❗️🦊 Coyote Warning 🐶❗️on Tartan Drive beside Clarke Fields Park in front of the school. While walking the dog we came across this big guy, would definitely pose a danger to smaller/medium dogs. It’s a terrible picture but by the time we got closer to confirm it wasn’t a loose dog he started to show an interest in us so we decided to head back home just in case, definitely one of the larger ones we’ve seen!

Our first rescue spa day 😻

🐾We wanted to send an extra special thank you to Barrkhaven Pet Boutique & Spaw 💕

On Sunday a couple of staff members came in on their day off and volunteered their time to grooming some of our dogs in care. Our fosters could not say enough nice things about how the staff handled the puppers, the groomers were so patient and kind with all the dogs and some even came out smelling like blueberries. For most of the dogs it was their first time getting groomed and it was an amazing experience for them. Thank you Barrkhaven for giving our dogs a wonderful spa day

We are closed today as usual and tomorrow for Canada Day. If you haven’t had a chance, check out the festivities behind the store in the park. This is always a Barrhaven favourite and they need all our support to keep going! Happy Canada Day everyone! PLEASE KEEP PETS INSIDE CANADA DAY EVENING FROM 8PM UNTIL MORNING FOR THEIR SAFETY. This is the #1 day for pets being lost because of being spooked by loud noises and lights.

While we enjoy the sounds and the lights they can be very alarming to your pets! Canada Day is one of the highest days for pets going missing and is typically a time of high anxiety. We’ve had great feedback over the years of resolve calming treats and oils providing comfort during these stressful times. We sell out every year so please stop in ahead of the day itself! We have liver treats and oils in 200,600 and 1000 strength. The oils come in bacon, salmon and natural flavours. Stay safe everyone! 🥰🐶🇨🇦

We’ve partnered in the past with many rescues and have had the privilege of working with Sit With Me a few times before. They need our help now like never before! Any amount is appreciated! Our four legged community rely on these resources when their humans can’t or aren’t able to rise to the occasion. Regardless of the individual reasons, there is a need in the community for institutions like this and when we let them fall its animals who pay the price. Barrhaven will do its part as well, please watch for our donation event that we are working on putting together as we speak! Until then please give what you can to support this very worthy cause. Thank you!

This is not a post we wanted to write.

We are temporarily closing our intakes effective immediately, which means we can not take in any more dogs other than those we have already committed to.

For months, we’ve been looking at our finances and convincing ourselves that we can help one more.

We complete an adoption, and an open foster spot becomes available, and we think, sweet, we can help one more.

A generous donation comes in that is enough to cover a big vet bill, and we think, amazing, we can help one more.

A desperate plea comes in that breaks our hearts, and we think, absolutely we must... we have to help one more.

It’s day-to-day, and dog-to-dog, but we knew that we were getting closer and closer to acknowledging that we can't help one more - because if we do, we might not be able to help anymore at all.

And it is breaking our hearts.

No one can ever fully understand what it does to a rescuer when we turn away a deserving life because we just can’t afford the cost of “one more”. We face the difficult reality that, in some cases, the one more that we could not save, won’t make it. And until we can re-open intake, we will have some very sad times ahead. We need a bit of a miracle to continue to save lives, and we hope you can help us.

Once we are in a better financial position, we will absolutely re-open intake. We wish we could say exactly when, but this will entirely depend on donations and our fundraising success.

To our rescue, veterinary, and shelter partners, we remain committed to helping you. Please continue to reach out, as we will find ways to support you by networking and collaborating on solutions. We will always do our best to help save lives.
