�Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society (HLH) is a non-profit animal rescue founded in 2012. We are committed to rescuing stray, abandoned, and unwanted dogs and cats from Alberta urban and rural areas, including First Nations surrounding Edmonton and Red Deer, to then place them in permanent homes. HLH created a spay/neuter initiative program within the commu

nities we work with to help curb the overpopulation of unwanted dogs and cats. Our organization works with field volunteers in several rural communities across Alberta to rescue dogs and cats in need. Unfortunately, for every dog we save, there are at-least 10 more requiring immediate rescue, and in the case of cats, at least 30 more requiring rescue - without foster space we cannot rescue them. Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society received their Certificate of Incorporation on November 30, 2012 and became recognized as a Registered Charity. We do our best to keep our operating costs low, allowing us to assist more animals. Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society relies entirely on the generosity, skills, and compassion of a volunteer network in order to: �
Provide foster care, socialization, and basic training to prepare the foster animal for adoption
�Administer medical assistance to the foster animal
�Coordinate the adoption of the foster animal through a matching process of the animal’s needs to lifestyles and personalities of the adopters
Respond to calls for animals in need by traveling to urban and rural locations to perform rescues
�Provide food to field volunteers for the animals who cannot yet be rescued
�Prepare and delivery outreach programs and initiatives that promote responsible pet ownership
Raise funds to support HLH activities; and �
Build awareness about Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society and our cause. �

Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society does not operate out of a facility; instead, we rely on a network of foster homes who open their homes and hearts to rescued animals until a permanent home is found. Supplies such as leashes, collars, toys, dishes, food, litter, treats, and kennels are provided to our foster homes. A loving, safe and lifelong home is the goal in Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society's rehoming efforts; therefore, a multi-step adoption process is followed to ensure the best match possible between the needs of the animal and the lifestyle of the potential adopters. Many of HLH adoptable animals have been rescued from harsh situation; therefore, they are adopted out as companion animals to be loved and protected for the rest of their lives. The time we take in processing adoptions and careful vetting of each potential adoptive home is a core philosophy of our organization.

Hi!

We're Smokey and Turkey! We're a couple of boys who were born on July 31, 2024. We're good with other cats, kids and dogs.

Our mother was taken into foster care with an unknown pregnancy. We were kept with our mother and cared for by the foster until 13weeks old. We have been neutered, vaccinated and dewormed.

Smokey is the calmer one of us two but we both have our high energy kitten moments. Smokey likes to cuddle, I think I could like it with enough practice.
We're staying at this hotel called Pet Smart in Emerald Hills (Sherwood Park) if you'd like to come meet us!

As we are a bonded pair, we'd be adopted together into our furever home.

Karen is literally the best! She’s always there to transport my babies to events, or vets if I can’t make it. She’s always one of the first to sign up and volunteer her time to help out and make things run smoothly.
I always enjoy when we get to work along side, she’s very compassionate and caring and we couldn’t do this without you!!

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Karen’s dad, he’s a special human with a love of all the 4 legged friends. He’s got a very gentle demeanour and cats just seem at ease. When I first met him while giving Gin Iv fluids and he was starting to perk up, he got out his little pill bottle with cat treats in it and started hand feeding him ❤️❤️ fast forward to today, and that cat completely loves that man! - Kirsten

Karen is one of the most impressive people. It is not often that you meet someone with intelligence and skill who is also extremely kind and giving. It’s biased of me but I consider any person that can win over my dog, Dixie, to be someone that has very special character! She was completely in love with Karen..... when I would have been impressed with just tolerant. I watched her work as a nurse and she is exceptional. The volunteer work she has been providing HLH has been excellent. Karen is a fantastic soul! I’m honored to know her. I’m in awe of her . I would like to be like Karen when I grow up. - Hailey

I am in awe of Karen. This beautiful kind caring woman is so impressive to watch. From running adoption events, administering cat vaccines, and anything and everything to help out volunteers and the animals. Truly amazing! I look back and laugh at myself starting to explain vaccines and finding out she’s in medical and knew more about the vials than myself I’m sure.
I always love my time with Karen and appreciate all her help.
I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Karen’s dad personally but what I’ve heard about him tells me he’s a pretty special man with a big heart for his cats. Seeing pictures or videos of him and the cats makes my heart happy - Ashley

Karen always saves the day!! I literally said those words just last week. She is one of the first people I met through the rescue, and honestly such a gem! She has been there for me and my fosters time and time again. She always shows up with a smile, even after driving across the whole city, after she’s just worked 12 hours on her feet! She has such a genuine kindness about her, paired with a warm, caring, disposition. The animals sense it too, and I’ve witnessed a foster fall in love with her, and melt into her hands purring, despite that he was so sick.
At the same time, Karyn is also hilarious, quick witted, and remarkably strong. Not to mention, she’s an absolute pro at what she does. Karen truly balances all of these qualities somehow, and has a knack for both finding the silver lining, and always knowing the right things to say. She contributes so selflessly, and I’m so grateful to learn from her, laugh with her, and call her a friend. We should all be like Karen🖤 - Jaci

She is one of the first volunteers to put up her hand & open up her heart to anything rescue. Last hockey season she drove down to Red Deer and helped sell 50/50 tickets at the Blackfalds Bulldog’s fundraiser without even blinking an eye about the travel. She not only sold them but was a rockstar doing it!! She definitely out sold the rest of us and I kept saying you should take a break lol
Would she ? Nope she just kept on trucking with a smile on her face. We are so lucky to have Karen on the team and I personally hope I’ll see her smiling face at every event I can attend for many years to come. ~ jolene

Description;
Turkey is a beautiful, multi-colored 13wk old female. She is a sweet, rambunctious kitten who loves to play…especially with her brothers. Turkey is also very good at letting you know when she wants or needs something. Over the last few months, it has become very clear to us how intelligent she is. As soon as she was good on her feet, she’d constantly finds ways to escape her little enclosure so that she could go exploring. She loves to sit and cuddle and will instantly start purring in your arms. This extremely lovable little kitten is looking to be adopted with her brother and go to her forever home.

Smokey is an amazing black and grey 13wk old male. He is one of the sweetest little kitties you’ll ever meet. One thing that makes Smokey so special is how calm he has been right from the start. Growing up, he was always the most cuddly and relaxed kitten. Being a kitten, he also loves to go a little crazy, let out his wild side and play with his sister. At any moment, Smokey will come to you, look you in the eyes and just sit so he can be with you. He loves to come for snuggles and kisses any time of the day.

History: Marvin was found outside and brought into care 2024. Augustus was brought in during a cold snap in October 2023.

Description: Augustus and Marvin are the best of friends. They often play and sleep together. Auggie is the more chatty of the two (he meows to greet you as well as let you know when it's breakfast!) while Marvin has only ever made "pigeon like" coos. They are shy at first, but love attention once they're comfortable. Augustus is always the first to greet you in the morning, Marvin prefers to sleep in. They are both really good with other cats and play well with kids.

Charlie, age unknown. I was told he was 2-4 when we got him, I’ve been lucky to have him 10yrs. He’s an amazing boy, good with all people, good with other dogs, as long as the other dog isn’t trying to eat him let’s say.. I believe that to be his age though, as a younger dog he was in it as thick as thieves so to speak playing. He’s a people pleaser and compassionate animal. Heart of gold isn’t even the right words to describe his temperament. He does have a gluten allergy and I keep him on a gluten free beef and veg diet as fish and chicken and pork exasperate his yeast infections in his one ear… carrots and ice cubes are his main treats.

Casey, she’s 8. She’s an independent dog, very much has her own personality. She is a loving dog though and she’s great with kids and people once she’s met you and she sees she’s safe, no biting or aggression she just wants you to know who’s dog she is! Shes a softy at heart and she’s an absolute sweetheart. They love their walks and their swimming time etc, she loves her couches! She’s been a couch dog her whole life so having that ability to roam free in a home is essential for her 😉 she’s been spoiled yes! Charlie.. he prefers the floor and I believe that’s from before I had him etc. he’s been invited on furniture but he chooses the floor over it for some reason lol. Casey doesn’t have any issues w food and is a little garbage truck 😉. Carrots.. all the carrots is her favourite thing in the world. Casey is white and copper and Charlie black and white, I will make them available for FaceTime and in person visits as well should someone want to come meet and greet etc. anything I can do to ensure a welcome and safe living home that will be a secure home till they pass in the goal. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out as I’m an open book and I want only what is best for their success in life.

Twelve tiny lives. Twelve innocent, hopeful little hearts were saved from a heartbreaking, unimaginable situation. These sweet puppies have already endured more than any animal ever should, but today, they’re safe, warm, and finally discovering what love feels like.

Thank you to our amazing volunteers, foster homes, and of course our supporters, these pups are thriving. Their resilience is incredible, and their little spirits are shining brighter every day. Soon, they’ll be ready to bring love and joy to their forever families.

Plse note the remaining puppies have been braught into care with another rescue, no lives were left behind.

We have partnered with the Feral Cat Network Foundation of Alberta to help Sir Pooften hopefully find his forever home.
This amazing rescue pulls “feral” cats off the euthanasia list from animal control in their area because they know many of them are friendly cats just like Sir here who just need kind humans to show them a little compassion and love. Once Sir knew he was safe, he showed how silly, lovable, and sweet he is to everyone.

Looking for someone who is selling, or willing to donate, straw bales. Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society is looking to build cold weather shelters for homeless/ abandoned animals. Some of our rescuers have already come across vulnerable ones who have succumbed to the weather 💔
We are also accepting donations of Rubbermaid tubs/totes, insulation, plywood and other building materials.

Who remembers our beautiful Quinn that was posted awhile back? She came into care with four babies who all went to separate homes and most have been adopted. Quinn’s life before coming in is not 100% known but what we do know is she was not treated very kindly. We were told that she was a stray that ended up on a property and her & her babies were not welcome. If we didn’t take her we were told they would “get rid “ of her. Quinn is very shy & timid but her foster mom can see the longing for love she has in her eyes. She wants to trust so very badly , and with the help of our team we will make sure Quinn finds a family that will love her beyond measure. She’s progressing every day … we will get her there 🐾❤️

How adorable is this little family?! 😻 Meet Tilly, Tater Tot, Tom and their sweet momma Pearl! ❤️ Momma cat Pearl loves humans and is very trusting. She’s confident and independent. She likes to explore! She’s great mom, very gentle and attentive. She likes head scratches, rubs and she likes to see what is happening around her. She is okay with her foster parents dog - she is fine with him being in the room and sniffing the kittens but she does not like when he approaches and she is not with the kittens. She does not like her foster parents cat - she will hiss and growl even when he is at a distance, she will chase him if he is too close to her. She would likely do best in a home where she is the only pet. She would likely tolerate a dog, but she is not loving cats so far. We will see how time goes! Tom is the grey tabby. He’s very vocal and likes to have little chats, he is the biggest of the three, he loves to wrestle with his siblings and cuddle with his mom! Tater Tot is the little white tabby. He loves naps. He is very sweet and gentle, goes with the flow, likes to play when he isn't napping! Tilly is the little brown tabby. She is the smallest of the three but often the bravest. She likes exploring and wrestling with her brothers! We Rescued 19 Puppies!

Hi, I'm Chevy!!! I'm a 2 year old boy who loves being a puppy. I'm a big boy weighing in at 83lbs and very much still growing. I have herding/working breeds in me so being on an acreage with a job would be perfect for me. I am also very affectionate and love being inside, snuggled up to humans. I would love to be in an active home with a strong leader. I have high energy and can be hard headed, I can get bored easily because I just want to herd everything; humans, dogs, bikes! I've been diligently working on my leash manners and my recall has come leaps and bounds, but still requires work. I love to run and could do it for hours and hours, it's pretty much my favorite thing! My foster family keeps me pretty busy by spending a lot of time hiking and camping. I like other dogs! I also have a bit of separation anxiety. I would benefit from having another dog in my furever home. Hi! We're Thelma and Louise! We are sisters who have come such a long way since being brought into foster care. I, Louise, love to be petted. I'll sit on your lap, purring loudly while making biscuits. It has become one of my favorite things. Thelma is a bit shy so I'll give you her info. She is slowly getting closer to people by watching and learning from me. Neither one of us are keen on being picked up or held, but maybe in the future. We are social, playful, curious and loving. We are also HIGHLY motivated by food and toys.. but, mostly food.
