the equation. And improvements are different than perfection (no such thing as perfection).
BUT, change can still happen for you and your dog no matter how old you are (unless you are older than 65… that’s ancient… 😜).
