New years Resolutions?

We’ve got them here at Muskoka Doodles:

1. Love, care for, and train our puppies until they go to their forever people.

2. Work on Momma Judy’s training with the hope she will be a therapy dog and continue our therapy dog legacy. (We’ve had a therapy dog in the house for 8 years- want to have another one ready when our current guy retires)

3. Get genetic and hip testing done for Lucille to see if she will be our next Momma.

Do you have any dog related resolutions?

What is different about Muskoka Doodles?

One thing is that our puppies are fully integrated into our lives while we have them with us.

They have their puppy area for safety when we can’t have eyes on them, but if we are home they just hang out with us, on the couch, napping on the floor, playing with our other dogs. We work on house training, crate training, and general dog training.

The hope is that they know what it’s like to be a dog in the house, and can transition from us to you with ease. Two of these little friends are ready to make that transition. (Rosa and Jennie)

We signed the puppies we have with us up for puppy preschool. Since every puppy needs an adult with them in class we are rotating through them.

Jennie was up first to attend. We practiced sitting calmly to meet someone (she rocked that), coming when called, going through a hoop, trading a toy for a treat, and had some puppy playtime.

Jennie was very interested in herself in the mirror. She was a very good girl, a nice student.

Harriet and Jennie went to two pets stores and Canadian Tire.

Friendly and sweet girls. They think everyone should stop and tell them how cute they are, and cannot believe when someone walks right past without saying hello.

Often they turn to follow that person as if to say “you must not have seen me, I’ll give you another chance.”

Jennie! Our Jennie girl is action packed, ready for adventure. She likes to run and jump and play. She is independent, not demanding attention - but willingly accepts the pets that come her way. She likes to meet new people, she doesn’t mind being off doing her own thing. She loves to wrestle and play with her Momma Judy.

Jennie would love to have a dog best friend, if someone in the house wanted to rumble with her she thinks that would be amazing. She would be fine on her own, since she’s happy and independent, but a best friend would be 😘

What to say about little Rosa?

Rosa was the smallest puppy we’ve ever had. Only 157grams when she was born. She gave me a real scare being that tiny, but she’s grown as expected and has been thriving since day one.

Rosa is a bit needy, and I say that with so much love. She needs love and attention, she wants to snuggle on the couch, she wants to nap in the bed. She’d rather sleep in the crate instead of the puppy area because the crate is closer to the people and the other dogs.

An ideal home for Rosa would be someone who has love to give. Maybe they work from home, or are retired, or love to take their dog with them places, because she would love nothing more than to spend all her time with her people. She just wants to give out love all the time.

We have only three little ladies left. Harriet, Jennie, and Rosa - love bugs. These girls LOVE to snuggle. They want to sit on the couch and be close to you. Rosa has taken a shine to our Springer Spaniel - Uncle Sully. She’s often curled up next time him if given the chance.

They all sleep well in the crate all night, and are doing very well with house training.

Harriet returned from her vacation with reports that she’s a very good girl. Got along with the chocolate lab boys, slept in her crate without much fuss, and had no accidents.

We missed our sweet girl when she was gone, but happy she had the experience.

Lucille puppy positions. Work that brain Lucille.

Rosa practicing her training.

We work with our puppies on their basic skills because it helps them when they go to their new home, AND it helps them to burn some energy. Using that brain takes work.
