IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR! The Holiday Hodge Podge class list has officially dropped! We started this tradition 3 year ago as a way of making our seminars available to people on a standalone basis during the chaotic month of December. Each class is $50 or take all 6 for $200. This is a fantastic way to find out what you and your dog love doing together and learning about the wide world of dog related activities. Classes are all held in town and indoors, so warmth and light won't be an issue.
We also have all the details for our Christmas Party and would love to see you all stop by! To register or for any other questions shoot me a message!

A while back we took in an injured cat, got her healed up and I was hoping to spay and rehome her.
Surprise! She gave us a 4 for 1 deal and had these babies about 3 weeks ago. My hopes are to foster these babies plus mom long enough to get them all fixed.

Good afternoon everyone,
I wanted to personally reach out to anyone who may be affected before making this post,

It has been brought to my attention that a dog that was in the salon august 29th, has had lice found on them a couple weeks later.
Dog lice is a current problem in Alberta.
While it is hard to pinpoint where exactly point of contact was I wanted to make a reminder that prevention is very important, especially if your dog goes to groomers, parks, hikes, doggy daycare or is around other animals.
That being said, if you notice lice or fleas, reach out to your vet for treatment, and clean all soft surfaces with hot water multiple times over the next few weeks, along side any areas and toys the dog spends time with.
I will be sharing a follow up post made by another groomer in the community, it is knowledgeable and I recommend taking a look at it.

I have always been and always will be confident in my cleaning protocols between clients and after the day is done, but the best protection starts at home.
If a pet is found with lice or fleas during an appointment I do require that they be picked up as to limit contamination to other pets.
The shop is then closed for deep clean.
As far as I know this is an isolated issue, but if anyone has questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to message or call me and I will help you in any way that I can.

Does your pet have coat and skin issues?
One of the best places to start fixing those issues, is with their diet!
Diets rich with protein, vitamins and minerals, omega fatty acids etc are super important for coat and skin health!
There’s lots you can add to your already existing diet to help!
Most pet stores carry additives like salmon oil, bone broth, quail eggs, spirulina, goats milk, organs etc.

Here’s some snacks that your dog might enjoy, and are super healthy. Just remember moderation is key.

Hey there friends!
Today I wanted to talk to you about shaving double coated breeds.
In my salon this is a last resort option. Or if it’s medically necessary.
Shaving double coated dogs, can be a no for many reasons and I just want to give an insight on to why many groomers will give this answer.
Such as
- it can lead to skin issues, and even make them shed more
-it can damage the outer coat, and take 2-3 years to grow properly again. In this time, if the undercoat isn’t taken care of daily, the coat can mat more easily resulting in needed to be shaved again.

-Double coats provide a layer of protection against the external environment for the dog. Shaving it away removes that protective layer, resulting in insufficient protection from temperature, parasites, sun damage, and wind (yes your dog can get a sunburn)

-it doesn’t make them cooler. There are muscles in the dog's skin that help raise guard hairs (the harsher outer coat of a double coated breed,) and allow for the heat to dissipate off the dog's skin. When that hair is removed it changes the way air flows over the dog's skin. This can make a dog hotter.

Thursday food for thought!
Many of us enjoy taking our pups for walks in the summer, but be mindful that pavement can get hot!
On hot sunny days, opt to walk your dog in grassy or shaded areas, throw on some booties or pad covers, or try a barrier cream.
There’s lots of tips and tricks to protect your pups paws 🐾
