Thank you to all the wonderful RVTs out there! We appreciate you 🤎

October is ! 🎉 Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) are invaluable members to any veterinary team and they often wear many hats in the clinic.

The Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada - RVTTC says "RVTs are formally educated in a number of areas within veterinary medicine. From anesthesia to dentistry; lab animal research to industry sales; equine to avian and exotics; nutrition to radiology; large animal to shelter medicine, RVTs bring forward a diverse background to share alongside veterinarians, providing animals with the highest quality of healthcare."

Be sure to thank your RVT at your next visit and let them know how much you appreciate them! Today and everyday, we're thankful for the highly skilled and dedicated RVTs within the community of hospitals and for the excellent care they provide pets in their local communities. 💚

Thank you for all you do!

Hey! I have an important announcement for anyone that bought a puppy or a new dog this summer…

Leave your dog alone sometimes! In a crate, or safe space in your house. With a yummy treat maybe, and the radio playing. But make it happen every day! Even for a little bit.

If you’ve been lucky enough to be home all summer, or your kids have been- you need to start teaching your dog about what your regular routine is like. It’s going to be a pretty rough first week if you haven’t prepared your pup!

Start small- if the dog is used to being left alone a little bit then you can just increase that a little at a time! If the dog hasn’t been left alone at all then you’ve got some work to do!

Separation Anxiety is a struggle for the dog and for you, and once you’ve got full blown anxiety happening it a process to change that behavior. So do yourself a favor and be proactive about this!

This is why your dog actually WON'T spend the entire day running and romping around with ... 🙈

Just like us humans, our dogs need a variety of activities to add a little ✨ spice ✨ to their day-to-day lives.

If you're thinking, "But my dog is going to daycare to run and play all day, he doesn't need mental enrichment!"—you're right that dogs need exercise, but high levels of physical activity can sometimes have a negative effect on their behaviour. For that reason, we actually DON'T allow our guests to play all day, and here's why:

It is important to balance physical and mental stimulation. Traditional daycare settings and high-intensity exercise like fetch, running and playing with other dogs increases your dog's adrenaline levels. Your dog needs a way to bring those adrenaline levels back down to normal after strenuous activities.

So how does provide a comprehensive daycare and boarding experience?

We lead with enrichment! 🧠

Yes, your dog will have LOTS of time throughout the day to engage in physical activities such as running in the fenced yard and wrestling with our resident dog to get their daily exercise, but we also have several enrichment periods throughout the day when they get to decompress to help level out those adrenaline levels. 🤪

How do we do it?

🧩 Your dog's meals are served in puzzle toys or slow feeder bowls to encourage problem-solving

🦮 Decompression walks (we call them Sniff Walks) and structured walks are INCLUDED in our daycare and boarding rates

📦 We provide sound and scent enrichment activities such as Dog TV, snuffle mats and box games

🤸‍♀️ We practice obedience and trick training to provide cognitive enrichment and maintain a bonded relationship with your pup

🧸 Your dog enjoys nightly-catered KONGs or other toys stuffed with treats before bedtime to help them sleep better

Those who know me know I used to be an army dog trainer. I learned two things while I was in the army working with dogs, both are still a daily part of my life.

First: you always sort your dog out before you sort yourself out.

Are they thirsty or hungry? Do they need anything at this point? Every day without fail, I follow this rule that I learned so many years ago. Dogs can’t just fill up a water bowl, they can’t stop a griping hunger in their stomach on their own, but we can. So I choose to meet their needs before I work on my own, and I always will.

Second: you always move at the slowest man’s pace.

This lesson taught me everything about living with older, slower dogs. As dogs get older, they run less. Older dogs sniff more. They sniff everything. Senior dogs might be stiff and achy and need to cover less ground, but they cover that ground at a slower pace.

Please consider their needs and go at their pace.

It’s not fair to leave them behind or pull them along.
