I literally could not be more proud of this dog!!! She's had so many breakthroughs this week!!!
One of the biggest concerns Aloy came to me with was a straight up OBSESSION with cats. Her owners were quite worried they wouldn't be able to keep her with their two cats at home. Thankfully I have the world's most care free cat who thoroughly enjoys being a "helper" with the dogs! Through a bunch of management and engagement techniques, I was able to get Aloy to do this with the cat numerous times last night!
Seriously impressed with you this week kid. Can't wait to see what else you accomplish before you go home! 💚

As many of you know, my main passion and the reason I started training dogs is scent detection! So I'm going to start trying to throw the odd detection post out for those that are interested! Enjoy!
How often do you make your dog search? Not find hides, no no, just search.
Often, we get so caught up in how well our dog knows an odor and how well they find that odor that we forget: not indicating is just as important as indicating! In the video, I ask Astrid to search the living room. She thouroughly searches in and around all the spaces (I verbally praise her for this) and does a sweep around the whole room without indicating to anything (because there's nothing there). After we've gone over every area, I reward her the same as I would if she indicated to something correctly! Now why did I do this? Well because she still worked! She searched thouroughly and efficiently when asked and I was able to clear the area.
Searching blank areas is just as important as searching "hot" areas. If you want a dog that is always enthusiastic about the search, has good stamina, isn't easily discouraged and doesn't false alert... Practice those blank searches!
Interested in detection? Shoot me a message! 💚
