Miss Draya is still not eating on her own, but she has been eating a few greens or peppers with help. She has also been getting 2 syringes of slurry twice a day. She has gained 6 grams since she came. We are very encouraged.

Doni lays eggs, part 2
Our Rescue Red-Eared Slider is laying her second clutch of eggs since coming into Rescue in November 2022. Donatella had been kept with two males, who competed for her affection, by nipping her neck and back legs relentlessly. When she came to us she had several antibiotic resistant infections which required 2 surgeries, and several rounds of injected, oral and topical antibiotics to clear up. She was dry docked for almost a year before she was able to swim freely in her tank. Doni is now healthy and happy, and available for adoption to an experienced keeper (or one who is willing to learn).

Doni has been very restless the past few days. It was a nice day today so I took her outside to explore while we gave her tank a good cleaning. Now I know why she was restless.
Jeri also laid eggs the other day despite showing no signs of having any. So she is really needing to put on some weight now.

Have been trying to get a video of Freckles taking a worm from the tongs since he came, but he is just too quick. This was the best I could get. This guy absolutely loves superworms! He is still a tiny guy, but he has grown twice the size he was when we got him, and more than doubled in weight. He will be going to his new home tomorrow.

It took three attempts today for him to get her into position. He kept backing away and taking a little rest in between. The whole process from when I first put him in to when he actually inseminated her was about 2.5 hours. Most of it was waiting.

Aragog has gotten Kipper in position, and is trying to find the opening on her abdomen in which to deposit one of the sperm packets he has on his pedipalps (the leg like appendages near his head). Once he finds it, he will insert a packet, and then flip her on her back and try to get away before she tries to bite him.

For those who wanted to see the "dance". Kipper initiated it this time, so Aragog didn't do the little shimmy. But you can see how he is being very cautious and deliberate in his approach so she doesn't think he is food.
