Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society

Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society is an Alberta based, non-profit Animal Rescue Society

"We are the voice for the voiceless."
Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society (HLH) is a non-profit animal rescue founded in 2012. We are committed to rescuing stray, abandoned, and unwanted dogs and cats from Alberta urban and rural areas, including First Nations surrounding Edmonton and Red Deer, to then place them in permanent homes. HLH created a spay/neuter initiative program within the commu

nities we work with to help curb the overpopulation of unwanted dogs and cats. Our organization works with field volunteers in several rural communities across Alberta to rescue dogs and cats in need. Unfortunately, for every dog we save, there are at-least 10 more requiring immediate rescue, and in the case of cats, at least 30 more requiring rescue - without foster space we cannot rescue them. Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society received their Certificate of Incorporation on November 30, 2012 and became recognized as a Registered Charity. We do our best to keep our operating costs low, allowing us to assist more animals. Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society relies entirely on the generosity, skills, and compassion of a volunteer network in order to:
Provide foster care, socialization, and basic training to prepare the foster animal for adoption
Administer medical assistance to the foster animal
Coordinate the adoption of the foster animal through a matching process of the animal’s needs to lifestyles and personalities of the adopters
Respond to calls for animals in need by traveling to urban and rural locations to perform rescues
Provide food to field volunteers for the animals who cannot yet be rescued
Prepare and delivery outreach programs and initiatives that promote responsible pet ownership
Raise funds to support HLH activities; and
Build awareness about Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society and our cause.

Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society does not operate out of a facility; instead, we rely on a network of foster homes who open their homes and hearts to rescued animals until a permanent home is found. Supplies such as leashes, collars, toys, dishes, food, litter, treats, and kennels are provided to our foster homes. A loving, safe and lifelong home is the goal in Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society's rehoming efforts; therefore, a multi-step adoption process is followed to ensure the best match possible between the needs of the animal and the lifestyle of the potential adopters. Many of HLH adoptable animals have been rescued from harsh situation; therefore, they are adopted out as companion animals to be loved and protected for the rest of their lives. The time we take in processing adoptions and careful vetting of each potential adoptive home is a core philosophy of our organization.

Bunny
Date of Birth: September 17, 2023
S*x: Spayed Female
Breed/Color: Maine C**n x Manx, gray and tan tabby
Medical Note: Clinically blind

Good with Cats: Yes, with very slow and supportive introductions. If North is still available for adoption, the two are already introduced and make a wonderful bonded pair.
Good with Dogs: Yes, with calm, quiet, cat-savvy dogs and slow, supportive introductions. Bunny does well with dogs that respect her space.
Good with Children: Yes, older children are best—those who can respect her boundaries and understand how to approach her gently. Since she can be startled by sudden movements or noises due to her blindness, she prefers not to be picked up.
Activity Level: Low. Bunny is a quiet girl who mostly keeps to herself. She sticks close to her safe space and prefers calm, familiar areas.
Location: Edmonton

History:
Bunny came into care in November 2023 from a severe neglect and abuse situation. Since then, she’s been slowly learning how to be a cat and adjust to the world around her. With time, patience, and love, she has grown into the sweetest, most affectionate blind kitty.

Description:
Bunny is a resilient and joyful cat who walks with her head held high and eyes bright—even though she cannot see. While she may be able to perceive some shadows or shapes, there’s no guarantee of what exactly she can see—but that doesn’t dampen her spirit one bit!

She’s an affectionate cuddle bug who loves lap time, head scritches, and gentle pets. She’ll snuggle up with you in the mornings and evenings and might even curl up with the dog on their bed, just like she does at her foster home.

Bunny is content basking in sunbeams or quietly exploring her surroundings. She’s incredibly smart—she knows her name and will often come toward your voice in a zigzagging little trot, nose lifted high, until she finds you and happily climbs up for attention. She’s excellent with the litter box and quickly learns where her food and water are once shown.

Bunny needs a patient, understanding home that’s willing to give her the extended adjustment time she may need. Transitions can be loud and overwhelming for her, and she’s not shy about voicing her opinions—but with support, she adapts beautifully.

Please reach out for more info if you’re interested in adopting this special girl.

About North
North is a sweet and loving cat who enjoys being around her humans. She loves to cuddle, follow you around the house, and soak up the sun in a cozy spot. She has a caring and protective nature, making her a wonderful companion. North has adjusted well to home life and is looking for her forever family.

Personality & Behavior
● Cats: Good with other cats but needs a slow introduction. She’s protective of her space and will set boundaries with polite but firm warnings.
● Dogs: Good with calm, cat-friendly dogs. She may swat if a dog gets too pushy but mostly avoids conflict.
● Children: Great with kids, including babies! She’s gentle, cuddly, and even protective of little ones.
● Activity Level: Medium – she enjoys following you around, lounging in sunny spots, snuggling under blankets, and playing with toys.

Her Story
North was abandoned and thankfully found and rescued. Pregnant and left to fend for herself, she relied on a kind rescuer who provided food and shelter. Once her pregnancy was discovered, she was taken in by a foster where she gave birth to four kittens. Now, it's North’s turn to find a forever family who will love and care for her as she deserves.

Why You’ll Love Her
North is affectionate, empathetic, and protective. She’ll be there to comfort you when you’re upset, snuggle with you at night, and even keep you company during bathroom breaks! She’s a loving shadow who enjoys attention but also respects your space. Her gentle and caring nature makes her a truly special companion.

Adoption Details
● Indoor Only: North must remain an indoor cat. She’s curious about the outdoors but doesn’t try to escape unless an open door is left unattended.
● Slow Introductions: If you have other pets, a patient and supportive introduction is key.
● Loving & Committed Home: North is looking for a forever family that will provide her with the love and security she deserves.
If North sounds like the perfect addition to your home, reach out to arrange a meet-and-greet! 💕

Names: Slash & Spike
DOB: August 15, 2024
S*x: Male (Slash) & Female (Spike)
Breed/Color: Domestic Medium Hair, Black and White
Good with Cats: Yes
Good with Dogs: Young enough to learn
Good with Children: Best with kids who understand boundaries
Location: Edmonton
Bonded Pair – Must Be Adopted Together

Their Story:

Born to a stray mama cat who was tragically lost to a car accident, Slash and Spike were rescued along with their siblings (Kasha, Pippi, and Short Sox) by a kindhearted couple. Though their early life was tough, these two have come a long way in the safety and comfort of their foster home. Together, they’ve been learning how to trust, play, and embrace the good life indoors.

Meet Slash:

Slash is the “cool cat” of the duo—a striking tuxedo kitten with classic black-and-white markings and a sleek white collar that adds to his rockstar charm. Inspired by the legendary guitarist, Slash carries himself with quiet charisma. He can be a little shy at first, especially around quick movements, but he quickly comes out of his shell with a wand toy or a tasty treat. Once he’s comfortable, his playful, affectionate side shines bright.

Meet Spike:

Spike is the thinker of the pair. A cautious but curious girl, she’s often the first to investigate a new toy—but on her own terms. She may greet new situations with a hiss, but it’s all bark and no bite. She’s not aggressive, just wary—and extremely clever. Her favorite game is “What’s in there, and how do I get it out?” Spike is a little problem-solver who loves exploring and figuring things out. Though still getting used to human affection, she’s starting to accept gentle pets during quiet, safe moments.

Why Two is Better Than One:

Together, Slash and Spike balance each other beautifully. Slash brings a playful confidence that helps Spike feel more secure, and Spike’s calm, inquisitive nature grounds her brother’s energetic side. They snuggle, play, and explore as a team, and they’re often found curled up together after a busy day of kitten antics.

Ideal Home:

Slash and Spike are looking for a quiet, patient home with adopters who will let them adjust at their own pace. They’d thrive in a calm environment with respectful older children and could potentially adjust to cat-savvy dogs. Their future family should enjoy watching shy kittens grow into confident, loving companions—and be ready for plenty of playtime along the way.

If you’ve got room in your heart and home for a thoughtful girl and her rockstar brother, Slash and Spike are ready to steal the show—and your heart.

Is it the Easter Bunny ?!?! No it’s our sweet Kaida showing off her adorable ears!! Kaida along with the HLH family are dropping in to wish all of our supporters a very happy Easter ❤️

Kaida is still looking for her forever home 🐾
She’s approx 6 months old & only about 35lbs
She’s has some growing still to do but we don’t believe she’ll be a large girl when grown.
She’s as sweet as chocolate and has ears for dayz

If you’re interested in knowing more about her, have a look at her profile on our website hopeliveshererescue.com

Our dog adoption coordinator met her on Friday and fell completely in love. Her profile says she’s a bit shy at first ( which is what her foster home has seen a bit in her )
It took her less than two minutes to be all over our coordinator giving her kisses and rolling over for belly rubs 🐾

FOSTER NEEDED – Help Shadow Start Her New Life
Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Shadow was on the brink of death when a Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue volunteer found her—starving, alone, and struggling to survive near Yellowhead & Winterburn Rd. Thankfully, she was brought in just before a cold snap she likely wouldn’t have survived.

Now that she’s been cleared by a vet and is gaining weight, this sweet 1-year-old girl needs a foster home where she can finally experience the comfort and care she deserves.

Shadow’s Profile:
• Age: ~1 year
• Breed: Domestic Short Hair
• Gender: Female
• Good with Dogs: Unknown
• Good with Cats: Possible with proper introductions
• Good with Kids: Unknown
• Activity Level: Medium

Why she needs a new foster:
Her current temporary foster has an immunocompromised cat, and Shadow can’t interact with him yet as she has just received her first vaccinations due to her recent malnourishment. She’s been living in a single bedroom, but she’s ready for more space, love, and attention.

About Shadow:
Shadow is a total sweetheart who loves to be near you and soak up all the pets. After experiencing severe food scarcity, she’s very food-motivated and doesn’t miss a meal. She’s playful, curious, and has a knack for quickly destroying her toys—in the most adorable way.

She’s not just looking for a foster—she’s looking for a chance to thrive.

If you can open your heart and home to foster Shadow, even temporarily, you’ll be helping a survivor finally start her second chance.
All supplies and support provided by Hope Lives Here.

Please reach out today—Shadow’s ready to stretch out, play, and feel loved.
