This is a great reminder about frostbite with the extreme weather many are experiencing.

Take note this is in Fahrenheit!
-40 is where Celsius and Fahrenheit meet though!

We hope everyone is staying warm out there 🐾

❄️ It’s going to be extra chilly! Some great signs and symptoms to watch for! 🐾

Frostbite in dogs - what to watch for:

SKIN TURNING BLUE
One of the most common signs (and first signs) of frostbite in dogs, and in humans as well, is the skin turning blue. It may also look slightly gray with a blue tinge.

If your dog has long hair, you may not be able to see her skin very well, so you should part her fur in several locations and check for this sign of frostbite if you suspect she may be suffering from this condition.

COLD TO THE TOUCH
Since the skin will be damaged from the cold if frostbite occurs, your dog’s skin temperature will drop significantly as well. This means the skin will remain cold to the touch, and will seem much colder than it should normally after your dog has been outdoors in cooler weather.

Check your dog’s skin in various locations to see how cold it feels. Does it warm up quickly when you touch it, or does it remain cold for a long time, even with the presence of your body heat? These are all important factors to consider when trying to determine if your dog has frostbite.

PAIN AND SWELLING
As the tissue in your dog’s skin freezes from exposure to extreme cold or long periods of cold temperatures, it will become swollen due to this process. The swelling may be mild, and could be hard to notice; on the other hand, it could become very extreme in some instances.

This frozen skin will also feel very painful to the touch. If your dog shows some of the other symptoms listed here and also cries in pain or becomes aggressive or defensive when you try to touch her skin, this is a good indicator that she is dealing with frostbite.

BLISTERS
Since the skin is freezing and the tissue is become severely damaged when frostbite occurs, this often leads to blistering or ulceration of the affected areas. If you notice large blisters where there were previously none and your dog is very cold to the touch, this may mean she is dealing with frostbite.

BLACKENED SKIN
The longer skin is exposed to cold and extreme temperatures, the more tissue will die. When enough tissue has died, the skin will stop looking blue and will instead look black. This means the skin is completely dead and is likely not able to be saved, and it is a symptom of severe, late-stage frostbite.

If you notice this symptom in your dog, she will need immediate emergency veterinary care. This blackening of the skin—also called necrosis—may spread even if she is no longer exposed to cold temperatures, and she will need medical assistance to stop it.

FOCUSED ISSUES ON THE PAWS, TAIL, OR EARS
Frostbite in dogs most commonly occurs on the paws, ears, and tail. These are the parts of the body that are most exposed to the cold and may be more likely to become wet in cold conditions, too. The ears and tail may take some time for signs of frostbite to occur, but the paws will likely show signs right away.

Pay close attention to these parts of your dog’s body when she goes outdoors during the winter. If it is wet or snowy outside, dry her ears, paws, and tail frequently. Limit how much time your dog spends outside in the cold.

Check out these before and afters from some of my recent deshedding treatments!

There are so many positives removing that old coat, the most loved benefit; less hair in your house! 🙌🏽

Old loose hair can intertwine with their new coat that’s growing in, and what that can look like is what I call “Spider web matting”! It looks exactly how it sounds!

I am at a loss for words! Thank you so much to the person/people who have nominated me for the New Business of the Year award!

When opening my business it was definitely a scary thought! You depend on your community to support you, in hopes to become successful. After only 6 months of being officially open I was able to commit to my business full time because of our amazing little town. ❤️

I can’t thank my family and friends enough for supporting me through this journey, as well as the support from my current clients.

I absolutely love providing care for your pets, educating clients on animal welfare, and giving those an option of a space to come to who have dogs with special/medical needs.

This makes my heart so full . 💛🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who donated foam mats, as well as to everyone who was willing to donate! 🥰

We had a very happy boy come into the shop today! As you can see he is a tripod, what you can’t see is he also has some special medical needs that have to be monitored; as to why this was so important for me to provide foam matting for this appointment. Making this session as comfortable and low stress as possible for this big guy was a special priority for me!

He did AMAZING and left with a smile!

These mats will also be used for my current clients (and future clients) who are paralyzed, epileptic, hip-dysplasia, fear of flooring and any other clients that feel they would prefer it for their pet! So they will be greatly used!

Thank you so much again! 🥰🐾

Why not have a little fun on a Tuesday! I have been seeing a fun game idea on some groups I’m apart of and wanted to give it a try!

I will have 4 levels; very easy, easy, medium, and hard!

I will post a photo of a dog, with a photo next to it, the second photo will be a hint for what the dogs name is! So here is our “very easy” level!

🍂 Why groom your dog prior to the fall?

🐶 Dogs with a double coat need extra care during the transition from summer into fall. As their summer fur is shedding to make room for their winter coat, their thick undercoat and topcoat can easily get matted and tangled, making fall pet grooming particularly important.

🐾 Having your dogs coat prepared also improves their comfort during the changing season!

💛 Be sure to book your doggy in!

🐾 Another exciting achievement!

📚I had enrolled in a course that I had found went into much more depth and detail of health and anatomy of canines; parasites, zoonotic diseases, infections, identifying skin/coat disorders, pre-grooming health assessments and methods I can do to help!

⭐️ Very excited to be able to add more knowledge to help your dogs 🥰

Hi everyone!

As the summertime approaches, we are often faced with many choices in regards to keeping our furry friends comfortable in the heat! For example; shaving their fur.

In posting so I will not be shaving double coated dog breeds, I am more than happy to offer a brush out, or a deshedding treatment to lighten some of their fur! ☺️

Here’s why below!!

When I decided to start my business I wanted to also help educate clients on the health of their dogs, and provide a stress free environment! I want to stick to these morals I have, and knowing the cons involved in a full body shave of a double coated breed, I’d happily be able to provide a full body brush out, or a deshedding treatment to lighten their coat!

Dogs do not regulate temperature the same way that people do. Unlike humans, dogs do not perspire except through their paw pads. They cool themselves by panting, also known as respiration. As such, coat function for dogs is infinitely different from what we would expect.

Double coat refers to a dog with two layers of thicker coat. Northern breeds like Samoyeds Huskies, German Shepherds and more are double coated, but less commonly known is that many herding breeds and golden retrievers are also double coated, as well as many other breeds. The first layer is the undercoat which is composed of fine, fluffy hairs close to the skin. This is the part of a double coated dog that sheds. In the winter months, dogs will grow more undercoat to help insulate them and keep them warmer. What is not as well known about the undercoat is that in the summer, the undercoat is more sparse and it serves to hold up the topcoat and help trap air and cool them down. The topcoat is made up of tougher guard hairs that do not shed. They protect your dog's skin from harmful rays of sunlight and bug bites.

Hi everyone!

I have made the decision to book appointments through my Facebook business page and Instagram business page only!

I will not be responding to personal text messages, personal Facebook messages, or phone calls. I know this will be a slow adjustment as I have done all methods since I have opened my business, however it would be appreciated to book appointments only through my business pages! Please let your family and friends know if they don’t have facebook!

Thank you!

🌸 May has booked up quick!

☀️ Message to book in your pup soon as I will be booking for June quickly!

🐾 As for the size of my space, I currently am booking all my clients 1 on 1 (unless you have 2/3 dogs in your household, I never mix dogs who are unfamiliar with each other). At this time I don’t have a space to kennel dogs for the day! I book sessions at the amount of time I need to complete the service! Please be kind of other clients time, as well as mine when dropping off and picking up. It’s amazing how much can get done in just 10 minutes!

Thank you! 🥰
