👁️A corneal ulcer is a painful wound on the surface of your dog’s eye — and it can worsen very quickly.
❗️These ulcers can appear out of nowhere and are often caused by things like:
-A scratch or poke from a stick
-A piece of grit or grass seed
-Eyelid or eyelash problems
-Dry eye or eye infections
🐾 Common signs of an eye ulcer include:
-Red, bloodshot eye
-Squinting or holding the eye shut
-Excessive blinking or tearing
-Rubbing at the face or pawing at the eye
-Cloudiness or a visible spot on the eye
Short-nosed breeds like Pugs, Bulldogs, Boxers, and Shih Tzus are especially at risk because their eyes are more exposed.
💡 The good news? With prompt veterinary care, most ulcers heal quickly. But left untreated, they can lead to serious complications — even permanent eye damage or loss of the eye.
