Afternoon Training Session with Louie 🐾

Working on place/not jumping when I enter the house, regaining focus and not pulling on walks. We passed a Reactive Dog with little to no Reactivity back 🐕

Reactivity does not only mean barking, or growling. Reactive is also getting overly excited, overstimulation due to wanting to meet the dog and pulling towards other dogs ☺️

He is a HUGE ball of ENERGY 🔋

Everything he does, is done at 180%. Including... DESTRUCTION when he's under stimulated/bored.

I know I have mentioned researching breeds many times, but we're going to go over it again 🐕

While researching a breed does not guarantee your dog will have that exact temperament, energy levels, or physical capabilities. It is absolutely a great place to start! This gives you a general idea of what you can expect your day to day life to consist of. Example: amount of time per day for training, physical needs that NEED to be met, common behavioral issues, what they were genetical bred to do and how to fulfill that, what their healthy weight is, etc.

Kuzco is two different types of herding breeds, he needs minimum 1 hour of training, brain games/mental enrichment for his meals, and three to four walks or one hike that is over 5 km per day. That's the BARE MINIMUM. Otherwise, he will give himself a job and he chooses destruction. He is not a breed that I would recommend to most people, due to the amount of time in a day that needs to be given to fulfill his needs.

I have talked clients out of getting puppies, certain breeds, a second or third dog. This was after we sat down and went over what their schedule is now, what the breed they want will need (especially during the puppy stage), what their current dog already needs, their lifestyle, etc.

When researching, be honest with yourself if you can set aside the allotted time your companion will need from you 🐾 not every breed is for every person, sometimes right now isnt the right time for a puppy, AND THAT'S OKAY 🖤

Loose leash waking is just as crucial as attaining a consistent and strong heel. Letting your 4 legged companion explore their environment, without pulling you off of your feet 🐾 This not only gives your dog the freedom they need and want, but gives you a multifaceted training structure to fit every environment! Sniffing is a great way for your pup to self regulate and relieve stress, and/or built up tension/anxiety. I've met lots of dogs that have an amazing heel, but once they are freed out the pulling is next level. Having a well rounded training style can prevent this 🐕 Miss Tally has come a long way since I first met her, and I couldn't be more proud of her 🥹🐾🐕

Daphne had her training blended into the pack hike we did today! Using her friends as distractions, to help with her focus and engagement 🐾🐕

Daphne went for her first training session inside a store today 🥹 Lots of stimulation - new smells, people, sounds and plenty of distractions training around temptations like dog toys and treats 🐾🐕 So proud of her!

Daphne hard at work with her new training tool! 😊 It's like night and day! She had been working really hard on her impulse control, dragging towards other dogs and people she wants to see, and heeling while remaining neutral to her environment 🐾🐕

Utilizing equipment to give yourself a visual for commands, movements and forcing yourself to be unpredictable when implementing HEELING; IS GENIUS! I've been utilizing this agility set a lot over the last week, trying to find ways to give the clients (and myself) more visual aids when training. River, showing off his skills! 🐾

Daphne has started her 3 Week Obedience Board and Train Program 🐕🐾 Today we started by working on remaining calm and neutral to multiple different scenarios - Place while opening the door to teach threshold, staying calm and not bolting out of the crate when the door is opened, as well as an "Off Switch". She is doing well for her first day, cannot wait to see her progress 😊

Gus had his last training session this morning 🐾🐕 Tomorrow, we start teaching his guardian how to implement and maintain what he has learned! 👏

Gus is ABSOLUTELY crushing his Board & Train! 🐾🐶 Look at him go with so much SLACK in that leash 👏 choosing to be in a Heel, keeping focused on the task and not getting distracted by people and dogs walking by. PHENOMENAL 🎉

River did amazing with walking on the sidewalk throughout Parksville, passing dogs, people and a lot of cars passing by 👏🐾
