I got started as a trainer by request. I helped a family raise their puppy, and when I was out on walks with him people would ask for my help based on his behaviour. I've worked with puppies, adolescents, and adult dogs, as well as rescues and reactive dogs. I welcome dogs of all ages and breeds. I've worked with dogs since the 90s and have always loved them.
I believe in treating each dog according to their needs, as well as respecting an owners beliefs. Primarily, I use positive reinforcement training, but I believe that dogs, like every being on the planet, need to have boundaries and limitations. Therefore I also use negative reinforcement, negative punishment, and positive punishment when appropriate.
Positive reinforcement is the classic example of saying "Sit" and giving the dog a treat for sitting.
Negative reinforcement is used a lot with reactive dogs, where you remove the unpleasant stimulus to influence the behaviour you want to see instead of the reactivity.
Positive punishment is the classic example of saying "No" and/or tugging the lead when the dog performs the wrong behaviour.
Negative punishment is removing a reward when the dog performs the wrong behaviour, like taking away a toy or stopping play.
