Feline Infectious Peritonitis is a viral disease caused by mutated feline coronavirus that causes an inflammatory reaction that if not treated is 100% fatal.
Historically there was no treatment options available, however we are now able to import GS-441524 - a medication which effectively inhibits the viral replication. 💊

🩺🐾What is a Fluorescein Stain in Dogs?🐾🩺
Ever wondered how veterinarians check for eye issues in dogs? One common and essential test is the fluorescein stain.

👁️How it’s done:
1. A special fluorescent dye is applied to your dog’s eye.
2. A blue light is then used to highlight any abnormalities or injuries.

👁️Why it's important:
• Detects Corneal Ulcers: The dye adheres to areas where the cornea is damaged, making it easier to spot ulcers or scratches.
• Jones Test: This test checks if the tear ducts are functioning properly by observing the flow of dye from the eye to the nose.

Swipe left to see:
1. 🎥 A video demonstration of the fluorescein stain process.
2. 📸 A dog's eye under blue light after the stain was applied.
3. 📸 The results of the Jones test showing the dye reaching the nose.

Talk to your family veterinarian for a referral and schedule an appointment to provide the care your pet needs.

Thank you to our model

YES OR NO? 🛁

A healthy adult cat does not require bathing unless he or she has gotten into something that has coated the fur and can't be easily removed with brushing.
Cats groom themselves naturally, however their owners should help keep them clean by brushing or combing them regularly. 🪮

PAIN IN CATS ❗️❗️❗️

Cats are masters at hiding the pain they may be in. More than 80% of cats 12 and older have radiographic evidence of OA (osteoarthritis).
It's very important through all stages of your cats life to watch out for any signs of changes in behaviour and keep up with annual wellness exams.

STAR PATIENT ⭐

Meet the bravest boy, Lemmy 🫶 who came in to see Dr. Barboza and show off his new 'blind dog halo' which acts as a bumper harness to ensure he does not bump into anything while he transitions into this new stage of his life.
Lemmy is a great example of how through routine health exams, learning and love we can support our elderly pets through all stages of their lives and something like losing your eye sight does not have to mean it's the end.

Please contact us to learn more about how routine eye exams can benefit your pet!

GLAUCOMA AWARENESS 💚

What is Glaucoma?

👁 Glaucoma is a disease of the eye in which the pressure within the eye, called the intraocular pressure (IOP), is increased.

👁 Glaucoma is caused by inadequate drainage of aqueous fluids and is further classified as primary and secondary glaucoma

👁 Primary glaucoma results in increased pressure in a healthy eye. Secondary glaucoma results in creased intraocular pressure due to disease or injury to the eye ball.

Your pet should have their eyes examined during their annual appointment and if your veterinarian feels they have an eye concern that requires special attention our referral form to see our ophthalmologist, Dr. Barboza, can be found on our website.

Signs to look out for at home are -
👁 Watery discharge from the eye
👁 Eye pain (partially closed, rubbing or turning away when you try to touch)
👁Physical swelling or bulging of the eyeball
👁Lethargy

DID YOU KNOW?? 🐈🐈

It is not only our canine companion that enjoys playing fetch. As some cat owners may have already noticed, cats enjoy fetch as well.

Playing fetch with a cat is a bit different than playing fetch with a dog. Fetching felines tend to dictate when this play begins - and ends. 🧶

So as Dr. Wang would say, the cats are in control!!

Does your cat like to play fetch?

HAPPY FRIDAY 🐾

Meet Miss Vayda Mae!

This little lady was in practice to finish her last set of puppy vaccines (DA2PP+Lepto+Rabies) and she is now vaccinated for one year 👏👏

In one year 📆 when Vayda Mae comes back for her annual vaccine appointment, if she schedules an appointment with us, within a 2 week period of the vaccines expiring, we are offering 3 year Rabies and 3 year DA2PP vaccines.
This means no core vaccines for 3 years!

Lepto, Lyme and Bordetella still require yearly boosters and we always recommend an annual wellness exam 🩺

We also offer 3 year FVRCP and 3 year Rabies for our kitty friends too when booked no later than 2 weeks from the due date 🤍
