Animal Justice successfully laid a charge today at the Winnipeg courthouse in Canada against a live horse export company.

The charge stems from a shipment of live horses that exceeded the legal time limit for transport to Japan, during which three horses collapsed on the flight.

Pet food is NOT a comprehensively regulated commodity in Canada compared to food for human consumption or livestock feeds.

There is no vaccine for EIA, and infected horses become lifelong carriers. EIA is found throughout the world and is a reportable animal disease in the U.S. and Canada. They have connections across western Canada, which has helped to save hundreds of horses and at the same time built a very strong network in the horse industry along side with a few other Rescues who continue to work together. Notification of charges laid against Bouvry Exports Calgary Ltd.
Charges are related to activities of Bouvry Exports Calgary Ltd. that occurred in July 2021. The accused party appeared in provincial court in Fort Macleod, Alberta on August 16, 2023.

Following an investigation, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has laid 12 charges under the Safe Food for Canadians Act and regulations and the Health of Animals Act and regulations against Bouvry Exports Calgary Ltd., located in Fort Macleod, Alberta.
