First week for Alfie (red collar boy) in his family!
Alfie is doing so well, we adore him! He’s eating well, sleeping soundly in his crate and nothing seems to bother him! Even the violent thunder storms we’ve had this week didn’t phase him!! Goes to show how important the work is that you do!!! Ty! … I’ll keep updating you on his progress… x
Now that puppies and mama have all gone to their families its gardening time at EcoHome Grown, growing as much organic veggies and fruits as possible to nourish ourselves and our dogs. With our dogs by our side, always part of our daily activities. 🥰

After watching puppies temperament evaluations they knew Red boy was their best match for their family needs, lifestyle and experience.
Because each family selected based on temperament, even the last family had the puppy they needed, everything falls exactly like it should be.
Mom was not there to meet him because father and daughter made her the surprise and brought the puppy home last night. Her and her daughter been in contact with us for over a year, and we are so happy that they finally brought home their EcoHome Grown F1 Standard Sheepadoodle. ❤️
Jasper had a blast running in the yard after dada cut the grass. 🤣

What does our Temperament Evaluations looks like?
It's important to mention that not all breeders who do temperament evaluations take them seriously. We did courses to perform the Empowered BAB Temperament Evaluations, it take a lot more time but it is so worth it because we get a lot more detailed information on the puppy temperament. There is different types of tests, some will just observe and note puppies personality traits and some perform Volhard Puppy Aptitude Testing, while any extra information regarding temperament is better than none, we find they don't give enough information.
We do crate introduction with puppies!
It helps make the transition easier and less stressful for them and their family!
We only close the door when they are tired, while we clean their space morning and evening, sometimes we do let them a little longer 30-60 mins if we see that they are relaxed enough to ensure they only have a good experience.
This means that most our puppies go home crate trained and sleep through the night. A few in each litter takes a little longer sometimes up to a week, usually we know ahead of time those who will need a little more training.
Full crate training more than one puppy would be very difficult and impossible for a breeder because each time they cry to go out potty they would wake up others as well. A never ending game.
Here they were all sleeping until I got up and started filming then they were seeing me started showing sign it was time to get out. Good job puppies! 👏
What it looks like first thing in the morning, they are calm (most of the time) and the space looks like this.
We are telling the truth when we say our young puppies are trained to potty in designated area, it start at 3 weeks and by 4-5 weeks old they do 100%. We still desinfect their space morning and evening but it’s not soiled. Good job puppies! 👏
All the training that we do helps families, because we want them to have the best experience raising one of our puppies. 🥰
Temperament Evaluations starts NOW! 😀
Temperament Evaluations are done in a room they have never been and with objects they never been exposed to. Temperament evaluations are not compared to other puppies in the litter or any other dogs or breeds, it is an assessment of how that specific puppy reacts to the test. We always start taking notes when puppies are 6 weeks old it helps us understand and confirm some traits.
Contrary to popular belief dog temperament is not all about how you raised them. Each puppy has different temperament traits some (they are born with and will not change) such as human assertiveness, motivation, energy level, prey drive, human focus and sensitivity to human emotions while some that are adjustable through (training and positive exposure) such as confidence, nerve strength/resiliency, touch tolerance, sound and sight sensitivity.
Choosing your puppy based on temperament will ensure you are prepared to meet their individual needs, required training and it reduces the chances of rehoming in the future.
We would like to take the opportunity to remind that there is NO perfect puppy. Perfect match. Perfect companion. Or fairy tale ending. EVERY single puppy will be a challenge in their own ways. Every puppy can encounter setbacks we cannot foresee. But temperament evaluations help families visualize how the puppy will fit into their lives and give them more information to consider when analyzing the pros and cons of the puppies available to them to select. And what the level of commitment it will take to meet the needs of a particular puppy.
For example, if a puppy shows low sound sensitivity in test, it doesn't mean they will NEVER react to all possible noises in the World, all puppies still need to keep being exposed and have positive experiences to ensure they keep being good with stimulus. But some will need more training and exposure than others. A low or medium energy dog doesn’t mean they won’t have periods of excitements they are still puppies, but it means that their daily activity level needs will be lower compared to a high energy dog, so once adult instead of requiring for example: daily 2 hours high exercise and training activities they may only need 30 mins or less per day. Also, please note that a lot of dogs are sensitive to their human energy levels, and can easily get excited by high pitch voice, if let jumping on furniture, running in the house and lack of overall structure, lack of daily exercise and training will increase the excitement and may be perceived as higher energy.

Wow what a special time for everyone to meet their beloved dog puppies. Sweet mama was so happy to see her family, show them her puppies, was very cuddly and playful! We were very happy to see puppies were confident meeting them and playing with children.

Why do we give puppies different challenges daily?
While it is great entertainment for them and everyone watching this, this is not why we are doing this. :)
But to raise confident, brave, fearless, intelligent, balanced dogs that display good nerve strength, learn great problem-solving skills and a positive association to learning and training. Puppies raised this way are easier to train and ready to take on what the world will bring to them as part of their families! ❤️

What is a Guardian Home:
A Guardian home is a person/family that agrees to care and raise a breeder’s dog. We created this program because we want all of our dogs to live their full lives of exploring, training and love in their forever family while remaining part of our breeding program. We absolutely love dogs and want them all to live their best dogs’ lives!
A guardian home program ensures the dog will never need to be rehomed when retired from breeding. Once the dog is retired, they are fixed and signed over to the family at no cost. The breeder is responsible for everything related to breeding. The family is responsible for caring for the dog as part of their family on a daily basis. For a female dog, the breeder brings the dog to their home for breeding for a week (if they live close to us, we can bring them back the same day). She goes back to the breeder’s home to give birth and care for her puppies, and returns to her family once puppies are ready to go home.
We are a responsible and ethical breeder with a small in-home breeding program raising healthiest, well exposed and balanced dogs following the Empowered BAB Program. We have great communication and relationship with our guardian homes, we are very grateful to have them as part of our EcoHome Grown Family!
We first select the dog based on but not limited to DNA genetic health results and their temperament evaluation; we are selective on the dogs we keep for our breeding program. We then perform a eye evaluation with ophthalmologist, Pennhip hips x-rays to evaluate for Hip Dysplasia and Osteoarthritis and perform a Cardiac evaluation. We send all the health testing to be certified with The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals!

Nova, 5 months old (Orange boy River x Stevie) is freshly washed and face trimmed. He's a big gorgeous boy weighing at 34lbs. Look at that long straight & fluffy coat. 😍 His family are doing a fabulous job! Orange boy was the most calm well behaved puppy in his litter (but he liked to climb on top of the puppies crates will never forget this😂) and he looks just like his mama. Such a sweet boy!

We are a team, husband and wife both passionate about dogs and raising them to their best potential! We love to gather and consider information at length before making decisions thus why we have such a high level of quality. We are both in engineering, which explains our attention to details that can be seen in the way we raise and breed our dogs. We are always looking for ways to improve ourselves and our breeding program.
While searching for our dogs family members we were alarmed how there were very little breeders doing health testing and temperament evaluations in the Maritime provinces, how there was a lack of educated breeders, transparency and quality customer service. First we started researching about breeding before adopting our first breeding prospect, River our F1 Standard Sheepadoodle summer 2019. We selected her from the litter based on her temperament using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test on Home Day. River was such a healthy, well balanced and easy to train puppy, she in fact trained our dog, at the time he was mischievous. She is the most perfect dog we could ask for our family, our best friend. We felt we needed to ''reproduce more of her'', give other families the opportunity to have such a great dog! Our experience raising her only supported our dream of having puppies. We started EcoHome Grown in the winter 2020-2021 and had our first litter of mini/moyen F1b Sheepadoodles in December 2021.
Throughout the years we researched, completed courses, and continued learning because we put our heart into our work and take the creation of your new dog, family member very seriously. We currently have four dogs as part of our family and breeding program, River a F1 Sheepadoodle (retired with us) and Jasper an Old English Sheepdog that are both our family dogs, Stevie a Moyen Poodle and Agate a Standard Poodle both live in such amazing Guardian Homes, families that we are very grateful to have as part of our EcoHome Grown family.
We have a small homestead, located on 9 acres of wooden land in Memramcook, New-Brunswick, where we raise our dogs and grow a lot of own organic food with the permaculture approach. We all live in our dream eco-home we designed and created together, a modern solar-powered Net Zero home "rated zero greenhouse gas emissions" designed using passive house standards from Germany. Our dogs are in the center of our lives, aside from raising empowered Sheepadoodles as a family, we love to learn, research and take courses, walk, train, take training classes, go on adventures, hiking, exploring, camping and homesteading always with our dogs by our side enjoying life together as a family.
🙌 Creating top of the line Sheepadoodles is our main focus. We follow breeding practices well above breeding standards. We raise puppies to their best potentials using proven practices developed by leading specialists to raise better dogs. 🙌
✨ First, we research, train and test our males and females to ensure that we have the best health and temperament before considering for breeding.
✨ From the day they are born our puppies are raised closed to us, close to our faces and hearts so they develop a strong connection to humans.
✨ We perform Early Neurological Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction to improve trainability, health and potential.
✨ Every day we perform ‘’puppy massages’’ that are 10-step handling exercises to ensure puppies are well exposed to being touched and handled by humans.
✨ We empower our puppies, with age-appropriate socialization and guide them through different types of activities in order to teach them to be brave and build confidence. They are challenged and worked daily to create intelligent, balanced dogs that display good nerve strength, learn great problem-solving skills and a positive association to learning and training. We raise all puppies as if they will all become service dogs.
✨ We perform temperament evaluations when puppies are 7.5 weeks old, it takes us a minimum of 16 hours of evaluations, reviews and writing notes, in order to identify each puppy strengths and weaknesses to honor our puppies, help with placing them in families where they will thrive and for each family to have the puppy that best suit their needs, experience and lifestyle.
✨ We remain responsible for all of the dogs adopted from us, give our adoptive families lifetime support, and share our knowledge to help and inspire to advocate for their dogs.

Now that they are 6 weeks old puppies moved into a little more advanced part of our socialization/exposure program from different environments, explorations, more overhead exposures, brain games, more movements (such as cart and car rides), baby pools, playing with respectful neutral dogs, etc.
🙌 All as part of raising fearless, brave puppies that will be easier to train and adapt to change in their lives. 🙌

✨Today’s exposure is rolling items and moving vaccum in their space.
We live in the woods and vaccum the house daily, here we finished with their space and their activity level didn’t change with the vaccuming. 👏
We imprint our puppies not to be afraid of noise and movement since the very beginning when their ears and eyes open!
Those with dogs in their life, especially herding dog breeds know how important noise and sight exposure is! These breeds have been originally bred to be sensitive for working purposes.
We don’t teach them to run after the vaccum or play with it, that wouldn’t be very productive cleaning 😂 but we teach puppies to tolerate those things that will be part of their lives.
