It’s always nerve wracking when you’re thinking of adding a new dog to your pack. Never mind a puppy! Especially when your oldest is approaching double digit age, you don’t want to rock the boat too much and overwhelm your pet with so much change.

But again, somehow, we lucked out. When we rescued Bridget, it only took a few days for the boys to β€œget” that she was staying. But immediately, Bridget knew that she was home and quickly became confident and known as the β€œPrincess”.

Olsen and Bridget have mutual understanding of each other as the baby and the elder. It just works, Olsen knows he’s a big brother and Bridget knows she’s safe with him. That’s why she always sits on top of him - β€œyeah, that’s right, THIS is MY big brother, try me!”

Our household is a dichotomy - it’s full of energy and playfulness, yet it’s also a sleepy, nap-oriented home. I’m so grateful that the β€œgreat puppy addition” worked!

Do you let your doggies sleep with you?

Even though we share a king bed, it can sometimes feel like a single if all 3 of our beasties decide to sprawl, stretch and spread out! But still, there’s no place I’d rather be, than just beside them; warm, safe and happy.

Drop me a pic of your sleeping beauties! πŸ›ŒπŸ˜΄πŸ’€

πŸ“°πŸš¨Pet Parents! FINALLY! Read All About It!πŸš¨πŸ“°

What an AMAZING (albeit overdue) surprise! Under changes to family law in B.C., Premier David Eby said Monday that pets will no longer be considered property but will be treated as special members of the family, just like children. He said these changes came from feedback they received from people who have been through the family court system. The courts will now have to consider which pet parent is best suited financially, situationally to care for it, which pet parent the pet is more bonded to, and so on. Pets were NEVER property - they’ve ALWAYS been FAMILY!

Do you have any insights or comments?!
Leave them down below! ⬇️

Wow! I can’t believe over a month has passed since I last posted. As you all probably know (and never even experienced) - A LOT can happen in one month! Unfortunately I was sick and off work for most of November and the beginning of December. It took A LOT of rest in order to recover from my merciless bout of double pneumonia. It truly was a nightmare situation. It really changes your perspective and your outlook; when it comes to valuing your personal health and wellness. But I’m *finally* back into the swing of things!

And to our surprise, Christmas came a little early for our family… AAAAND IT’S A GIRRRRLLLL! Introducing the newest member to our whacky pack, Bridget! She is an 8 month old, 30lb Treeing Tennessee Brindle. (What a mouthful, eh). Not only is Bridget uniquely beautiful, but she’s a brave little spitfire, who is so eager to learn and be loved. Just as I always preach to others, we ultimately chose to adopt and our home had to really dig in and educate ourselves on her rare breed - her temperament, characteristics, etc. and just how to best interact with her (so that we can train her appropriately). And SPOILER ALERRRRRT! She’s already proven herself to be quite intelligent and scrappy, as well as, a real fun little sister to Olsen and Dozer. She will *literally* sit on their heads and playfully fight them, who by the way, each of them easily has 75-90lbs on her. So naturally, Bridget self-appointed herself to β€œPrincess of the castle” status. Although short, it has already been a lovely ride all together and it’ll be a fun journey watching her grow into herself, as a confident, social and well-loved canine.

I will touch base once more before the New Year, but I sincerely hope *with my whole heart* that all of you reading this, have the most wonderful pre-Christmas weekend! Stay safe friends. Now here’s some (brag) photos of our precious girl, Bridget and her big brudders!

PS: my 2024 books will *officially* be open on Boxing Day! I can’t wait to hear from you and see both you and your fur babies in the New Year!

Hi pet parents! It’s been a little while since I’ve posted. HI, I’VE MISSED YOU! Tonight, I came across this interesting post on how our smart technology can affect our furry family. Oddly enough, I’ve been a victim of the same. I have an electric toothbrush and when I put the brush head in the UV sanitizer and turn it on - a high pitched hum/drone/squeal sounds and I swear, it’s close to torture. So just ensure you’re taking into consideration *everything* - like their diet, allergies, environment - when/if your pets starts to act abnormal.

Stay safe, stay hydrated and stay healthy. β™₯️🐾

PSA: We adopted our dog, Rowdy, from the shelter 5 years ago. He was already an adult dog, so we estimate he is about 11 or 12 years old at this point. I love this dog. He is the sweetest soul and my BFF. For the past week or so he hasn’t been acting like himself. He licked a raw spot on his foot. He was panting constantly. He was pacing. Sunday morning, the pacing and panting got so bad, and I was REALLY nervous that there was something seriously wrong with him. For 45 minutes, he panted like crazy and constantly paced back and forth. He was keeping his tail tucked down all the time. His ears were pinned back. He would not settle down and he wouldn’t eat. We tried everything. I ended up giving him a trazadone that he takes sometimes when he goes to the groomer. It seemed to take a little bit of the edge off, but not much. He still wouldn’t eat and still wouldn’t settle. I took off work on Monday so I could take him to the vet. We did bloodwork and x-rays. Knowing he is a senior dog, I was trying to prepare myself for the worst case scenario. I was glad to see his bloodwork was great except for some elevated liver enzymes. The x-rays showed he was a little backed up but no major issues. He got an anti-nausea injection and some Gabapentin to help with some tenderness in his back and to hopefully help keep him calm. When we got home, he was ok for a little bit, but eventually started pacing and panting again. We walked around the neighborhood for a long time and he used the bathroom a lot. He seemed pretty happy about that and was in good spirits until we got home and he refused to come back in the house. Every time I took him out that evening, he would hunker down like he didn’t want to come back in the house. When my vet called and I gave her the update, she suggested there may be some new electronic device in the house that was emitting a high frequency noise that is hurting his ears. We had just put new smart outlets in the house about a week ago. His pacing and panting were worse when the lamps were on, so I unplugged all the smart outlets. He stopped panting, stopped pacing, and ate his food. His tail was even up and wagging again. When I plugged the smart outlets all back in and asked Alexa to turn on the lamps, he immediately started panting and pacing again. My husband used an app to test the frequency of the smart outlets. It was off the charts. We've left the outlets unplugged for two days and have confirmed that it is definitely the smart outlets that are causing his stress and discomfort. He's back to being a totally normal dog now. I really thought this was the end for Rowdy based on the way he was acting. I am so thankful for Dr. Newell at BoonesCreek AnimalHospital for figuring out this simple solution. If your pets are exhibiting similar symptoms, you may want to consider checking your electronics first. I cannot express how relieved I am that he is ok now. 😭β™₯️🐢

‼️Attention: shift workers, first responders, camp staff, et al..‼️

I just finished a brief overnight stay with this GORGEOUS puppy (and his very handsome older brother) and to say β€œit was easy-peasy”, would be an understatement. Their Mum had an excellent handle on their training and it was sooo easy to continue it in her absence! This is just a great, brief little reminder of what I do; I am often able to take last minute sitting requests AND I promise continuity with your pets schedule and training goals! Even with 30ish hours notice, this little guy’s Mum and I were still able to complete our meet and greet to ensure everyone (especially the dogs) was cool and calm with each other’s presence. There is no extra charge (!!) with it being a short notice stay, our intake/agreement is thorough and I am happy to take on any little extra duties while you’re away (water plants, help with kids/baby laundry, etc) - kind of anything to make your life a little easier for when you return! When I say I’m the β€œall-inclusive petsitter”, it’s REALLY true! And wow, I think I may petsit some of the most modelesque dogs in Prince George - give it up for the beautiful blond baby boy himself, this is β€œKevin”!

So when in doubt, give me a shout! Email, text, phone call, Facebook Messenger - whatever YOU like.

I don’t know about you but the days and seasons feel like they’re just racing by! It reminds me of one of my favourite sayings: β€œall our sweetest hours fly fastest”. The quintessential β€œtime flies by when you’re having fun” proves TRUE time and time again. And that’s truly what happens during my bookings with your pets! Not only are they friendly and photogenic, but they all each have separate and unique quirks that leaves me wanting more and more time with them! Not only can I NOT believe it’s already the middle of September - I also can’t believe that I only have A FEW SELECT DATES AND WEEKENDS REMAINING IN 2023!! You guys did this!! You guys put your faith and trust in me to care for your home and your fur babies and I couldn’t be more flattered and grateful.

PS: Can I let you in on a little secret?! I’ve *actually* started gearing up to provide y’all with some really fun and exciting giveaways, since the holiday season is rrrrright around the corner! So stay tuned!

PSS: my books for 2024 are NOT open as of yet. I will post when I’m ready to receive and confirm meet and greets and bookings for the new year! In 2024, I would enjoy taking a lil’ holiday - as I’ve not had one since pre-COVID! I’m talking like, 4 years now so I think I’m ready.

Anyways, if any of the dates outlined below speak to you - please give me a shout! There is *some* flexibility so book sooner than later! Much appreciated!

Which means, 4 more weeks of time-off, vacations, staycations, camping, lake days & BBQ’s. For me, it means 4 more weeks meeting new K9 friends (& their humans). These are just some of my newest, bestest buds! They’ve ALL taught me something new & together, we’ve ALL had the bestest time.

When you hire a house/dogsitter (me) to stay in YOUR home - you basically get a live-in β€œnanny” (me) who is LITERALLY dedicated to your pets for the duration of your time away. This means one-on-one time doing their favourite things, in an environment where they feel their best (& the most comfortable), with a caregiver who has 10+ years worth of hand-on experience & is certified in canine first-aid.

Send me a message absolutely anytime; give me a text, or an email! If you have any questions, just want to bounce your ideas or plans off me - all of my contact information is located above!

β˜€οΈAttn: Sunshine & Summer Enthusiastsβ˜€οΈ

With the warm weather we’re having currently - with MORE on the way - it’s important to keep your doggos cool, calm and comfortable. Nowadays, there’s loads of fun, unique options to take advantage of! Today I’ll show you a little frozen treat that my boys LOVE and will also keep them cool, happy (and occupied).

These are LickiMats! They are non-toxic, human-grade, grooved rubber mats that encourages the act of licking. They range in price anywhere from $9.99 to $22.99, depending on the size and brand! LickiMat’s have unique patterns and textured surfaces that create a β€œgrazing maze”. Because of said β€œgrazing maze”, while they’re licking, their mouth produces more saliva - which can protect their teeth and gums AND (!!) assists with freshening their breath. And not only do LickiMats enrich the β€œyummy treat experience”, they are also boredom busting, anxiety-reducing and ultimately boosts your doggo’s overall well-being.

You can fill the textured surfaces with all sorts of fun, yummy and nutritious ingredients and toppings. You can even tailor the ingredients to suit some need your pet may have. Some toppings I’ve used in the past - that are HIGHLY desirable by my own boys - are wet dog food, minced meats, canned fish, pumpkin purΓ©e, smooshed up overripe strawberries, blueberries, leftover mashed potatoes, smashed carrots, and even beef/vegetable/bone broth (just let it set in the freezer)!

This time, I spread a little bit of natural peanut butter, some coconut oil and yogurt on the mat. I popped it into the freezer for about 30 minutes, brought them outside on the lawn and let them go to town! As always, with most doggy things, please ensure there is an ample supply of fresh, cool water and I would encourage some level of supervision (just so they don’t chew and swallow pieces of the mat)! With such an easy way to distract your pups while you’re puttering around the yard, spread your own mix of toppings and give it a whirl! Your furry babe will LOVE you!

You can find these great mats (and other great pet finds) over at 4 Paws Pure on 15th and Central.

Happy Thursday! 🐾 β˜€οΈ πŸ‘… 🫐 πŸ’― 🧊

πŸ—£οΈπŸ—£οΈ PS: If you’re still in need of a summertime housesitter and/or petsitter, I’m your girl! Overnight stays, drop-in’s, weekend stays, dog walks, long-term stays; I’m all about it. Drop me a DM and let’s chat anytime!
