Alright Dunrobin!

We are coming for you again! I’ll be doing my Canada Day ride July 1 into the village. Though, Hank will be staying home and I will be bringing Clooney (Sir Sparks A Lot) along for the ride!

Clooney has shown some great confidence throughout his training and will be testing the waters in his first community ride. These rides are important for training to desensitize the horses at competitions and life in general.

Feel free to say ‘Hi!’ but please approach slowly. Remember horses are prey animals so if you come up quickly or in a way they don’t see you… They may think you are a horse eating monster and spook!

We will be doing our standard route down Thomas Dolan to Porcupine, Crickett, Grasshopper, Galway and Dunrobin Rd. Timing will be most likely mid to late morning (I’m watching the weather radar and will pivot accordingly).

Right on cue. Miss Independent is our first customer in the raspberry patch testing out the forbidden berries!

She quickly realized there are other more rewarding things elsewhere on the farm. Painted wooden blocks that are stuck on the branches aren’t very tasty.

Small wins taste delicious! 🤞🏻 for a successful raspberry haul this year!

That’s what all those hungry berry eating birds think! In our berry bushes you’ll often see fake red berry looking items to trick those hungry buggers into thinking when the berries are ready that they are actually rocks they have pecked at all spring.

The days are long but we wouldn’t change them for the world.

There are no limits when it comes to keeping animals happy in the sweltering heat. Even running giant extension cords out to the tractors so our meatballs can have a fan.

I spy a new row of fruit!!

We added a new row of Haskap bushes! These plants have both female and male plants to help with pollination and the University of Saskatchewan has their very own breeding program for this plant. They are winter hardy and produce a berry that tastes between a raspberry and a blueberry. They make the tastiest jams or are great right off the bush!

By the time these lasses and fella grow, they will look like a full row like the raspberry patch beside them.

Farming is often the work of visionaries. Very few things happen overnight. Planning for the future is key!

While we wait for our patch strawberries, we just find some fresh wild strawberries in the pastures.

Many people say that wild strawberries don’t produce or produce small amounts. We are ok with having any sized snack along our travels through the field!

Luckily we got to these ones before the chickens did! It’s a real competition sometimes 😉
