Holly, mistletoe, chocolate⊠what do these all have in common? Other than the fact that they often find their way into our holiday traditions, each one of these items is toxic to our pets. Keep your pets out of the vetâs by keeping them away from these potentially poisonous items that are much more common this time of year.
Chocolate. Any form of chocolate can cause a slew of issues including gastrointestinal, cardiac, and neurological, but dark and baking chocolate contain the highest concentration of toxins.
Holiday plants. Lilies, holly, and mistletoe are all toxic to our pets when eaten. Plus, some plants are treated with pesticides and fertilizers that could cause harm to our furry friends.
Medications. This is a hectic time of year, and while most of us know to keep our medication out of the reach of our pets, itâs important to remember to make sure weâre keeping up on it during this busy time of year.
Miscellaneous goodies. The holidays are full of delicious treats for humans and pets, but not all human treats are good for our furry family members. Aside from chocolate, there are several other foods to watch out for; grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, and anything containing the sugar substitute, xylitol.
