FAME Tournament Recap – September 6-7
FAME hosted a tournament on September 6-7. It took a while to put the whole weekend into words, and even then, I don’t think I can do it justice.
All our members worked together, with lots of preparation and organization. Our goal for this tournament was to have a raffle, some prizes, and a special award. It’s fair to say that we achieved this — and more!
First, our members rallied and successfully organized a raffle. A lot of work went into it, and we couldn’t have done it without our generous sponsors — thank you all!
Special thanks to:
The Oaks Vet, Silver Fox Veterinary, Cody’s Creations, Dog Bites, Global Pet Foods, Seaside Chevrolet, The Pantry, Oliver’s German Bakery, Ren’s Pets, PJ’s Canine Club, Serge Vienneau Woodwork, Stirling Fruit Farms, Inukshuk, The Bone & Biscuit, The Home Depot, Foxy Hounds Dog Collars, and Alex Kelly.
We also had treat packs for all the racing dogs from Lots O’ Paws Treats — and the dogs loved them!
Congratulations to Freddy Flyers for winning the dog donuts for having the biggest running time and winning their heat!
We also presented the Luke Memorial Award.
As many of you know, Luke was a border collie who struggled with having other dogs nearby. Despite that, he was able to complete full runs, had one of the best box turns, and we were in the process of slowly introducing other dogs into his space.
At our last tournament in April, he got the chance to do one solo run before the tournament began — his first and last tournament run. Sadly, he passed away not long after from cancer.
This award is for a dog who wasn’t the easiest to train, but whose owner clearly never gave up.
Congratulations to Christine and Mist from On My Go Flyball Club (OMG Flyball)! You both deserve this award, and we can’t wait to see your continued progress in the lanes.
A big shoutout as well to the other nominees: Vala, Lupin, Kite, Shermann, Jasper, and Sadie.
FAME entered two teams and they did great — lots of fun racing!
We also had many green dogs at various levels of training, and they’re progressing really well.
Thank you to all the clubs that joined us and made for some great racing!
And thank you to Carl, Jason, Kalip, Mike, and Monica for judging — we couldn’t host a tournament without you.
Now, we have a few months of training ahead before our next tournament in April. Hopefully, some of our up-and-coming dogs will be ready by then!
