‼️Gather around KP friends and family , for the 12th and final month end update for the year of 2025 !!!

🐾I write this as not a particularly emotional person, but with a happy tear or two in my eye as I look back on all of the updates we provided at the end of each month this year. I genuinely don't know if there are any words to describe what this year meant to all of us here at Katie's Place, but Im going to take a crack at this anyways ... 2025 was an absolutely insane year for many reasons, and it's hard to believe that this chapter is now coming to a close. Through the good , the bad , the ugly and the pretty, Katie's Place was open 365 days providing care to the oddball and wierdo kitties once living on the fringes of society.

🐾If you've followed these updates , and if you've met me even once this year, then you're likely aware of the famed "streak" we've been on of having more cats going out than coming in for each month of 2025. This streak may seem very numbers oriented , but truth be told I failed grade 12 math and was never much for numbers. So you may wonder , why do these numbers mean so much to us ??? It's because even when things looked bleak and the surrender requests were piling in (sometimes multiple in a day) with each one more "urgent" than the last , at least we could take some solace in the fact that there were more cats finding second chances than there were being left behind. It was a reminder that for every cat that "needed to be gone ASAP", every home that got a new dog and the cats had to go, every cat that was tossed aside for for being "too old" or too "high maintenance" , there was a kind and loving family willing to give these cats the second chance they needed. It wasn't always easy and it wasn't always fun. But .... It was always worth it and we wouldn't change a thing about this year!!!

🐾So with this in mind , we are very happy to announce that for the month of December and the last month of 2025 this streak lives on with a whopping 37 cats finding furrever homes !!! Meaning we have had one whole year of a purrrrfect streak. On the flippity flop, we also took in 31 cats in need of a safe landing place this month. Many of the adopted cats from December were long term residents of over a year , senior cats with health concerns, and shy kitties who flew under the radar. Some of the cats who were adopted in 2025 we thought might be with us their whole lives . Senior lady Josette who had been with us 8 years, the lovely but shy Piper and Narengi who were with us 3 years , Skipper who was with us for 2 years due to his habit of peeing on blankets and occasional crankiness, our tough cookie Oona, Blutarsky with his penchant for spraying, Sparky Gumdrop with her friend Specs after being returned to us multiple times. My personal favourite , Twinkle girl who once upon a time was set to be euthanized by another shelter due to aggression is now a pure cuddlebug after waiting a year at KP. We remember every send off like it was yesterday... Time flies when you're a personal servant to a bunch of cats !!

🐾For the whole year of 2025 , we helped 508 cats find loving furrever homes !!!!

🏡Adoptions aside , the year as a whole has been incredibly amazing and we have so many things to be grateful for. We had multiple successful matching campaigns and other fundraisers , we went viral (twice!!!), we were featured in a few major news outlets , and we won the A-list award for favourite non profit organization in Maple Ridge. When we needed blankets , you filled our sheds !!!! When we needed dry food , you filled all the cupboards !!! Every time we asked for help , you guys showed up above and beyond and made sure we had what we needed to do the work we do. We could not be more grateful to be apart of such a beautiful and supportive community.

🐾And finally , a big thank you to the over 100 volunteers who made it all possible. This year everything got bigger and busier, and our volunteers took it in stride and always gave each shift their all. They showed up on Thanksgiving , Easter, Christmas, on their Birthdays, on the rainy days when they surely would have rather stayed cozy in bed instead of scooping litterboxes !!! The volunteers played a part in the story of each and every cat who came to Katie's Place. The medicators , the cleaners , the cat whisperers, the maintenance crew, and the board of directors !!! All likeminded crazy cat people with a love of the underdogs (or cats, I guess?).

🐾I know I said if we had a perfect year I'd stop talking about the streak , but two years straight sounds pretty good to me 😉.

✨So for the last time in 2025, we extend a big thank you to everyone. Thanks for coming along for the ride !!

🐾Big man Phô was with us for about one month, before he stole the heart of his new momma and went off to his very own happily ever after !!! A big thank you to his adopter for choosing to give a senior kitty a loving home to call their own. We know Phô is going to bring all of his character and pizazz and spread that to his new family , we are sure they're going to have a blast together.

For any of our island supporters, this little man is available through our wonderful partner shelter Stray Cats of South Cowichan!!! Sadly his last adoption didn't work out and he needs a loving home.

We would really like to find Jayde the perfect home for the New Year!

Jayde is a shy boy about 1 year old. He needs a small space and a quiet home. He will take a little bit to get used to his surroundings and his person, but once he does he is a very sweet loving boy. He needs a child free, dog free home, but he would likely do well with a chill cat buddy (with proper introductions)

🥰The double decker orange creamsicle duo of your dreams has arrived at KP in all of their floofy glory !! Because let's be real , the only thing better than one orange kitty is two ! These bonded brothers have lived together their whole life and MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER ***

🐥Normally for pairs I'd write a little blurb about each of their personalities , but truth be told these boys are carbon copies of each other in almost every sense of the manner (except the little orange freckle on Gnus mouth). They have very similar temperaments , enjoy the same toys, and mimic exactly what the other does!!
They give twins a whole new meaning , and they love each other dearly.

🐾Emu and Gnu came to Katie's Place at 4 years old , they had been living on their own for a few months as their owner was hospitalized long term. Some good friends of the owner came by to feed the cats and care for them regularly, but when the owner sadly passed away two weeks ago it became clear new long term arrangements were needed. It's easy to tell these boys were well loved their whole lives, they are very soft mannered and gentle !!! They may be a bit hesitant of new people initially , but once they know you Emu and Gnu will crawl into your lap for snuggles.

🧡The boys would love a furrever home of their own that they can stay together in, with lots of soft beds and cat trees to perch on. They'd prefer no young children, but older respectful kids would be fine ! They do well with other cats and use their litterbox with ease. To top it all off they both have a clean bill of health, so they are ready to graduate from KP and start the next chapter of their lives !!

✨The apple crew packed their bags and headed off to their furrever home this weekend !!!!! These two had us all scratching our heads how they had been with us so long. These two absolute delights gave us a lot of playtime and snuggles, it is so wierd entering their room now that they're gone !!! But we know Gala and Mac deserve the best ever home and that's what they've found.

🐈‍⬛We see it every once in awhile, some kitties have a hard time adjusting to shelter life. Sadly the lovely lady Gazpacho is one of those kitties who has become withdrawn and overwhelmed by the hustle bustle of her room, and needs a loving home ASAP!!

❤️Gazpacho is 10 years old and came to us when her owner sadly went into end of life care. It is clear that Gazpacho was well loved her whole life , and she felt the loss of her home very deeply when she arrived at our doors. She is a soft presence with a warm and lovely soul, but sadly she tends to get bullied by other cats and as a result has become a bit fearful and overwhelmed by her kitty room mates. Most days would cram herself on the highest shelf pressed in the corner away from cats and volunteers alike, a crestfallen look on her sweet little face.

🏡Now we have brought Gazpacho down into one of the kennels so she can get a little more TLC, and have her slowly decreasing appetite monitored. She is already a lot more at ease in her own safe place, but we can still tell she needs a little bit more than a shelter environment can offer. She would love a quiet adult only home with a person (or people) to cuddle up with. She would prefer to be an only cat or live with a cat who's calm , friendly and non dominant.

💞Gazpacho does have a hyperthyroid condition for which she receives meds twice a day. Due to this condition she is eligible for our permanent foster program, meaning we will cover her medical bills for life on the condition she is brought to our vet clinics. She uses her litterbox well and truly is a darling little girl who needs her own space to heal.

🐾Our little house panther with the very best manners has officially been adopted , and we couldn't be happier !!! Heinz relished every moment at Katie's Place as there was an endless cycle of laps to sit on. But now he will have his very own home and family to shower him with endless love and affection. We sure will miss Heinz, but we know he's in great hands and has a wonderful life ahead of him.

✨This adoption means a lot to us after seeing how shut down poor Soldier was over the last few months. We are so proud of the progress he made learning to trust us, and then learning to trust his new family !!!! Soldier has officially gone to join his furrever home after a long stretch of instability and fighting for survival. We hope that he will enjoy all of the finer things in life from the warmth and safety of his new home , and can't wait to hear how he settles in !!

🏡He is Cha Cha real smooth indeed, the handsome Chowder is making his debut to Katie's Place social media with a face that will stop you in your tracks !!
A positively striking little man, he is in fact as soft as he looks.

🥫Chowder was an unfixed male being fed and housed by some good samaritans in a rural area. With the cold weather creeping in and the frost settling more and more, they wanted Chowder to have a chance at a loving furrever home where he can be warm and cozy for the rest of his days !! He is only 1 year old and now that he's been neutered he has a clean bill of health.

🍲Chowder was initially very skittish and shy when he arrived into our care , but now he has learned that there's nothing to be scared of and he accepts gentle pets with ease. He can still be nervous of loud sounds , and as such would prefer a quiet and cat savvy adult only home. Chowder is often found snuggled up with some of his kitty room mates, so we feel he will do best with another cat friend in his future home. We won't adopt Chowder as a solo kitty !!!

💚He is a sweet boy without a mean bone in his body, but he will need some time and patience to settle into a new space. If you have a kitty at home who could benefit from a little companionship , then Chowder is your guy !! Come meet him on Saturday and Sunday from 12-2pm.

🏡Starting off the weekend adoption announcements strong , we are happy to announce that Relic has found the furrever home of his dreams!!! This handsome man stole a lot of hearts during his time at KP, but it was really important to us that we found him a home that would meet all of his needs. Relic will now be living the dream and we are sooooo happy for him!!
