We made the wall

Aside from providing top quality long lasting microgreens, building relationships with our community through our customers is so rewarding and important to us.

Growing for Lisa and her great team at Black Honey Cafe has been a pleasure. Easy to work with and true supporters of what it means to support local food and Ptbo’s great number of local food producers.

Black Honey just turned 18 years old which is a huge feat for any business especially one in the restaurant industry. We’re lucky to have this cafe in our city and here’s to wishing and and @ blackhoneycatering continued success!

Smooth(ie) sailing

Halfway through the summer and the kids are still enjoying their summer. But, making snacks/lunches day after day as the hot sun blazes outside can be a bit of drag. Not to mention the groans of “another tuna sandwich, mom”. Well why not change it up with a kid friendly microgreen smoothie like the one our little guy pictured here is enjoying.

Here are a couple of simple recipes that’s been enjoyed in our household this summer:

Strawberry-banana-sunflower Smoothie (serves 2-3)
1 cup of sunflower microgreens from
2 cups of strawberries from
1.5 cups of unsweetened almond milk
1.5 bananas
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 scoop of protein powder (optional)

Or

Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie
1 cup of broccoli or speckled pea microgreens from
2 bananas
2 Tbsp of of almond butter
2 cups of unsweetened almond milk
4 Tbsp of cacao powder or chocolate chips
2 Tsp of cinnamon
1 scoop of protein powder (optional)

Blend these recipes and enjoy !

Sensational Barley Lentil Salad 🥗🌱

Salads don’t have to always be made with just greens.

Tried something different this past weekend and made a sprouted lentil and barley salad.

I used to wince at the thought of lentils. But what was I afraid of? The lentils were a nice conduit to creating a balanced and flavourful salad. A hearty and healthy grain salad topped with our own speckled pea microgreens of course! 🌱

Romaine-calm and microgreen on 🌱

I like a good romaine lettuce as part of a salad or in a wrap but let's face it the costs of this crispy, hydrating lettuce has done nothing but go up 📈

Enter our Farmer's Blend microgreens. This mix of sunflower, buckwheat, fava bean and green pea provides the crunch we like about romaine with some surprising cirtusy and hydrating tastes coming via the blend's buckwheat microgreens and sweet green pea shoots.

Micorgreens are greens but not lettuce greens so let's not get it twisted BUT our Farmer's Blend can be used as the base of your salad allowing you to substitute out the expensive romaine for some local, organic and affordable microgreens and shoots! 🌱

Not everything we grow is green 🌱

These attractive yellow shoots are popcorn🌽. Yup, that’s right popcorn shoots grown from corn kernels. These sweet flavoured shoots can be eaten fresh, added to salads, put on your favourite tacos or just added to your plated meal to make it look fancy and colourful. The coolest thing about popcorn shoots is they are grown completely in the dark!

Pasta, garlic, parmesan, mature broccoli and micro broccoli 🌱

The young edible leafy broccoli and it's mature vegetable version side-by-side in the same dish. Safe to say you can't go wrong with either type of vegetable as this dish tasted great (although the extra, extra parmesan never hurts a dish either)!

Pho and micros🍜 🌱

This is a delicious bowl of veggie pho from The red stemmed micros are our Ruby Red variety (ain't they pretty?).

Not that this bowl of pho needed any flavour enhancement but we did so anyway by adding radish micros because we like it's sweet peppery flavour.

This is a great microgreen example of “putting them on top” of a meal and how easy it is to make great food just that much greater!

Bread, plain cream cheese and arugula microgreens 🌱

Putting this slice of bread together took literally seconds. Adding the tangy and peppery flavour of the arugula made all the difference. This slice of bread was literally eaten in seconds too!
