🚨❄️ Extreme Cold Warning ❄️🚨

Heads up, everyone! This week’s temperatures are dropping dangerously low, and I want to prioritize the safety of your furry friends. 🐾 If it’s not safe for your dog’s paws to hit the snow, I’ll either be shortening walks or canceling them altogether. Short walks will allow your pups to get some exercise and go to the bathroom safely. I’ll keep you all updated day by day as the weather develops.

In the meantime, here are some tips to keep your pets safe in extreme cold:
🐾 Limit outdoor time – Only take your dog out for short bathroom breaks.
🐾 Protect their paws – Use booties or paw balm to prevent cracking and frostbite.
🐾 Dress them warmly – Small, senior, or short-haired dogs benefit from a coat or sweater.
🐾 Stay dry – Wipe your dog’s paws and belly after being outside to remove snow, ice, and salt.
🐾 Watch for signs of discomfort – If your dog is shivering, lifting their paws, or showing signs of distress, it’s time to head back inside.

Attention Pet Owners: Cold Weather Alert Next Week! ❄️🐾

According to the forecast, Ontario is expected to experience extremely cold temperatures next week.

As a dedicated pet care provider, I will be taking extra precautions to ensure your dogs’ safety during walks, including:
• Monitoring Paw Health: Cold surfaces and salt can harm paw pads. I’ll be checking paws regularly and cleaning them after each walk.
• Limiting Outdoor Exposure: To prevent hypothermia and frostbite, I’ll keep outdoor time brief and ensure your dogs are adequately protected from the cold.

Tips for Pet Owners:
• Shorten Outdoor Time: Limit your dog’s time outside for potty breaks and consider indoor activities for exercise.
• Use Protective Gear: Dog booties and sweaters can provide additional warmth and protect against cold surfaces.
• Wipe Paws Clean: After outdoor time, wipe your dog’s paws to remove any ice, snow, or harmful chemicals.

Dog Park Etiquette 101: You’re On Your Own! 🐾

Dog parks are a great way for your pup to socialize and burn off energy, but with freedom comes responsibility! Here’s how to keep the experience safe and enjoyable for everyone:

🐕 Know Your Dog
• Is your dog comfortable around other dogs?
• Are they off-leash trained and responsive to recall commands?

🐾 Monitor Body Language
• Look for signs of stress, fear, or aggression (tail tucked, growling, tense posture).
• If your pup seems overwhelmed or is overwhelming others, take a break or leave.

👫 Be Respectful of Other Dogs and Owners
• Supervise your dog closely—this isn’t social hour for you!
• Pick up after your pup (always bring p**p bags 🧻).
• No toys or treats unless everyone is okay with it—it can trigger resource guarding.

⚠️ Safety First
• Avoid bringing dogs in heat, unvaccinated puppies, or those recovering from illness.
• Don’t let your dog bully or mount others—it’s not “just dogs being dogs.”
• If there’s a fight, stay calm and safely separate them using leashes or by distracting with noise.

💡 Consider Your Dog’s Personality
Not all dogs are dog park dogs—and that’s okay! Reactive, highly nervous, or overly dominant dogs may do better in controlled playdates or solo walks.

1️⃣ Paw Protection: Snow, ice, and salt can hurt sensitive paws! Check for cracks or irritation after walks and consider booties for extra protection. 🥾🐾

2️⃣ Limit Time Outside: Dogs can get cold just like us! I always shorten walks to what your pup can comfortably handle to prevent freezing paws or discomfort. 🕒❄️

3️⃣ Watch for Signs of Cold Stress: If your dog is shivering, lifting their paws, or slowing down, it’s time to head inside! 🚪🐕

4️⃣ Stay Visible: With shorter days, reflective gear is essential for safe walks in low light. 🌙✨
