Thought we’d share some of the beautiful blasts from our last IVF cycle.
This particular donor outperformed all freezing 32 embryos out of 45 collected with a blastocyst rate of 71%!

Let's talk about in-vitro fertilization!

There are two methods of producing embryos in cattle, IVF is the method where we combine egg and s***m in the petri dish.

Powerhouse Embryonics is proud to offer this service in-house in Provost, Alberta! This means the collection from donor cows, (also known as o**m pick-up or OPU) is done at our facilities in Provost, as well as all the laboratory work. We are excited to offer this advanced reproductive technology to local producers!

Some of the advantages of in-vitro fertilization include:
- Collections from pregnant donors. IVF allows you to keep your donor in production while also producing embryos.
- Utilization of rare or expensive semen through pooling oocytes. One straw of conventional semen may be used to fertilize more than one donor's oocytes.
- Shorter collection intervals. Donors may be collected for IVF with shorter time intervals between collections and postpartum.

It's been a minute, so we thought we'd reintroduce ourselves!

Powerhouse Embryonics is a bovine reproductive clinic located in Provost, Alberta. Our mission is to offer assisted reproductive technologies to local cattle producers as a means of helping them reach their genetic goals.

We have recently updated our offered services, so please take a look! All in-vitro fertilization is performed in house in Provost. Artificial insemination is now offered in clinic or on farm.

Powerhouse Embryonics is hiring!

We are looking for the right person to join our team as a Bovine Embryo Technician! This is a part-time position with the opportunity to grow into a full-time position in the future.

Duties include:

• Follow standard operating procedures for in-vitro fertilization including:
• Plate preparation
• Oocyte collection and maturation
• Semen processing
• Embryo culture
• Embryo grading
• Loading and freezing of embryos
• Data collection and record keeping
• Collaborate with other team members
• Communicate with clients
• Clean and sterilize equipment according to standard operating procedures
• Maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Assist veterinarian chute-side with embryo transfer, conventional flushing, and o**m pick-up
• Maintain inventory of supplies

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in reproductive biology, animal science or related field is preferred
• Past experience handling/working with cattle is considered an asset
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy
• Strong problem solving and communication skills, and a willingness to be part of a team
• Excellent fine motor skills
