It's no secret that the Volunteer Peterborough crew has a soft spot for animals. Whether it's cats making appearances on zoom calls, or puppies at exhibitions, we love our furry friends. It's why this testimonial from ElderDog Peterborough's Sarah Tousignant has us gratefully reaching for the tissue box today.

"Being a part of the Volunteer Peterborough program has been an incredible experience for our charity, ElderDog Peterborough. We have always faced challenges in recruiting volunteers, which has limited our ability to care for seniors with dogs. However, our involvement with Volunteer Peterborough has truly transformed our outreach efforts.

"Through the Volunteer Peterborough website, we gained substantial exposure that we previously struggled to achieve. This platform has connected us with dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of seniors and their beloved pets. The volunteer fair hosted this year was a particularly impactful event, providing us with the opportunity to showcase our mission and engage with the community on a personal level.

"As a result, we have seen a significant increase in the number of volunteers joining our cause. This influx of support has allowed us to expand our services and reach more seniors who need our assistance. Our program is now beginning to thrive, and we are more capable than ever of fulfilling our mission to improve the quality of life for seniors and their dogs.

"We are immensely grateful to Volunteer Peterborough for their unwavering support and for creating such an effective platform for charities like ours. Their efforts have made a tangible difference in our community, and we look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come."

Celebrating Peterborough Pawd's Volunteers 2024.

Rain didn't dampen the fun and camaraderie at our recent Volunteer Appreciation party held on July 10 at the Pawd Leaders home. It was a wonderful opportunity to welcome new Volunteers and to celebrate with the 'seasoned' Volunteers. Fellowship, food and draw prizes for everyone made for a great time. A heartfelt thanks to our Volunteers for all that you do each and everyday.
A special note of Thanks for the cake, snacks and drinks donated by Sarah Tousignant in Memory of her Dad, Fred, a former Dog Care Support Client. Many thanks Sarah and Fred.

Urgent! Evangeline needs a foster or adopter by Wednesday.

EVANGELINE
Due to unforeseen circumstances and through no fault of her own, Evangeline is once again looking for a new home (Foster or Adopter.)
Evangeline is a 6-year-old Malamute Samoyed. Her recent vet check showed she’s healthy. She is spayed and up-to-date on all her vaccinations and has been to the vet on a regular basis all of her life. She’s a perfect lady at the vet and doesn’t mind having her nails trimmed but she does not like to be brushed due to a bad experience at the groomers. She’s a big girl weighing approximately 110 lbs but with a proper diet and exercise, she has been losing weight.
She loves people and will greet you with a wagging tail. She does not jump on you or crowd you – she’s just happy to see you. She’s a very sweet, gentle dog who loves to nuzzle your hand and let you rub her ears. She needs someone strong and patient to work with her as she can be stubborn, a typical husky trait.
Evangeline bonds with her person very quickly and can be reactive to other dogs. She loves the water and car rides and adores her walks which is what she really needs to regain her girly figure.
We’re looking for someone who has experience with rescue/rehomed huskies. No other pets or small children due to her size. She would love a companion who is willing to spend the time providing the exercise she needs to get her back to a healthy weight and to scratch her ears in the evening while relaxing in front of the TV. A fenced in yard would be a bonus.

Evangeline is currently located in the Yarmouth, NS area. If you are interested in this beautiful girl, please contact Joyce at 519-865-4157 or email [email protected]

🙏 Looking for a special person(s) to help with Trixie 🐾
We are in dire need of a compassionate home for a disabled little dog. Trixie was placed in an ElderDog adopted home, but her owners are now unable to give her the care she now needs. As is our commitment to dogs we place, Trixie will be returned to ElderDog. Because of Trixie's health issues, we may not be immediately successful in finding her a new adoptive home. She may need fostering for an undetermined time frame.
All Trixie’s needs such as food, veterinary care will be covered by Elderdog. There is no cost to fosters. She is a tiny little purebred maltese. She weighs about 9 pounds and we believe she is about 10.5 years old.
Trixie loves to cuddle beside you. She is blind and is walking into walls and furniture as her blindness is new to her in the past few months. She will learn when in a home which can be only one level. No stairs. Trixie just had major dental work done and is a good eater. Since her surgery she has had accidents in the house and in her kennel at night. We’re not sure why but she will be seeing a new vet who can hopefully do some testing and find out the issue. It has been suggested she wear a doggy diaper if it’s a problem.

Trixie also has arthritis in her legs, which is very common for her size and breed. We will be putting her on a once per month shot of Librela to combat her issue. Apparently, this is a miracle drug for all animals suffering with hip/knee issues.
She is a loving little dog and could be a good companion to a caring person. You can be that person. A vet appointment will be set up on Monday to deal with the urinary issue and getting her a shot.
Please let us know if you are that person as this little girl needs immediate help.
