What is the highlight of your dogs day? 🤔
If your answer is mealtime, or worse, you can’t answer the question, then you need to seriously consider your priorities with your dog.
Dog enrichment items have become super trendy, but I can promise you that your dog would much rather sniff and run in nature than to lick a piece of plastic for an hour.
Don’t get me wrong, dog puzzles, snufflemats, licky mats and slow feeders have their place with dogs who cannot exercise due to illness, injury or super bad weather. They are totally acceptable to use when your dog has to have the occasional boring day. However, they are absolutely not an acceptable replacement for daily exercise and mental stimulation.
Your dog deserves to have YOU be the treat dispensing puzzle. Your dog deserves YOU to take them out in the world to sniff new places. Your dog deserves YOU to interact and play with them. The benefit is a fulfilled dog and less plastic accessories to wash.

Coba has struggled with anxiety on his walks. Prior to training, was totally overwhelmed by the excitement of being outside and wouldn’t engage with his handler. He was prone to screaming in frustration, particularly while going back to the house, making walking seemingly impossible (and embarrassing!). Despite receiving puppy training, this dog didn’t know how to manage the leash tension or how to communicate with his handler.
That was then, this is now! Today Coba was not only able to lure for food (something he couldn’t do before) but he was also able to cross the street towards his home with engagement and without screaming 😱 He loves his walks and is so much happier. I’m so proud of his progress 🥹 His handler signed up for both in home lessons and walks with me, and now his future is so bright.
None of this would be possible without a dedicated handler. I truly appreciate when my clients take the information they learn and work hard to achieve results. As a team, we are able to change ANY dogs behaviour! These are the wins that make me love my job 🥰 Way to go Coba!

Often, I will have clients reach out to me and they confidently tell me that their dog “knows” obedience and is really well trained. I will then ask if their dog is capable of holding a one minute sit stay, with the handler at the end of a six foot leash, in downtown Kingston (busy area). Most of the time, the handler tells me that their dog could do that without distractions but would fail if a dog or person walks by. If you can’t rely on your dog to hold a command, then your dog doesn’t really understand the command. Charlie managed to hold his command, even with a dog barking at him (his biggest trigger) and we spent most of our session reinforcing his good behaviour with lots of treats. Little miss fluffy Shonna went home this week after an extensive board and train program. This adorable teenager was described as “feral” when she was dropped off and after tons of socialization and leash skills, I can happily say that she is completely civilized now, as well as off leash trained! She will always have a genetic wariness of humans but her owner now has all the tools to guide her through stressful situations and build on it. Really worked hard on this lady! Check out this momma and her squad of littles learning to walk beside a stroller. When Jessica first reached out to me, she had concerns about her newborn baby and her feisty crew of terriers. Six weeks into our eight week course, we have fixed all the major issues and are now fine tuning all the little details. Pack walk was an amazing success tonight. I’m so proud of these handlers (and their dogs) 🥹🥰
Everyone in this video (including me!) has struggled with their dogs reactivity.
Everyone (also me) has had moments where they felt defeated and lost their confidence.
Many of these handlers (myself included again!) worried about how their dogs would perform tonight… and all our doubts were silenced when our dogs performed like the well trained pups that they are 🥲
I’m very proud of the dogs tonight but I’ve even more pleased to see handlers overcoming their own confidence issues and finding friendships and common ground within the group. Great job everyone, looking forward to next week!

With the nice weather, seems like everyone is looking to walk their dog more 😍 ☀️
Sarah’s owner confessed to me today that walking has been such a struggle, that neither her or the dog was enjoying the experience. Sarah was getting so frustrated, she was even trying to run away to take herself for a walk! Since we had already done all of our Heeling prep work over the last few weeks of training, Sarah caught on pretty quick once we introduced a more effective tool to make walking easier. There is a proper progression for each tool and technique, and we are all pretty excited to see what the future holds now that walking is a lot more fun! Our next mission is to layer in some distractions and hopefully walk along the boardwalk within a few weeks. Great job team!!
