My name is Lori Anne MacDonald, and I have loved animals my entire life. My excitement when I got my first pet fish as a child in the 80’s identically matches my enthusiasm over adopting my new puppy in the fall of 2019. However, there is one major downfall to loving animals as much as I do. When one crosses that Rainbow Bridge, it leaves a major feeling of emptiness in the soul.
Being in the pet and animal health industry my entire adult life, I’ve seen many people grieve the loss of their family pets and it never gets easier. My heart breaks for friends, family, and even strangers when they are at the point of losing their pets. I’ve felt helpless too many times to count as I watched many tear-filled faces leave appointment rooms, void of the animal they arrived with. I wanted to do something to make it a little bit easier. To ease the pain in MY soul as well as theirs.
My first Memorial Portrait was sketched in December 2014 for my Mom and Dad for Christmas. It was a portrait of their much loved dog Sasha, whom they lost too early due to a rare cancer. She was only 8 years old. I loved sketching that dog. So I did some more for coworkers. Then more for family. It was a Christmas full of tears and happiness. Memories of the good times. Not the last, haunting memory that people can’t help but hang on to. This one Christmas was the Spark of my passion.
The fuel to my fire was losing my dream job when the Doggy Daycare I worked for closed it’s doors. Up until then, I was only doing my Memorial Portraits for our clients, families and friends. Now that I have the experience and support to share my passion with you, I have started up my own company, Precious Art Works & Prints. I look forward to growing and changing with you.
