Everyone give Bruno a warm welcome to board and train! 👋
As a teenage big boy he’s learning some chill and better social skills with our doggy friends. He’s a little extra with his greetings. And we’re working on him being a bit more civilized. It will help foster positive dog to dog relationships as well as make walks more enjoyable for mom if not everything is a party 🎉

Everyone say “Hi, Bruno!!”

PSA. Letting your dogs on the couch, on the bed etc does NOT CAUSE behaviour problems.
There are valid reasons one may choose to not have animals on these surfaces(size, safety, existing guarding of space issues, sleep issues etc ) but prevention of behaviour issues shouldn’t be one of them!
Me, I bought this couch exclusively for the dogs 😂

Adding a Puppy to a Home with an Adult Dog?
Here are some professional tips to ensure a smooth transition and a harmonious household:

1. Provide Quiet Space for the Adult Dog
• Puppies can be energetic and overwhelming, so it’s important to give your adult dog a quiet space where they can retreat and relax.

2. Monitor Interactions and Intervene When Necessary
• If the puppy is pestering the adult dog and ignoring signals such as walking away, disengaging, hard stares, growling, or snapping, intervene promptly to prevent stress or conflict.

3. Foster the Puppy’s Independence
• Encourage the puppy to spend time away from the older dog to develop independence. This helps them become confident and comfortable even when the adult dog is not around.

4. Focus on Individual Training and Walks
• Dedicate time to training and walking the puppy separately to ensure focused skill development and build a strong individual bond.
• work on training any skill deficients your adult dog may have too.

5. Prioritize Proper Socialization
• Expose your puppy to a variety of people, pets, and environments outside your household to develop their social skills. Keep in mind that socialization does not mean allowing your puppy to play with every dog they meet.

By following these steps, you’ll set both your puppy and adult dog up for success and create a positive environment for everyone in your home.

SMALL DOGS DESERVE TRAINING.
Training isn't just a big dog thing, small dogs need and deserve training too!
📸 of Bronx, a client of mine I met 7 years ago when he joined his family. Through training Bronx went from shut down and fearful to a dog who loves adventure and lives a full healthy life with his incredible owners!

Excessive barking, reactivity, fear, and "small dog syndrome" are not just "small dog things" that are to be ignored. They are signs of training, behaviour and enrichment needs gaps that need filling.

Let your small dog live their best life and commit to training them.

I often encounter clients who struggle to understand their dog’s aggression or reactivity. Many believe these behaviors are intrinsic personality traits, describing their dogs as inherently "aggressive" or "reactive." However, this perspective oversimplifies a complex issue. Aggression and reactivity are not fixed characteristics; they are behaviors that arise in response to specific stimuli, environments, or experiences. Recognizing this distinction is crucial as it provides a foundation for addressing and modifying these behaviors effectively.

Why Viewing Aggression as a Behaviour Matters

When we see aggression or reactivity as a behaviour rather than a personality type, it shifts the conversation from blame or resignation to understanding and problem-solving. Behaviours are influenced by genetics, environment, learning history, and emotional states. This perspective means that behaviours can be modified through thoughtful behaviour modification techniques.

Aggression and reactivity often stem from fear, frustration, pain, anger or stress. For example, a dog may growl or lunge because they feel threatened and want to increase distance from a perceived danger. Reactivity might occur because a dog has learned that barking and lunging effectively make other dogs or people go away.

According to Dr. Karen Overall, a leading veterinary behaviourist, in her book, Manual of Clinical Behavioral Medicine for Dogs and Cats, she emphasises the importance of addressing the causes of these behaviours than focusing solely on suppressing outward behaviors. Suppression without understanding can often exacerbate underlying issues, leading to a cycle of increased and escalated aggressive behaviours.

If your dog is exhibiting concerning aggressive behaviours reach out today to schedule an assessment.

One thing you can do to improve your relationship with your dog. Find a low barrier activity you BOTH love to do together. Spending time with your dog should be joyous for the both of you. For some it's easy like walking- but if you're struggling with reactivity or currently teaching loose leash skills, you might not love that activity (yet). Explore sports, activities, experiences you can do at home and near by. Trick training, nose work, hiking, obedience training, Rally training, urban agility, social play, drives to the countryside, hide and seek games, the opportunities are endless. Your dog loving it will be fun for them and you'll be more likely to get the results you want, and you loving it makes sure you're consistent (Ham and I love to paddle board together, however that activity does not bring joy to Gatsby) Mutual joy is one of the best ways to strengthen your bond. Already have an activity you all love? challenge yourself to add one more! What's the activity you and your dog love to do together?

For those who are unaware canine Parvo virus has had a couple of breakouts in the city of London - they are in the Chelsea Green Park and the Watson Street park area, however everyone should use diligence.

Canine Parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that can affect all dogs but the puppies, the unvaccinated and incompletely vaccinated dogs the most. Parvovirus can be deadly and we take it seriously. We have consulted with a couple of local vets to make sure we are doing our part to prevent Parvo virus while still ensuring puppies get proper socialization.

As always, our floors are disinfected with bleach to kill Parvo virus (and left wet for 10 min to ensure enough time). During this outbreak we are removing communal toys and water bowls and have removed some other items from our facility to make disinfecting easier and limit the number of surfaces we have to worry about.
Our team members have been instructed to increase and be diligent about hygiene and we will be discussing with clients about sick dog policies.

Our facility is not open door to the public so we do have information for all the dogs that come to us, and assurance that they are up to date on their vaccines, unlike some locations which have no barrier to entry with the dogs that come in their facility - pet stores etc we do not have that struggle.

To keep your and other pets safe please
1. Avoid hot spots listed above
2. keep puppies, unvaccinated and incompletely vaccinated dogs away from dog parks, and unknown dogs
3. ALWAYS pick up faces and keep your dog away from others f***l matter
4. keep your dog at home if they show any signs of illness. Diarrhoea, lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, abdominal pain or bloating.

Disease prevention is a community effort and we will do our best to do our part to keep dogs in our community safe and educate the public to do the same.

Balancing proper socialization and disease prevention has been a priority since day one. Not much is changing here because we have always been aware and cautious especially with our young puppy clients.

Testimonial Tuesday!
There are many great things about our job, playing with cute puppies, meeting amazing people, getting the opportunity to work with all the breeds! The absolute BEST part of our job is to see people and their dogs grow and incredible bond and relationship. Fixing or preventing issues that cause great stress for dogs and their people.

Many people say dogs are better than people. But honestly I LOVE the people part of this job just as much as the dogs. Both ends of the leash are just so wonderful and I truly love all of it.

When Pretzel entered our lives I really thought he was going to be a chill little pocket pup… boy was I wrong. He’s a fire cracker and always up for adventure. He outruns everyone. Is always excited to train- if he’s awake he’s ready 🔥 I wouldn’t have it any other way. He’s a perfect match for our family and brings so much joy.

I also underestimated how crazy his fur would get 😂😂 he was brushed yesterday but his fur texture just looks disheveled 5 mins later. Maybe time to seek professional help with this crazy hair although he kind of looks like Einstein and I like it

🍻 cheers to the dogs we entered our lives when we weren’t looking and we didn’t know we need 💕
