Renovated a nice room for this native spider roommate of mine! Still not the best at discerning wolf and grass spiders but my guess... is grass? 😅
The week before this one was one if those happily busy but peaceful ones 😊 a nice way to prepare for the week we just had 😵💫😅😅
I usually defend people who are afraid of snakes, believing it's simply intrinsic to some primates but this is incredible! If you would like to get over your fear of snakes it is more than possible! Very inspiring babies!

Absolutely tragic to see. Pets are family and they depend on you. That alone should afford them protection and rights but so many animals get overlooked by systems that see no issue excluding them, despite more and more research being conducted and coming out to challenge defamatory claims against these animal's intelligence, sentience, ect. -as if that makes it an alright basis to discriminate against their rights as compared to mammalian animals. Even if new research was not undoing the years of gaslighting against people who keep amphibians, fish, reptiles and even birds, we firmly believe that the ability to reason is not what should give any organism rights and that, as Jeremy Bentham said over 200 years ago, rights should be given based on the ability to suffer so as to protect against perpetuating unnecessary pain. This is more than possible and long overdue.

It's morph myth monday again because I saw some dubious information... This is not how genetics work. As we discussed in the last morph myth Monday, overgeneralizations such as these are inaccurate and I personally don't believe they should be spread. Super aztecs are often* nonviable and will die from genetic issues. That is extreme. However, these genes have to come from somewhere, which makes Aztecs a carrier of the gene and often times in cases of morphs carriers will show varying degrees of symptomology. This is why I find it difficult to find information on different issues regarding morphs, especially outside of ball pythons, since they are in many places the most popular pet snake and as such have the most information available. Please do not allow people do rewrite how genetics actually work because they make money off of it. Always ask yourself what somebody has to gain from the information they give you. Petstores and breeders have to make money, feed themselves and their family, and maybe in some cases they do believe what they are saying is the truth. You do not have to be the same way, though! I'm not saying that this information is a lie, just that at the very least, it SEEMS TO be a misleading oversimplification.

These cards don't detect UVB but they can be a good way of comparing the intensity of the UV radiation inside of an enclosure vs. the ultraviolet light that comes from the sun! This card is not nearly as purple, even under a petstore "basking" light.
This is SUCH incredible news! Thank goodness these wonderful, dedicated people were able to find a simple solution ❤️ That said, even though amphibians are especially vulnerable to sudden death, expert exotics vets have said that if an animal gets ill very suddenly, there is likely other underlying issues so we cannot let a victory like this take away from the need to stop pollution and habitat description for these precious, irreplaceable bioindicators of ours 🙃🫠😊
This is great of them, animal surrenders in many places are at an all time high and the number is only growing. Pets are FAMILY! People do not want to have to choose between shelter and their family members but all across Canada they have to. It needs to stop.
