Day 3
A little off leash work. Getting her to focus!
Day 2
Pup has reacted really well to yesterday’s boundaries and has actually started to correct herself!
When she got here Sunday night she was all over the place, jumping, whining, barking, hackles up, pulling high adrenaline with no level headed thinking!
She was in a harness and it was actually cutting off blood flow to her front legs causing pain. Many people don’t realize the damage a harness can cause besides breathing restriction and leg movements.
She bit my hand while hand feeding her and was aggressive about food.
Today she is taking one kibble at a time sitting quietly. Correcting her own jumping and listening to “leave it” quite consistently. She is calmly napping hard in her kennel regulating herself. She is going to be absolutely amazing!
Day 1
End of her first day has created a much calmer and level headed pup. She had a 1 km leash training walk in the morning. Hand fed and 3 hr crate nap then a walk and hand fed. She is not allowed off leash and is learning big boundaries, NEVER walking in front of me!
Can you have a prey drive dog around chickens?YES!!
Do i leave my dogs locked in with the chickens? NO!
Respect is earned, not given and communication is key.
I teach any dog “ leave it” when they arrive here. Its usually the first thing they learn!
I take the dogs consistently with me into the coop twice a day and every once in awhile Juno will sniff a chicken or nudge one but thats it!
Its about leadership, i say off limits and they respect it.
I do the work before i put them in a position!
Dont set them up for failure by skipping the work!
Harley learns to jump
Harley is getting stronger, still really struggles with stairs ( only can go up) his eyesight is still impaired ( he runs into lots of things) and his back legs weak, hes had a few seizures but overall hes really showing us he wants to survive!!
Watching you
Do your dogs pay attention to you? I practice this with my dogs everyday! Haveing 6 kids made it difficult to keep my eyes on them so I taught them at a early age to keep a eye on me. I use this same concept with my dogs. In this clip you can see young izzy pup notice me slowly walking away and quickly follow, this creates excellent recall!
Harley leans to navigate water! His first forest adventure, he got lost in high grass but his recall is incredible so as long as you keep making noise he recognizes he follows! Amazing!
Harley update
This pup born early May has many special needs, floppy joints, partial blindness, bowel and gut issues, and neurological issues. Hes also less then 1/2 the size he should be!! But wow he’s trying hard to live, he wants to thrive! I’ve learnt so much from him!
Izzy and Me
Izzy and I will be heading off it to the forest for a bit as life’s challenges have become difficult. We will be taking on more responsibilities and rescues in the future as well as offering some new supports. Stay tuned!
Last walk
These girls have been amazing and ive loved every minute with them!
Leash training
I know i know, prong collars can be seen as controversial but using tools to help you and your pup communicate can create a beautiful relationship. I also use tools so they WORK FOR ME and PUP. I try different things watch pups reaction and body lang.
In this video this pups second time on leash, she can feel the weight and consistency of the pressure without pain to direct her… i probably will move to a martingale or slip leas next session.
Ready to go
This beautiful czech girl is getting ready to go to her forever home. She spends a few hours in our home with no siblings, crate at night and follow/leash play. She knows leave it, out, off, just by living in our house. This helps smooth the transition!
