This may be my most favourite adoption ever.

Pluto the bunny went into the Harrow Fair this weekend. Not only did he win 1st place, but he also won a very unique forever home!

You see, Pluto isn't the first bunny this family opened their hearts up to. They had a lovely bunny-baby before, who they loved so dearly. When that bunny passed away, they took some time to grieve, before realizing they loved having a bunny companion. With the Harrow Fair coming up, they decided to wait to see if any bunnies would be posted for sale.

Enter Pluto.

So what makes this adoption so special? When they called me asking for some information on this guy, I told them about his age, his sweet nature, and finally, his name. When I said Pluto, they gasped.

Pluto was the name of their rainbow bridge bunny.

Wanna talk about stars aligning?! He was adopted on the spot and went home today, already very clearly comfortable and happy with his new humans.

Congratulations Pluto on your new forever home and to his loving family for gaining a friend they can reminisce with create new memories with, and heal with 🩷

Thank you to Kseniia Semenova for capturing some of yesterdays meet and greet at the Optomist Park picnic.
There was so much kindness, fantastic questions and sweet smiles shown towards the animals - it was great to see!
A massive thank you to my wonderful volunteers Trey, Bree and Jenny who made everything go smoothly, helping introduce the animals and maintaining safety measures to keep everyone calm and happy. Also to Optimist Club of South Windsor for having us out.
I'm so grateful for my team, this group of patient animals, and all of you for continuing to support us, and follow our story ❤️

We received word another alumni crossed rainbow bridge yesterday morning 🌈

At 17 years young, beautiful Stella passed away, her tail wagging right up until the end.

"She didn't have a mean bone in her body. She was sweet, silly, affectionate and adorable. There is already a gaping absence in the house and in our hearts," said her mama, Michelle.

Stella was abandoned by her family when they moved away, and was a strictly outdoor dog before they left. Despite being ignored most of her life, she was incredibly sweet and her personality came out immediately during her freedom ride. The weight of her past life instantly came off the moment the chain was removed from her collar. When her adopted family came forward, it was a clear match. They treated her with so much kindness and understanding, knowing she was an old girl to begin with on her adoption day. They gave her the life she deserved all along, and she will be very deeply missed.

Our hearts go out to the Lewis family 🪽

Katherine Dines: 🐢 Anyone who loves turtles is encouraged to find out more about local organizations and how they can help.

A group of tiny snapping turtle hatchlings was just released into their natural habitat in the Rideau River after being carefully incubated over the last two months.

It all began in the spring, when a female snapping turtle crawled up onto the volleyball court behind the Nesbitt Biology Building at Carleton University and laid her nest in the sand.

Luckily, the nest was discovered in time, and 53 eggs were safely recovered.

So far, 32 of the 53 eggs have hatched. The rest are expected to hatch and be released in the coming days.

Snapping turtles are a Species of Special Concern in Canada — not yet endangered, but they need protection to stay that way.

🛑THIS POST IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES, NOT TO TEAR ANYONE DOWN🛑

I want to start by saying the owner did the right thing by trying to find help for these birds. These guys were found by someone in this condition by the road with a free sign. They tried to help them, but realized they needed more than they could do, and looked for help.

That said, the issues here are extremely, extremely clear. You don't have to be a bird expert to know these poor beings are suffering from a multitude of problems that range from a mite infestation, to abnormal beak growth.

This isn't like Dorothy was when she arrived here, we definitely aren't in Kansas anymore.

With the help of some trusted individuals, we've come up with a plan for the most kind thing we can do for this little flock.

I say this part with unfathomable pain, because in just a few hours together, I've gained trust, a sense of safety and the desire for companionship from these sweet souls. With a lot of thought, and realistic planning for undoing whats been done, we determined 3 of these 6 babies are not likely to survive the rehabilitation process they will have to go through to get everything under control. The most humane thing, the with the kindest of intentions for them is to euthanize.

Remember these faces the next time you think about bringing a pet home, and you aren't entirely sure you'll have the time or resources to give them what they need. They have a lengthy lifespan, they have feelings, and they deserve so much more than this.

Do your research, avoid allowing this fate for another living creature.
