Home-based kennel of Canadian Inuit Qimmiq. Recreational sled team and passionate Qimmiq breeder. We We strive to maintain the original purpose of the qimmiq.
To do this, one pup from every litter will be sent up north to live as a traditional working dog. In addition to maintaining the purpose of this beautiful breed, dogs will be started indoors, getting crate trained and house trained for those who love the breed but do not maintain traditional dog yards. We strive to see more qimmiq in family homes as partners in biking, skiing, hiking and home stea
ding. Qimmiq make for amazing backpack dogs and heavy haulers to bring in that fire wood. Qimmiq can also protect your remote home from bears and other large wildlife. These dogs are traditionally kept free roaming and make great off leash partners though they may wonder.

Unfortunately it looks like the 2024 mid-distance may not take place due to not enough attendees & with the lack of snow I'm not sure we would even have enough time to get in shape to attend. We will still enter a shorter class with less dogs but this brings me to our spring decision and I thought I would make a post now. We have decided to reduce the number of dogs we have in our home. We will keep them if there is no interest in either of our girls or keep either who are not the right fit for anyone else but we are posting both as possible options. Edited: Freska was posted but I'm happy to say she will be having a wonderful future at home with her human mom (breeder) and dog mom Taiga!

Wonderful morning in Caledonia. Had so many nice & friendly folks stop by to ask about our dogs. Make some new dog show friends & was proud of my husband Andrew Hurst who made his debut showing dogs today!
Next show is a large one. Christmas Pet Expo in Mississauga to finish the year and we have a suprise new member of our dog show team!

The sound of a happy boy. Haviks been off on an injury for the last week. We think either a sprained jaw or abscess behind the eye. Hes on day 2 of his meds after getting into the vet and hes looking much happier making half mouthed awoos.

Leader Training
Took Freska and Malik out to work on some leader training. Guest appearance from Grizzly who is the same size as Freska yet still not 5 months old lmao. NOTE: Quality is better after 5 minute mark

Heres a great example of being in control of two dogs who cant find pack balance among themselves. The little details: Malik was given couch time, Havik heard the commotion and entered. Malik growled, havik growl. I chose to tell Havik off and to leave the room. Because they both have fought and drawn blood multiple times, it doesnt matter that Malik wanted to claim the space. Hes a leader of his own pack and it is his time out. So Havik had to leave. If the roles were reversed, Malik would have to leave. Its forcing respect for each others space. Of course Havik couldnt leave without pushing the boundaries by taking more space in the room before leaving, and since Malik allowed it I did and Havik respected the result and left. If you as the handler have leadership over the pack, you can have this much control over two pack leaders living in the same space. (And only my high status amongst them allows me to control the situation with my voice alone)
