Hello from Shawna Gower with Moto-Vated Dog Training!

Hello everyone! It's been a hot minute since I last made a post or introduced myself here. We've had an incredibly busy summer season, and I'm thrilled to reconnect with all of you as we transition into fall.

About Me
My name is Shawna Gower, and I am a passionate positive reinforcement dog trainer based in Wheatley River PEI. My mission is to help you and your furry friend develop a harmonious relationship through compassionate training methods.

What We Offer
This fall, we're excited to offer a variety of training programs tailored to meet the needs of dogs at different life stages:

The Evolution of Dog Feeding

Recently, I was away from home for five days, leaving my dogs in the care of a trusted sitter. During this time, she made an observation that I found quite thought-provoking and worth sharing.

I have always been dedicated to providing my dogs with a raw food diet, supplemented with fresh vegetables, pumpkin, and various nutrients. This feeding regimen is certainly more intricate than the conventional approach, but it's a labor of love for my furry companions.

As I demonstrated the meal preparation to the dog sitter, she remarked, “So feeding a dog is not what it used to be—go to Walmart, buy a bag of kibble, and throw it in a bowl, hey?” Her comment highlighted a significant shift in how many people approach feeding their pets today. For my dogs, meals are much more than just kibble in a bowl.

The Convenience Culture
This difference in feeding practices is a reflection of broader societal trends. We have increasingly prioritized convenience over quality, often opting for ready-made or processed foods rather than preparing meals from scratch. This shift is evident not only in human diets but also in how we feed our pets.

Most commercially available foods are laden with sugars, carbohydrates, preservatives, and other unhealthy ingredients that are often difficult to pronounce, let alone understand. Unfortunately, dog food has not escaped this trend. The simplicity of scooping kibble into a bowl has become the norm, but at what cost?

Advocating for a Healthier Approach
The current state of affairs for the average dog’s diet is concerning. Convenience has overshadowed a holistic approach to nutrition, which is crucial for the well-being of our pets. While preparing fresh, nutritious meals requires more effort, the benefits are undeniable.

By taking the time to prepare balanced meals for our dogs, we ensure they receive the nutrients they need to thrive. More importantly, we show them the love and care they deserve. It's time we reconsider the convenience culture and embrace a healthier, more mindful approach to feeding our canine companions.

Puppy Playtime this morning

Cooper came out of his shell and Jax performed, made everyone laugh! Luca had a blast playing with everyone.

Luca and Rio had a blast with a little play session. Luca is nervous of people and Rio is nervous of dogs so both were helping each other gain some confidence!

If you do anything when you get a puppy it’s most important to socialize them! If you have questions please reach out! Here at Moto-Vated Dog Training we have all ages and stages of puppy training including socialization classes.

We had a great puppy playtime this morning! 4 littles well let’s be honest 3 littles and big 4 month old Rio.

A bit of a slow start but by the end of the hour we had PLAY! Way to go crew!!!

Big Wins for Little Hearts 🐾❤️

Today @ Moto-Vated Dog Training we had a socialization play date. Our two shy pups, Maisel and Ruby had their very first successful play date — and it was pure joy to watch. 🐶🐶

What started with cautious sniffs and nervous glances turned into tail wags, some ball chases, and some attempts at play 💕 These two are learning that the dog world — and each other — aren’t so scary after all.

Proud of these brave little buddies for stepping outside their comfort zones. Here’s to more happy tail wags and growing confidence! 🐕🐕‍🦺🌼
