Just getting some enjoyable outdoors time before it gets too hot. These guys always crack me up stalking each other and then just playing like pups.
Remember dogs are susceptible to heat stroke just like people. Know the signs and keep your furry friends in mind with the coming heat. It can happen quick and is something I want none of you to have to deal with. The signs:
Early Symptoms:
Excessive Panting: Dogs pant to regulate their body temperature, but in heatstroke, panting becomes excessive and labored.
Rapid Breathing: Breathing rate increases significantly, potentially with a lot of effort.
Bright Red Gums and Tongue: The mucous membranes in the mouth may appear flushed or even bruised due to increased blood flow.
Drooling: Excessive salivation can be a sign of heatstroke.
Increased Heart Rate: The heart will beat faster to try and compensate for the overheating.
Restlessness or Agitation: The dog may appear uncomfortable and try to move to cooler places.
Lethargy or Weakness: As the condition progresses, the dog may become tired, sluggish, and weak.
Advanced Symptoms (Require Immediate Veterinary Attention):
Vomiting and/or Diarrhea: These can indicate severe distress and internal damage.
Confusion or Disorientation: The dog may appear dazed, stumble, or have difficulty walking.
Collapse or Seizures: These are signs of severe heatstroke and require emergency veterinary intervention.
Pale or Grey Gums: Pale gums can indicate shock and a serious lack of oxygen.
Unconsciousness: Loss of consciousness is a critical sign of heatstroke.
