We have an older puppy available due to no fault of his own. His owner decided that the changes happening at work and his lifestyle werent really a good match for a dog right now. So Mr red has come home to us to find his happily ever after.
I will have a more indepth write up in the coming weeks as he shows us who he is, but from chatting with his owner and the people who know Red, and the few short days hes been home, this is what I know:
He is insanely sweet and clearly thinks hes a lap dog, hes very gentle for the breed, and will respect your space once you’ve asked him to. He is not massive, about average for a male of his breed and age. Just in and around the 70lbs mark. He has a lovely dark coat which is not super common for this breed.
He may make a good weekend warrior sport dog, time will tell as he lacks a ton of muscle and will need some fitness work. He has spent his summer paddleboarding, swimming and camping on the weekends. He would make a great hiking buddy for the active family. He likes dogs and seems cat safe but I will continue to look at this and update as we go.
He is crate trained, house trained, up to date on all his shots. He will come with ukc registration and his new family listed as a successor until health testing and 2 titles are achieved. At that point Im happy to transfer full ownership. If they become eligible for ckc registration I will cover the cost of that as well.
So far it seems his ideal home - has a large backyard, fenced and likes being outdoors and taking their dog with them. His family has another friendly medium energy dog. His new owners must he willing to attend atleast one round of classes (typically 6 weeks in length) and understand that the breed can be frustrating at times, and require lifelong socialization and work. Red seems to be on the lower end of needing exercise and enrichment, and is just happy to hangout once hes tired.
He is priced fairly for his age, a little lower than his puppy price but not much considering he is UTD.
I havent gotten my hands on him yet personally as Im still in Vancouver, but I dont think he is a conformstion/show candidate, and as such is being sold to a pet /low level sport home only. Unless muscle magically changes him a bunch or in person he stacks up nicely, for now Im just placing him as such.
