While it is unlikely that it will reach our area; going into the off season of winter we will be enforcing more strict rules around biosecurity to limit the exposure of all contagions to our equine partners.
This includes:
Reducing traffic of non members
Enforcing changing of clothing and footwear that has been to other facilities
And not allowing horses or riders to the farm which have been out of the province and to another facility.
While we know many Nova Scotians travel out of province this time of year to compete in the sunshine states these policies are to ensure safety and heath of all animals.
Thank you!

For a third year in a row we have made our “I am thankful for” decorations for the barn. This year in the shape of trucks the students filled out what they are thankful for. Ponies topped the list but we also see mentions of family, friends, mentors and other things that make each individual happy.
This thanksgiving take a step back and ask yourself what are you thankful for?

I am so very tired so this post will be short and sweet but another long show day has come to a close and it would be impossible to make these happen without the incredible support of our team. Buttcrack of dawn until dark they are working on and off of the horses to make us successful. 2 riders weren’t even competing today and came from load to go to load home and stayed positive and helpful and busy the whole day through. I’m so proud of the riders who all had such successful rides and all of the ponies that put their heart in the sand for us. ❤️ blessed for another day in the ribbons

You won’t get it right the first time. You’re not supposed to.

But the only way to be great is to show up when you’re still terrible.

Progress comes from the courage to begin, not the perfection of the start.

Teenage Barn Drama: Zero Tolerance Policy in Effect 🚫

Let me be crystal clear about something: My barn is not a social experiment.

The drama I've witnessed:
- "She got to ride MY horse!" (it was a lesson horse!!)
- Cliques excluding other riders
- Gossip sessions in the tack room
- Mean girl behavior toward newer students
- Social media drama spilling into the barn

Here's my policy: One warning. Then you're out.

Why zero tolerance?
🐴 Horses feel tension - your drama stresses them out
🔒 Other students suffer - quiet kids quit because of your behavior
⏰ My time is valuable - I'm not a middle school counselor

After kicking a problem student out of my program, the mother said to me "But they're just teenagers!" Exactly. Which means this is the PERFECT time to learn that actions have consequences.

What I tell the teens: "You can have drama OR you can have horses. Pick one."
The result? My barn stays focused on horses and riding. Students actually learn. The good kids thrive without toxic energy around them.

Life's too short to manage teenage attitudes when there are horses to ride and skills to build.

Fellow instructors: Am I too harsh? How do you handle barn drama?

Horses deserve better than our human drama. So do the students who actually want to learn.
