Maple & Lilo, Mother & Daughter, both dogs had a family visit to Truscott Animal Hospital for skin issues. Maple for an ongoing infection for the last 12 months at her surgery site. Lilo for a skin infection by her toe (from licking). Both are now cone twins and in my male shift medical ward so no other dogs lick them.
*Benny Medical Update Post*
First let's start with how handsome this little sailor is 😍
Benny, now 1, went to OVC Cardiology on Aug 12th. His medical diagnosis is:
"Severe pulmonic stenosis, valvular with hypoplastic annulus. Secondary right ventricular concentric hypertrophy. Coronary artery anomalies."
Let's break this down as none of us are heart specialists:
1. Severe Pulmonic Stenosis, Valvular with Hypoplastic Annulus:
-Pulmonic Stenosis refers to a narrowing of the pulmonic valve, which is a valve in the heart that controls blood flow from the right side of the heart to the lungs.
-Valvular means the problem is with the valve itself.
-Hypoplastic Annulus means that the ring of tissue (the annulus) around the valve is smaller than normal. This can make the narrowing even more severe because the valve has less room to open.
So, in simpler terms, the valve that controls blood flow to the lungs is very tight and the ring around it is smaller than it should be, making it hard for blood to get through.
2. Secondary Right Ventricular Concentric Hypertrophy:
- Right Ventricularrefers to the right lower chamber of the heart, which pumps blood to the lungs.
- Concentric Hypertrophy means that the walls of this chamber have become thicker. This happens because the heart has to work harder to pump blood through the narrowed pulmonic valve.
In other words, because the valve is so tight, the heart muscle on that side has thickened as it tries to pump blood through the narrowed opening.
3. Coronary Artery Anomalies:
- Coronary Arteries are the blood vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle.
- Anomalies mean that these arteries are not in their normal position or are shaped differently than usual.
So, the blood vessels that supply the heart with blood might be in an unusual position or have an unusual shape, which can affect how well the heart gets blood.
In summary, this condition involves a very tight heart valve leading to the lungs, causing the heart muscle to thicken as it struggles to pump blood. Additionally, the blood vessels that supply the heart itself may be abnormal in shape and position.
Treatment: His medication Atenolol has been doubled to 50mg 2x a day. He will remain on his suppliments to support heart health. He will return to OVC in 6 months for another Echocardiogram and the findings can be compared to the last to see if any changes have occurred. There is no surgery that can help this.
In closing: Benny is still very adoptable. He is not a starter dog so he needs someone with bulldog experience and a dedication to training him. He needs to learn how to control excitement and use it properly. He needs someone who can dedicate at least one echocardiogram a year ($1000), I will pay for his next one in February. He needs a hero, someone who's heart is bigger than his. He needs someone who promises to give him the very best life as his may be shorter than others due to his heart condition. He needs to be taken care of, loved, trained, fed, medically managed.

Just finished up at Truscott Animal Hospital with our new intakes. They all recieved Nextguard, and mom was vaccinated and microchipped. Patches (Mom) and her 5 kittens now lovingly named:
1. Boots 0.71 kg Male (Orange White)
2. Garfield 0.77 kg Male (Orange)
3. Toby 0.67 kg Male (Tabby Brown)
4. Bandit 0.66 kg Male (Tabby Grey)
5. Pebbles 0.62 kg Female (Calico)
The kittens, 5 weeks old, were born July 10th and will be adoptable around Oct 1st. As always we prefer to adopt in pairs, there is alot of science that shows young kittens adopted together do better.
Mom will be Spayed and is not up for adoption, she will be returned to her previous home.
Today's visit was $487.98 and any donations towards this is greatly appreciated. We've spent $1500 this week and it's only Thursday.

Welcome these 5 kittens to 30SixPaws Animal Rescue. We are onroute home with them right now. They will go to their foster mom Cecilia Medeiros tomorrow after their vet visit at Truscott Animal Hospital. There were 6 kittens originally but one was either lost by the owner or met an unfortunate fate :( we also have mama cat and she will be Spayed and returned to the owner.

After all this time I am still very naive thinking that with extreme love, money, and care I can fix anything. While we may not be able to fix this, my heart will support his.

Shawn sadly lost his brother Brandon on July 30th, in Brandon's Honour the family requested donations in Lieu of flowers and raised $800 for the animals. Shawn, thank you so much, I am very moved by your gesture and my heart goes out to you immensely.
The Bone & Biscuit did two fundraiser this month, a nail trim day & a photo day, to raise funds for our animals. Collectively they raised $385 for us. In addition to funds Flora (shop owner) has donated food, treats, and other goodies for the dogs/cats.
I am moved by the way the community is supporting this rescue. Terri has a slate portrait fundraiser going on right now until the 15th and I've had a wonderful vet tech, Ashley, buy $300 worth of dog food for us.
This help is what keeps me going in more ways than one. Today these funds are going directly to OVC as I sit here waiting for the staff to return Benny the Bulldog to me.

She takes time to warm up to new people, but once she is familiar with you, she will allow gentle pets, and the occasional cuddle (kinda forced by her foster mom)
Tiny is fostered in Hamilton, currently living with her 2 siblings and her mother. She would do best with another young cat friend. She has some dog experience but not alot. Must be an indoor cat only.

Can you believe this is the same dog? .diesel Diesel has made huge waves in his health, body and mind, since coming into rescue. The right diet and medication can make a world of difference for anyone. Diesel is also blessed to have an incredible foster mom (Jessica), she is his saving grace, I'm so thankful and grateful for her.
Diesel is still up for adoption, as amazing as he looks now he still hasn't recieved a single adoption application. He has a new adoption post coming and I will need everyone's help to share him. For now can we marvel at how gorgeous he is 😍

She was found living under a trailer behind a youth detention centre, the staff called me and i took her into the rescue April 17th. When she got here it was found that Beans was pregnant. She gave birth to 3 beautiful babies on May 6th and has been the absolute best mama to them. Beans is very sweet and affectionate, she loves to be pet, and will demand attention with her adorable vocals. This sweet girl is a kitten at heart and loves to play, especially with the teaser wand and "tower of tracks" ball toy. She enjoys looking out the window and watching the birds, and hanging out in the cat tunnel, or cuddled in the cat tree with her babies 🤍.

Benny is very people friendly, he is brave, strong, loving, very alert and intelligent. He is very determined, playful, praise & food motivated, has puppy energy still but also loves a good nap. He overheats as bulldogs do, so he needs access to cool temperatures and an owner who knows when hot is too hot. Benny is an alert guardian, it is in the breed, read up on Olde English Bulldogs prior to applying.
Benny was an owner surrender due to his energy. Upon meeting him prior to intake we observed he was a wonderful sweet puppy who just had energy with no place to go, he wasnt walked and spent most of his days alone in the yard or garage. He went to a loving foster home who had young kids and other pets.
Upon having him neutered we accidently found a heart murmur which I had investigated via xray and echocardiogram, he was diagnosed with Pulmonic Stenosis. I had him referred to Ontario Veterinary College Cardiology in Guelph and his first appointment is August 12th. He is on Atenolol 25mg 2x a day & cardiovascular health suppliments for the time being.
After his neuter the dogs at the foster home attitude towards Benny changed and there were some altercations. Benny has some visible scaring on his neck, fur should grow back. Benny has been left with some reactivity issues due to the situations, preferring larger dogs to him. Proper introductions are key to Bennys success with other animals. He has made some wonderful dog friends who have helped him immensely. He is a bulldozer when it comes to play, so calm stable friendly dog would be best. Bennys leash skills need work, he is great alone but almost chokes himself on the martingale when another dog approaches. He will need a strong confident handler.

Diesel is doing phenomenal at his fosters. She is giving him all the love, attention, care and the ability to just be a dog. He needed this. I'm thankful for his foster mom. He was slated for euthanasia because of his allergies. They are being very well manages with hydrolyzed food, allergy medication, and bathes.

Another day, another dog. This is CC, she is another dog we've been involved with over the last 2 years to assist in her getting access to care.
These breeds often attract owners who want them for thier aesthetics or status, many don't realize the necessity of regular vet care, especially spay & neuter. After pyrometra and back to back heats this year we were finally able to convince the owner to allow us to spay her. There will be no babies for this girl. No more pyrometra or swelling during heats. I can rest a little easier today.
Her costs were $807 and a payment plan will be set up. CC will recover with us directly over the next 2 weeks.

10hrs later and still on-going and I can finally post to ask for help. 12am I was called about Oliver, 13 years old, severe signs of toxicity after eating very old compost. He was rushed to Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital of West Toronto and we called ASPCA poison control. He had tremors, fly bite seizures, couldn't walk properly and was given sedation, muscle relaxers, IV fluids and bloodwork. Unfortunately the need was Hospitalization and the estimate was in the many thousands. We cashed out at $ 1151.10 and rushed over in the downpour to Oakville to be admitted at Lakeshore Woods Animal Hospital. Being quoted for xrays, charcoal, IV management, possible more muscle relaxers/sedation and more.
**Update: Oliver released at 6pm. Total cost between 2 hospitals $2419.35, plus 15+ hours of time and one happy and alive dog.**
Oliver faced organ damage and brain damage if we didn't treat right away. This sweet senior guy deserves a chance, please help me give it to him.

It's been a minute since I've posted about Benny, it went from 2-3 posts/videos a day to silence. I'm happy to report that Benny has a foster home!!! His placement is perfect, and to be honest he secured it himself lol.
He is fostered in Port Credit Mississauga, on the lake, with his bestfriend Hudson downstairs, and his 6ft 5 foster dad. These two handsome guys are going to take over the town! Benny is already a local celebrity, getting stopped on walks and in stores.
Benny is living with no other animals but has daily play sessions with Hudson and has done amazing with the good dogs that he is meeting. I'm so proud of him.
While we wait for the OVC appointment on August 12th, I'll be reviewing any adoption interest/ applications that come through for Benny. I cannot formally adopt him out until I know what is going on in that big heart of his. He's sure made his way into mine and everyone he meets. Benny really is a good boy 💙
Today we had an unexpected rescue of an injured juvenile cottontail rabbit. Armed with a tshirt, slippery crocs and a donated crate we got this little babe and he/she was transported to Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge.
Please continue to donate crates to me as I need them for these matters. Also consider donating to our local wildlife centre's, there are not many of them left.

We have Kittens! They went to Truscott Animal Hospital for there first vaccines and dewormer. They are three healthy happy growing kittens. We are opening up to pre adoption interest + applications for our kittens, they will be ready to go home after thier 2nd vaccines at the end of July.

Sometimes you just need a pink sunset and your bestfriend to have the best day ever. As you can see here Benny has fallen in love with Hudson the red Heeler. I'm so thankful he has had this opportunity to overcome his fears. I've seen such an incredible transition in this dog in the last 8 days, I don't think I've ever seen a dog turn around so quickly ❤️

**Foster Found** Benny Male Neutered DOB July 28th, 2023, 10 months old 66lbs English Bulldog Mix Puppy energy and excitable Potty Trained Anxious Has separation anxiety. He knows basic commands Needs leash work, and help lowering excitement, redirecting mouthing to toys. He needs a foster close to Mississauga for his vetting so I can monitor his progress. Next medical appointment is June 12th at Truscott Animal Hospital for his Echocardiogram. Benny is a super sweet young dog who loves his people. ***DENZIE UPDATE*** Adopted March 30 2024 Our Denzie baby had plans today, and they kind of fell flat at the last minute. I believe everything happens for a reason and when I was done crying about it I drove to Ajax, picked up this boy from @mcmillan.mastiffs (Alyx don't watch this video, none of this happened, it's just a dream) and we went to @truscottanimalhospital for a weigh in and microchip. He weighs 61 lbs now!!! He is up 13lbs from 2 weeks ago! (Thank you, Alyx). After a @petsmart_port_credit trip for a toy and a @whimzeesus chew and a run around my yard, we took a drive back to Ajax. *** FOSTER NEEDED *** Diesel / Intact Male / 70lbs (underweight) Vaccinated against Rabies / recieved Nextguard - on Allergy Management Diesel needs a family (preferably foster to adopt) or a rescue placement. He is suspected to have allergies. Today he was given a cytopoint injection for allergies and we took bloodwork for a food / environment allergy test. He had a deep ear cleaning and went home with ear drops. He is underweight with a poor coat, he recieved a medicated derma bath (that he was a champ for) which should be repeated 2x a week and some hypoallergenic food with strict instructions to feed him nothing else than this and to up the feeding amount. We hope some answers and relief start to happen, this was step 1. Step 2 is he needs a family or a rescue. He needs someone with bully experience as he's a jumper and pulls on leash. He needs someone who can be diligent with his diet and keep him safe as he will eat ANYTHING if given the chance. He needs structure and a routine. He has shown zero aggression and allowed us to do everything today without sedation. He previously lived with multiple small children and was fine with Strangers and men. He is not good in the kennel, he cried and was stressed so the rescue should have fosters vs be kennel based. Not Dog or Cat tested.
