Our latest foster is ready to find a new home (Ontario only, west of Toronto preferred). Read her story and then please pass it along. She has come a long way from being stuck in a basement for the first part of her life but she needs someone who can give her both love and guidance to grow into a great canine companion. Lily is only partly housetrained but progressing every day - she just learned so well to use p*e pads that it will take time for her to fully transition.

Lily's story:

Lily spend the first six months of her life in a basement with a lot of other dogs when a nice rescue learned about them and organized a pickup by many different rescues. Lily is just going up for adoption as she has had her spay and is healing well. She's wearing a pink onesie to keep her stitches safe.

She's young and healthy but has a few quirks so please read this fully.

The challenge is she is not done learning how to be a great companion yet. Everything is new. Grass was really scary when she first arrived. She would just stay behind around her foster Mom's feet so it was hard to find her - anytime I turned around she moved too. After a few weeks she started to venture out into the world - running away and running back - we nick named her squirrel. There is a video of the first day she was brave enough to check out the yard.

Lily is not fully housetrained yet. She learned to use a p*e pad well and while she goes outside more and more she still thinks that pads are fine - especially if its cold or wet. At this point we take her out every time she heads for the p*e pad and most of the time she's fine, sometimes she just gets too distracted - by weather, by sticks, by a fun smell - and forgets why we went out in the first place. Definately a work in progress.

At first she just wanted to be sitting on someones lap and didn't even get off to eat but as she gets braver she now has the most amazing zoomies - racing around the house exploring everywhere and then racing back to her safe spot (beside me or someone in the family). She's going to need you to help her build her confidence but it really is fun watching her race about and play with her toys (there is a vide of this too).

She's not a fan of being left alone but does fine for a few hours at a time in her crate. She is a great companion for someone who works at home. I have a tiny bed that sits under my desk and that's where she is when I am on a call. Once in a while if their is a noise she might give a few barks but if you close the door she stops quickly.

She sleeps in a crate but wants to be able to see her people and when she is let out in the morning just explodes with joy - we have to wait 10 min or so for her to do her morning chores as she is just too excited to settle - but you will have a smile watching her exhuberance.

She looks to our other dogs to learn how to behave. One of her pictures shows her in the middle of two big labs. I was taking a picture of the labs when she jumped into the middle and posed with them. She eats with the big dogs (I put her kibble right besides so she doesn't try to share a bowl. Walks beside the big dogs, comes when I call the other dogs. Its adorable watching her tuck herself under a big dog or curl up beside one of the cats.

One quirk we are still working on is if she thinks someone is trying to catch her she runs - then when she is 15 feet away she runs back, any eye contact or movement at this point can send her yo yoing too and fro - but if you sit down and look away she'll pop right up beside you and then you can give her a pet or put on her collar or whatever you need. This is getting a lot better but at this point she is a flight risk so walking on leash means two (very light) leashes on both collar and harness. We do a lot of off leash playtime too in a fenced yard and she will need that from her new family too as leashed walks are still very new.

Lily is still learning about house manners - she tried to be the boss by sitting on top of people but after being resettled to the side undestands that she doesn't have to be "top dog". She growled a couple of times at the other dogs hoping to keep her humans to herself but again this was solved easily by putting her on the floor every time. She would love to share food with humans but since no one here lets her she's stopped trying. These are all very typical puppy behaviours that are showing up a bit later in life as living with people is all new.

She currently lives with 3 cats, 4 big dogs and 4 humans and gets along well with everyone. She has met a few other dogs and is cautious initially but soon warms up. With her anxiety she's likely not a good choice as a child's pet but older teens and supervised children should be fine.

If you are looking to make a difference in a dogs life. If you love Tigger but understand Eeyore too, if you want to add a bit of bounce and wiggle to an already interesting household then Lily might be a great fit.
