Whether you’re planning a poolside staycation, or day at the beach, pets (like humans) can suffer from hypothermia in cold water.

Rule of thumb: if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your pet!

It’s Lyme Disease prevention month - a disease transmitted by ticks!

We highly recommend the Lyme vaccine for dogs who live in or frequent areas known for Lyme disease, or potential tick exposure.

Areas such as hiking trails, wooded areas, long grass, campgrounds

Symptoms of Lyme Disease in dogs:
Most common symptoms are lameness, swelling of lymph nodes and joints, fatigue, and loss of appetite

*note that dogs may not show signs of illness for weeks or months after becoming infected
If detected early, antibiotics can dissipate symptoms, however the dog will remain Lyme disease positive for the rest of their life

This week is National Pet ID Week! Did you know that the first thing a veterinary clinic or humane society will do when a lost pet is brought into them, is to check for an ID or microchip?

We know how it feels for a pet to go missing. Microchipping or tags can help get them home!

🔬 HEARTWORM 🔬
Have you wondered why we recommend heart worm testing every 1-2 years, around parasite prevention season?

The answer is:
🪱 confirm the heart worm treatment is working, and to confirm your pet hasn’t contracted heart worms in the previous season
🪱administering heart worm preventatives to a dog infected with adult heart worm, may be harmful or deadly - but causing a shock-line reaction to your pet

It’s time to schedule your pets heart worm test in preparation for heart worm medication start (around June 1). 📞 call the clinic to schedule!

Did you know that you have the option to swap out a cone for a pet medical shirt on a number of procedures? Zoey here is an excellent model!

Medical shirts are light-weight, breathable, and can help prevent stress and anxiety compared to a typical cone, while still providing the important benefit of avoiding infection by the surgical area being licked, or environmental factors such as dust and dirt!
