Talk about an amazing healthy treat for our babies
COD SKINS is top of our list.

They love them!!!

Why is cod great for dogs

Healthy source of Protein: If you look at the ingredients of your dog’s favorite food brands, you are likely to find fish. Why? Because most types of fish (albeit those that are safe for dogs) are believed to be a healthy source of protein and is often included in many commercial dog foods as alternative protein sources. If your dog is allergic to other sources of proteins like chicken, cod fish can be a good alternative.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Like other types of fish, cod fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to offer plenty of health benefits to dogs including decreasing inflammation, boosting heart and kidney health, boosting immune system, aiding brain development in puppies, and improving the dog’s ability to fight cancer. Cod has vitamins A and D, which are great for boosting the strength of bones and teeth in dogs, while also improving the quality of the skin and coat

Puppy schedule

Note: pups sleep most of the day when they first get home as they are growing and need lots of rest.

The walks can be replaced with just letting out to potty. The walks help as they tire them out as well as exercise them.

🌟this schedule is for someone who is home when first getting a new puppy which is always recommended. Instead of putting in crate for 8 hours while you work (not recommended)🌟

Morning 7:00 AM:
* Wake up and go outside
* Breakfast, offer water
* 10 minute play session
* 10 minute easy training (sits and downs)
* Send to crate - get yourself ready for day-COFFEE you will need it.

10:30
* Offer water
* 10 minute walk
* 10 minute play/training session
* Return to crate - do your laundry- and anything else that is piling up since you brought home a puppy lol

12:30 PM
* Lunch, offer water
* 10 minute walk
* 10 minute play/training session
* Return to crate - clean house- I mean clean up dog toys....And drink another coffee. Maybe 2

2:30 PM
* Offer water
* 10 minute walk
* Playtime 20 minutes - or treat toy
* Return to crate - get supper ready- not grilled cheese again. I mean a real supper haha.

5:30 PM
* Dinner, offer water
* 10 minute walk
* Station in place while dinner’s prepared - teaching place is so good for times like these. It’s hard but continue to put back in “place”. Which is not beside you with paws up on the counter lol - yes I’m talking to YOU

7:30 PM
* Last offer of water. Water cut off after this.
* 10 minute play session
* 10 minute walk
* Station in family room/living room - try to enjoy life with the family - without saying puppy’s name. Haha not really. But it’s relax time. The dog thinks different even tho you walked them all day they now want to zoom around the house. - take a chill pill or get up and play until you are so tired that you want to go to sleep.

Before bed 10:00 PM
* 10 minute walk
* Return to crate for bed or allow them to sleep with you like we do. They own the bed. I mean own it. It’s our dogs bed and we are just allowed to join. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Obviously, you have to be mildly insane to get a puppy.
They are a lot of work. Haha we are all crazy dog people!!

🌟oh and you are only a good owner when you have p**p bags in every jacket that you own🌟 lol

Tips and tricks

What to feed and how
🌟Feed large dog breed (if standard)
🌟Look for first ingredient to be a meat. (Not corn or meal
🌟follow bag recommendations for amounts
🌟split into 3 feedings per day
🌟hand feed every few days (more if you can). To help prevent any food possession
🌟hold bowl while feeding and put hands inside (as often as you can at first)
🌟increase amount of feedings per weight on bag as pup grows

How to clean ears
🌟use any ear cleaner from pet store
🌟soak on cotton pad (the makeup remover ones work best)
🌟clean ear well - we do this ever bath day

When to neuter
🌟if you want pup to grow the Max they can then wait until 1 year to neuter.
🌟if you want pup to calm down sooner then you can neither at age 6 months or up

Grooming tips and tricks
🌟you need 3 brushes
🌟 pin brush - use first to get out any little tangles
🌟slicker brush - helps get undercoat out ( you will have hair come out. This is not shedding. This is the hair that mats if left in)
🌟metal comb - last you should be able to comb through from skin to end of hair
🌟google line brushing. This is what we do to ensure no matting.
🌟start brushing the day you get them
🌟brush in same spot of the home so they get used to it. Consistency is key
🌟start at 5 minute sessions and slowly work up every week
🌟you can give them a kong with peanut butter to keep busy.
🌟make this a happy experience. Be happy and cheerful. Do not get upset no dog likes to be brushed at first.
🌟get a good detangler. We use cowboy magic and “the stuff”. Expensive but they work
🌟we bath every 3 weeks and use cowboy magic shampoo and conditioner as well

Keeping beard clean
🌟use filtered water
🌟make a paste with baking soda and water. Rub into beard. Let dry. Brush out
🌟We use stainless steel bowls. Why?
The easiest type of bowl to keep clean – and, not incidently, also the safest bowl for your dog to eat and drink from – is stainless steel. This material will not leach potentially dangerous chemicals into your dog's food and water, like some plastics, aluminum, poorly glazed pottery, or old ceramic dishes
If you do choose a ceramic bowl for your pup, take care that the glaze is free of lead. Stainless steel could be the most hygienic choice of all, being nearly impossible to break, and therefore less likely to collect bacteria in cracks or chips.

Guarding and possession
🌟with toys be sure you can grab them quickly from their mouth. Be happy when you do. Replace with a treat. This teaches them that taking things from their mouth is a good thing and not bad. So that you can get something they shouldn’t have from them. Especially if it’s dangerous.
🌟do the same when chewing a bone or something high value (this continues through their life to ensure no guarding or possession issues occur)

Nipping (sharkadoodle stage)
🌟we leash in our home when they are young (umbilical training) google it.
This way we can pull off with leash and ignore dog. Always replace with something they can chew then ignore until settled
🌟do not yell or give them any attention. Even negative attention is bad. This is what they want
🌟same goes for jumping. Pull off. Hold leash so they cannot jump up. Step on leash if you have to. Turn around and ignore.

Potty training
🌟we teach with bells. Every 30 min even if you think they don’t have to go bring to bell ring with their paw and say outside. Bring out and if uses potty treat. This is so easy and they pick up so quickly.

Crate training
🌟put in crate with stuffy and leave room for 5 min. Slowly increase do not leave home yet. Be happy and positive
🌟put in crate and leave home just outside for 5 min slowly increasing. This allows them to know it’s a good thing and you will be back. You cannot just put in crate and go to bed. You need to crate train first.
🌟always leave crate door open when home so they can go in on their own. This will eventually be a safe space for them.

Toys and chews
🌟we do not like rope toys as they can break off the rope. Swallow and it can cause major damage
🌟stuffies are great
🌟anything kong is tough
🌟antlers are great chews

Teething
🌟freeze washcloth and give them to chew
🌟freeze carrots (the big ones). This will keep them occupied for a while and help with the sore mouth

Exercise
🌟they require both physical (walks) and mental stimulation (training and mental games finding the treats)
🌟walk at least once a day start off small (10-15 min)
🌟fetch is a great way to burn off energy
🌟believe it or not training sessions tire their minds which tires them. Do sits and downs for 10 minutes a day you will see a difference
🌟if you have a backyard that has a fence then take out and throw a toy for them to get (before they have their shots to go out in public)

🌟if you have children. Get them involved with all of the training. Especially taking and replacing toys with treats as well as hand feeding them🌟

We teach bell training for potty.
Why?
Convenience and ease.

Sometimes a pup won’t cry to go outside. They don’t understand. By the time you realize they were by the door they have already had an accident.

Ringing a bell and teaching them that means outside helps with accidents.

How to:
From day 1. Take pup to bell and get them to ring with paws (pick up paw and hit bell)
Take them to bell BEFORE they have to go.
After eating. Drinking. Playing and napping right away go to bells.
Say outside. Be happy about it.
Let them out. Go out with them. When they p*e or p**p give a treat.

They will quickly learn this is where they should go potty.

Don’t wait.... the time will never be “just right”. Go get em. ❤️
