It's here! It's here!!! I'm beyond excited to introduce to you our new product: DIY - Hooked Wool Saddle Pad KIT!

We have 9 wool colours available (if you would like a special colour please let me know and I will make it happen as there are over 48 to choose from). They are a single colour saddle pad (beginners kit) and come with enough wool, and supplies, to build a 32"x32"x2" pad with a bit extra 'just in case'.

Worked through our lovely winter snow squall last night and managed to finish up another custom Hooked Wool Saddle Pad. First one of 2025!

Measures 32"x32"x2". Colours are mauve, medium grey, and dyed black. This one is heading to Saskatchewan!

Some great information on sizing your cinches!

There are so many different opinions out there on where to place your cinch buckle. Many of those opinions have huge followings which leads to a lot of confusion.

This picture is taken from Rod Nikkels articles. This is where I tell people where their buckles should fall. Too low is not ok. 28” or shorter is not a must have. What happens if your horse has a larger circumference? Would you want a buckle in your armpit or on your elbow?

If you want to read more and expand your knowledge on cinch length these are two great reads. They are a little older but talk about anatomy and placement.

UPDATE: I will be working on writing up an instruction book over the next couple of weeks. Will likely do pre-orders for saddle pad kits closer to the end of January!

Working on a custom saddle pad (my helper said it's time to take a break 😂) and my brain has been running! So gonna throw this out there....

What's everyone's thoughts on a DIY saddle pad kit? It would come complete with the canvas, wool, some necessary tools, and suggestions on tools that I've picked up along the way but are not necessary, and instructions for a solid coloured 32"x32"x 2" pad.

I will only have a handful of kits in a few colours available, and will post here when they are ready to ship/pick up.

I will need some time to put together instructions and price out what the kit will cost. It will also come with coaching/ direction, when needed, from myself. I will share some of my techniques and what I found works best for me.

Comment below your thoughts and interest! Thank you in advance for all your input!

Next question: what colour(s) would you all prefer? Brown, black, medium grey, blue, green, purple, any I haven't mentioned?

Check out this custom tack set! It started out as a mohair cinch and breastcollar. Added in the hooked wool saddle pad.

Ended up having to increase the size of the saddle pad, so we disassembled and added 2" around the entire pad (please double and triple check sizing of all custom items prior to ordering as we will not be offering returns or resizing).

Next we added in a set of 7' neon pink split reins, a smaller cinch and a mohair wither strap.

Been crazy busy with no end in sight as of late! Kicking off the new year with mohair and wool, keeping the farm in order, trying to get a head start on my bookkeeping work and rolling into tax season in a month.... Custom orders will be limited and soon I will be dead to the world until May 2025.

As 2024 comes to a close, I look back at all the handmade gear I've had the pleasure to build in the year! 45+ cinches, 12 saddle pads, mohair breastcollars and English string girths. Yacht rope reins, Mecates, lead ropes. So many different twists to the regular rope halter, and all the time consuming braided tack!

I've been working on updating the website galleries the last couple of days. Added a reviews page (which has the option for you to leave a review, good or bad, as that is how we improve! Website link in comments.

It's been a fabulous year, which would not have not possible without all of you. So thank you all for your support! Your purchases of my gear, your reactions and comments, your reviews, it all makes a big difference and I am grateful for you all!
