Your dog just went out the back door alone. You have 60 seconds before a coyote can strike.

RIGHT NOW: Coyote mating season (next 4-6 weeks). Males are territorial, aggressive, and hunting small pets.

What happens: Silent. Fast. Your pet is gone before you hear anything.

What to do TODAY:
β†’ NEVER let pets out alone (day or night)
β†’ Leash walks only (even in your yard)
β†’ Scan yard before opening door
β†’ Motion lights + air horn by door

Your dog trusts you to protect them. They can't protect themselves from a 40-pound predator.

Go outside WITH them. Every. Single. Time.

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Why, At Safe Haven of course!

Introducing the perma-wink duo!

Auggie is no longer the only amputee on the farm, he's been joined by a very big handsome senior boy with the exact same situation πŸ’™

Meet Romeo, an 11 year old sweet boy who's family love him so much. With their love coming before everything else, they made the toughest decision ever to bring him somewhere that will pick up and continue the love. Romeo's senior owners could no longer care for him due to health issues, and family members outside the household couldn't safely keep him due to their current furbabies.

It was a brave, and trusting choice - and we're honored to have the opportunity to have this living, breathing work of art on the farm πŸˆβ€β¬›

Auggie and Romeo literally cannot see eye to eye, but this idea of friendship is definitely something Romeo is cozying up to. George, being a baby, just sees a new uncle to play with, which is exciting!

Welcome Romeo!

I've had some people stop me while passing by during chores, and message on our socials asking where Miss Lucy is! 🫏

To put it plainly, Lucy is built for comfort, not whatever the heck is happening outside. Her disability makes mobility tough in the cold - adding in the fact the ground is a lot more uneven with the thaw and refreeze, and the ice.. she would have to walk to the hay on the opposite side of the paddock, then to the barn again for shelter. And Darling Lucy... well, she doesn't like to make that trek. So she either chooses to stay cozy, and skips meals, or she chooses to eat and camps out in the cold for hours and hours instead of making the journey back to the barn, until I make her do it with the promise of a sweet treat at the end. And just feeding her in the barn results in Honey kicking her out and stealing it all.

So now, she has the best of all worlds until the weather sorts itself out. She is happily enjoying room service in her warm temporary stall (thank you Rob!) with fresh hay, refilled water, and shavings that are not only comfy, but soft and "even grounded" for her wonky donkey legs.

She can still hear you if you yell "We love you Lucy!" And she may even reciprocate the love - and don't worry! She'll be back in the public eye come sunshine and high temperature 🌑

It is worth noting that my colleague here would like to bring the following to your attention: Raccoon mating season usually occurs from late winter to early spring (January to June), with peak activity taking place in February and March, although local climate and daylight conditions may cause variations.

The urge to mate prompts raccoons to become more active, particularly around homes, attics, and crawlspaces.

Mild winters can cause kits to be born as early as late January or February!

So a Raccoon out during the day, does not always mean they are sick! Sometimes they're looking for food, during their travels of looking for "an afternoon delight" if you will 🦝

For the safety of our birds however, this sweet baby was safely captured

Just a little update on Sir Othello Richfield

Not the prettiest picture, definitely not the best by far but it's a perfect representation of life with Othello. This boy does NOT know personal space. He wants to be in the business, know the gossip, see the sights and most of all, acquire the scritches 🐏

He's getting along very well in the bachelor pad with Alfie and baby Chief and seems to be super food motivated. I'm playing a balancing game with him, making sure while he does need some weight, that he doesn't put too much on and possibly make his mobility with his inverted knees worse. Right now, gaining trust and a loving understanding is the #1 priority
