Happy National Pet Dental Month! 🦷

Maintaining your pet’s dental health is essential, much like our own oral hygiene. Consistent at-home care, paired with regular veterinary check-ups for professional cleanings, can significantly contribute to your pet’s overall health and well-being.

Here are Some Pet Dental Fun Facts:

1. Dogs have 42 adult teeth, and cats have 30 (Humans typically have 32).
- An adult dog should have 42 teeth in total, 20 on top of their jaw and 22 on the bottom.

2. Puppies/kittens lose their baby teeth between 4-6 months of age.
- Puppies are born toothless until 2 to 3 weeks old. By 8 weeks, puppies have a full set of 28 baby teeth, which then start to fall out around 12 weeks.

3. Human toothpaste can be toxic to our pets
- Some human toothpastes contain high levels of sodium which may make your pet ill, while others may contain xylitol (artificial sweetener), which is toxic for dogs.

4. Dogs have about 1700 taste buds compared to humans who have about 9000!
- Like us, dogs can identify sweet, sour, salty, and bitter.

5. Human mouths have way more germs than pet’s mouths do.
- Dog mouths contain approximately 600 different germ species, compared to 615 and counting varieties in human mouths.
