Please spread the word for this lost cat. Mykitah was LOST on July 10, 2024 in Kelowna, BC V1W 2P8 near Rotary Beach Park
Message from Owner: Dear Okanagan Community,
I am reaching out to all in hopes of locating my missing kitten. I believe that the Okanagan Humane Society has found her and, in August, I paid for her re-adoption fees, as well as her spay, vaccinations, and microchip registration, yet was not released my animal back to me.
Despite my ongoing efforts to retrieve her, I have faced significant emotional distress due to the lack of clear communication from the Humane Society. I completely appreciate and admire the valuable work they do for animals, but I find myself in a troubling situation that has unfortunately led to unnecessary conflict and heartache for both myself and my other cats, who miss her dearly.
I have been informed by various sources, including volunteers from other local rescue organizations and employees from a nearby pet store, that the volunteer president of the OHS may be withholding my kitten based on unfounded accusations of abandonment and claims regarding my fitness as a pet owner. I currently have two other healthy cats that live indoors with me in Kelowna, which I believe underscores my capability as a responsible pet owner.
Additionally, I have received concerning information regarding the OHS’s potential "catch and release" program, which reportedly involves spaying animals and releasing them back into the community. However, the EIDAP microchip database still lists the OHS as the caretaker of my kitten, despite claims that she has been released from their facility. The confusion surrounding this situation is exacerbated by the lack of communication regarding where and how I can retrieve my pet.
My mother has also attempted to reach out to the Okanagan Humane Society to address the misinformation being circulated by the volunteer president about my situation. The emotional toll of this ordeal has been significant; we even missed my kitten’s first birthday on December 9th due to these circumstances.
I genuinely seek assistance in locating my kitten or guidance in navigating this situation. As a passionate pet owner, I would prefer to resolve this matter amicably without resorting to legal action, as I know the Okanagan Humane Society plays a crucial role in our community.
Thanks to all who took the time to read this message, as it has been a difficult time for my family and I.
Sincerely,
Haley L.
