We raised $62 dollars in cookie sales for our short cookie fundraiser. That sounds pretty sweet to our horses! $62 buys us 2 bags of feed OR one bale of hay! Thanks for your support 🍪

It’s become a Tradition with Bozzy’s Mission that every new intake gets a new halter. I guess for them (and us) it signifies a new start, a new chapter in their life. The old halter goes to hang with all the other halters of horses we have helped start over ❤️

This fits Shy’s personality perfectly! Dainty, feminine and oh so cute!

Reminder there is still time left to purchase 50/50 for this month!

Shy, along with us here at Bozzy’s Mission would like to send a super big THANK YOU! 💜 to one of our supporters who donated what they had left of their old mats. We were able to completely cover Shy’s 12x11 stall floor and get her out of the muck.

Every tiny little bit helps. Even if you think we might not be able to use something, reach out to us!

It’s hard being a small, newer rescue, especially for such a large animal like horses. A lot still comes directly out of pocket. So when you purchase from our 50/50, volunteer or even donate things from stall mats to halters to old wood. We use everything and it’s so appreciated. We may not be able to help every single one but one by one we will make a difference ❤️
Thank you again to every single one of you who believe in us, who donate, share our posts. If I could squish everyone into a big bear hug I would 🤗

Shy is the funniest girl!

We have a soft spot for Standardbreds and why wouldn’t we! Kind, adaptable and full of personality! Here are some interesting facts about Standardbred horses:

1. Breed Purpose: Standardbreds are best known for their abilities in harness racing, either at a trot or a pace.

2. Name Origin: The breed gets its name because early Standardbred horses had to meet a specific speed standard in harness racing (a mile in 2 minutes and 30 seconds).

3. Appearance: They are medium-sized horses, typically standing between 14.1 to 16.2 hands high, with muscular builds, long bodies, and powerful hindquarters.

4. Temperament: Standardbreds are known for their calm, docile, and willing temperaments, making them great for various equestrian activities beyond racing.

5. Trotters vs. Pacers:
• Trotters move their legs in diagonal pairs (left front with right hind, and vice versa).
• Pacers move their legs in lateral pairs (left front with left hind, and right front with right hind). Pacers are more common in harness racing.

6. Origins: The breed was developed in North America during the 18th century, primarily influenced by the English Thoroughbred stallion Messenger and the American trotting horse Hambletonian 10.

7. Versatility: Beyond harness racing, Standardbreds excel in driving, trail riding, dressage, and even jumping. Retired racehorses are often retrained for these disciplines.

8. Durability: Known for their hardiness and stamina, they have strong, durable hooves and are less prone to injuries compared to some other breeds.

9. Color: Most Standardbreds are bay, but they can also be brown, black, chestnut, or gray. White markings are common but usually minimal.

10. Global Presence: While most associated with North America, Standardbreds are also popular in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand for racing and other uses.

Look who arrived today! Shytown Lightening “Shy” is a 20 year old standardbred. Once used as a broodmare, Shy produced 7 foals but is now going to enjoy a well deserved retirement from growing babies. She’s a sweet, quiet girl. Never made a peep while we did some last minute work on her stall.
Shy will be added to the care & compassion program, if you’re interested in making an equine friend.
Her adoptable information will be available in the new year. 💜

A Visit from the Dreaded “V-Word”

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we have to make that call we all dread — the Vet.

Over the past few weeks, Chance hasn’t quite been himself. Our once gentle, sweet boy — who wouldn’t hurt a fly — started kicking out if anyone got near his hindquarters. It was clear he was in pain, but we weren’t sure where it was coming from.

After an evaluation from the vet, we discovered that Chance’s sheath is extremely sensitive. While we have some answers, there’s more work to do. The vet will need to return soon to sedate him and take a closer look to get to the root of the problem. If you would like to help us offset the cost of today’s visit and his upcoming visit you can donate online at www.bozzysmission.org/donate we also accept email transfer or PayPal to [email protected]

We want Bug to get his Christmas wish! A forever home for the holidays and to help him achieve this we are waiving his adoption fee to an approved home only this includes a home check. Bug likes to feel free and does well on turnout with shelter but does like to come in at night. He is currently in an outdoor stall so he is free to check out what goes on around him! He’s a bit of a nosey posey 🤭

Why adopt from us:
We offer lifetime support to our adopters. In the case of a life change or ability to no longer provide care, we require that the horse be returned to us. There is no sale- giveaway allowed.

We stay in touch! From the first year to beyond, we check in to be sure all is going smoothly.

Our horses are up to date on vaccinations and medical care.
