After taking some time to process, we are ready to share that Amira has been put to rest.
She was purchased last year for Scotia in November 2023 and was a real delight to have in our pasture. She continued to teach valuable lessons of patience and kindness and of course how to correctly give a treat to all the kiddos she got to meet. She became a gentle favorite to plenty of riders that she met here and has touched a much wider audience in her nearly 3 decades of life.
She will be missed, she will be remembered and she has been buried on the farm to remain in the lush grass which she loved. We also have a photo plaque which was made in her honour which students will be able to see and enjoy her face hanging in our barn for years to come.
Thank you for your service to our community old sweet girl. 💐 👼

As we approach the end of the year here is a quick look into a proud moment for each of our lesson horses this year!
Rory - has been coming leaps and bounds with her training, so many firsts this year for her, but specifically she went for training under groundworks.
Cobalt - cobalt got two photo mentions for both walking Morgan to the aisle on her wedding day, and taking to the beach for a lovely adventure late summer.
Jellybean - came quite far in settling down this season, she made some successful moves in both the English and western competition rings.
Kevin - a new addition but a big and hearty one, Kevin is learning how to be a lesson horse and not spook at everything he sees including those spooky small ponies.
Moxie - the little red mare despite being off for several months due to soreness made some nice runs this season in several different gymkhana rings.
Georgia - has been an angel of an addition to the team, she takes everything in stride and is a real confidence booster, a highlight of her year was going to her first show and pulling a ribbon in the jump rounds!
Karma - another newbie on our team, she took some time off this fall for an injury but also took two students around their first fun show patterns and continues to be a barn favorite.
Amira - lastly but not least miss Amira is being highlighted for taking her last kiddo on a riding lesson before being completely retired out of all mounted programs.
Can’t wait to see what the little unicorns get up to in 2025.

Another successful hay day! 630 bales loaded into the loft this morning smoothly and quickly with 10 volunteers on hand. Huge thank you to everyone who helped out. It takes a village to run a farm and we have a pretty good one here at Scotia 😁

After 11 months with this mare I felt it was time to give her another recognition post. Though she is not part of the program she tries her heart out at everything she does. From the first interactions in late January to wearing a saddle, carrying a rider and long lining this summer she’s come so far and we are so proud of her progress.
When Rory arrived you could not catch her, lead her, brush her, pick her feet, any of the basics. She’s now a solid citizen and preparing for her career as a riding horse in the future.

The faces of determination! Day 2 of our fall variety fun show was western themed! Another great judge, great turn out, great weather, great kids and parents, and fantastic horses. I’m pooped but my heart is so full. I couldn’t be more proud of our team and community.

Our riders have been hard at work making cards about things they are thankful for. We make these every year at Scotia and post them on our tack room wall to be reminded to take a minute to appreciate and be thankful for all of the wonderful animals, educators, family members and more in our lives. What are you thankful for?

Forever grateful to the best, most helpful, most supportive and caring and intelligent and kind girlies a coach could ever want on her team. Thank you to all of the grooms and riders who doubled as wedding day help and attendees on my most special day. Everything went seamlessly and all animals did their job due to their attentive wranglers endless passion and attention to detail. 🥹❤️

The girls and I had a fantastic day at CHAPS 2.0
The weather was great, everything ran on time and the atmosphere was welcoming and fun! We can’t wait for next year in Milford. The grounds look amazing the people running it obviously put their hearts into this project! So happy we got to be a part of the debut revival for this nostalgic running ground. Bigger shout outs to Moodie Casper and Jelly for being little angel ponies and giving us the best day and to our groom for being the world’s greatest assistant to us. We love her.

Wow what a great day of showing at CNHP. As always I was super impressed with all of our girls with how well they handle and adapt to any and all situations. How kind and supportive they are of each other and other riders. How much they love their ponies and how cool our team is as a whole. So fun to show off this crew during competitions! Looking forward to next weekend in Milford!

CNHP day 1 - we looked the part thank you to our master braiders and turn out captains. We were packed, organized and well stocked thanks to our oldest rider. We were excited and energized thanks to our youngest rider. We were determined and confident and optimistic thanks to our middle rider. We stayed hydrated, on time and well fed thanks to our parent team and we stayed sane thanks to Tim Hortons iced coffees and the whole bunch! Looking forward to a smooth day 2!

Meet NCCP Coach Morgan Flemming!

Flemming became NCCP-certified as an English Instructor in 2022 and now runs her own facility called Scotia Equitation in Meaghers Grant, NS.  She was involved in Equestrian Nova Scotia’s Gender Equity Team, has worked with therapeutic athletes and pony club over the years, and maintains an inclusive perspective on Equestrian Sport.

“My devotion to the animal comes before the sport and I have spent the past seventeen years learning as many methods and disciplines as I can from various coaches and trainers to develop my own unique approach. In doing a variety of mounted and groundwork activities I have given myself a well-rounded and exciting equine education and I now love to share my passion and my success with progressing and new equestrians.”
